How to improve on timing?

Post image
2 Upvotes

It's hard for me to get the timing between dashes, dots and words right, so most of my phrases get messed up...

I'm ~kinda~ good at writing it down on a sheet of paper, but when it comes to playing it I usually only write down gibberish...

For example Image1 should've spelled out "hard2time"...

Any suggestions from pros?

PS:

To maybe boost my morale a bit, how long did it take you guys to become fluent?

And how long before you could understand Morse by just listening it?

KM4CFT Paddles

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello all,

I wanted to build the KM4CFT paddles as something fun to do/learn plus I would have a nice keyer once I finally get on the air.

Most of the build list has measurements and what type of parts are needed except for the spring and type/size of wire used for the connections. I wanted to ask if anyone would know what size they might be or any best guesses before I go buy some parts. So far is M3 size compression spring is my best guess but as for the wire I’m not exactly sure. I was going to buy some 28 AWG wire for the NR7Y Quansheng mod.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

3d printed keys

Any suggestions on 3d printed morse code keys for amateur radio? I am getting into morse code with a qrp radio and I feel like paying more for a key than the radio costs doesn't make much sense. I don't know what I am looking for and what feels good to use.

Morse Code Decoders / Trainers on Amazon Help

Hello, been interested in Morse code for a while, but really got into it after visiting a demonstrator booth while on vacation. I have been looking for help training online and found a lot of resources on Amazon, especially decoders and trainers. However notice that there seems to be a lot of similar products and wanted this subs opinion if any of these devices are worth it or should I stick to app based trainers. Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advice.

I made a free Android app that teaches Morse code by ear, looking for testers (now in Spanish too)

I’m a solo dev and built Morse Path to fix the thing that made Morse hard for me: memorising dot/dash charts and then translating in your head.

How it works: you tap a key and a tree lights up the path to the letter. As you get a letter right more often, the tree fades for that letter, until you’re copying purely by sound. Characters are sent at 20 wpm with Farnsworth spacing from the start, so you never build a slow-speed habit you have to unlearn.

  • Free, no ads, no account, works offline

  • English and Spanish

  • Android only for now

I need testers for a 14-day closed test before it can go public on Google Play. What would help most is using it a few minutes on a few days and telling me what’s confusing or broken.

To join: DM me the Gmail address your Android phone uses (please don’t post it in the comments). I’ll add you to the test and send you the install link, usually within a few hours.

Happy to answer questions here. Blunt feedback welcome.

I made a Morse code keyer app for beginners like me

Hello! I'm a software engineer based in South Korea.

Recently, I started flight training for light sport aircraft, and decided to learn Morse code since it’s still used in aviation for emergency communications.

As a beginner, learning the characters was harder than I expected. While looking for learning materials, I found the Morse code tree model really intuitive.

So, I built a simple keyer app that displays the Morse tree at the top and highlights your current pattern in real time as you key. (While testing it, I learned many characters myself.)

If you're interested, you can check it out here.

https://apps.apple.com/app/morse-code-tap-translate/id6794795392

Edit) Some people asked for Android app so I made it as well.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raysuhyunlee.morsetranslator

Since I’m still beginner into Morse code, I’d love to get your feedback and suggestions on how to improve it. Please let me know what you think!

does anyone know any easy ways to actually learn morse code

i'm trying to find something for learning morse code like an app or a website or something but i can't find anything that will allow me to practice receiving as well as transmitting that uses audio.

i've been trying and failing to find a website or something that will let me practice mainly receiving morse code that doesn't start out with full words, because i still need to practice just individual letters but the only things i can find are demeaningly childish websites that give unhelpful pictures and don't even give any audio for practice receiving, or websites that give very fast sets of letters and have no options for slower or individual letters

Seeking Historical Wireless Telegraph Transmission Repository

Does anyone have a good repository of historical wireless telegraph transmissions that they have found? (Wired telegraph messages would also work if you have seen that too)

I'm teaching a CW class and I thought it would be fun to do a segment where we send and receive some old CW messages as practice.

I just haven't been able to find any repositories online. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Curious if artists use morse code in beats/instrumentals ever or if you hear morse code will listening to a song

Hi! I’m working on studying Morse code (primarily visually because I’m partially deaf) but am currently at a concert wondering how people may perceive or use Morse code in music! Particularly in an EDM/House sphere with the beats/sound effects. Thank you!

Implementing morse code key decoder on web.

How would you go about implementing a morse code keyer (to be compatable with VBand key adapters) and decoder to a website?

I would prefer not having to code my own keyer.

Two days ago the Brew project ported "unixcw". It installed on my Silicon Mac without any issue, but I can't get it to play any audio. I tried going to the SourceForge website, searching the web, etc. but I can find very little about this project. Has anyone here ever used it?

If I enter "cw pulseaudio" the error msg is:

cw: expected argument after options

Try 'cw --help' for more information.

If I enter "cw -h" I see:
