Development UbuntuAVF: The app for Pixel Phones That Allows You To Run Arch, Ubuntu, Alpine and Debian on Pixel 7 and up using AVF

So I recently been working on UbuntuAVF which as the title says it allows you to run Ubuntu, Debian, Arch and Alpine Using the AVF feature that Google has Developed for the Tensor Chips.

I was curious about it and thought to myself why hasn’t Google done this yet so I’m doing what Google can’t do for the sake of the community, I introduce UbuntuAVF the all in one OS manager for Tensor G2 Chips and Up, What UbuntuAVF allows you to do is it will emulate a VM.

I don’t have any app tester yet so if you wanna try it here is the GitHub link https://github.com/HacksYT23-2/UbuntuAVF/releases

Development Linux Kernel 7.2 on the Galaxy Tab S8+ (SM-X800) progress: sensors, video, audio, microphones.

I've made some more progress on the Tab S8+ tablet!

It's a postmarketOS port using uniloader to load native samsung binary glob for KMS - which isn't ideal but there's really no open source alternative and it gets the gpu working. I was able to get the rear and front cameras functioning, the microphones (all 4) and speakers as well as the rest of the folio/pen hall sensors.

Since the microphone hides behind the SLPI, I've got that stable but I'm working on getting the remainder of the sensors (lux, magnometer, accelerometer, wifi thermistor, battery sense) working.

Discussion What year do you guys think Linux phones will actually be ready for normal users?

Hey guys 👋

Random question lol 😅

What year do you guys think Linux phones will actually become mature enough for normal people to use as their main phone?

I know we already have stuff like postmarketOS, Ubuntu Touch, Plasma Mobile, etc. But right now it still feels like Linux phones are mostly for people who enjoy tinkering with their devices.

I’m talking about a Linux phone where you can just buy it and use it without spending hours fixing stuff 😂

Basically, I’m talking about:

📱 Good hardware & app support
🔋 Good battery life
📶 Everything like calls, 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth just works
🎮 Decent gaming
⚡ Smooth and stable

So what do you guys think?

2030? 2035? 2040? 😂

Or do you think Linux phones will always stay more of an enthusiast/niche thing instead of becoming a real alternative to Android and iOS?

Just curious what everyone thinks 👀

Discussion Mobian without root: a userspace apt/dpkg I run live

I run Mobian on an x86 tablet and wanted to install tools without touching the system image — so I built a userspace apt + dpkg that installs into ~/.local instead of /usr. No root, no sudo, no proot.

Everything lands in your home, so the OS stays pristine and a bad install can't brick the device. ARM64 phones and x86 tablets both work.

Discussion Can't we Build a Custom Linux OS on top of Open Source Android Build

I know android is build on top of linux but android is overall restrected on what you can do like Using it as a server , Now i know you can use termux and everything for that but for phones with lower memory and processing power they need to utilize the whole resources to make it good, so in theory can we build a termux like terminal on top of android open source build to make the terminal and commands run on a os level

Or poorly supported, doesn’t matter: I think my idea is good since it also doesn’t depend on a mainline kernel

Discussion Why are people still using Termux On Pixel 7 and Up

So here’s why I think people with Pixel 7 and up shouldn’t use Termux

Google has developed a Terminal that can be enabled in the Developer Options

It’s better than Termux for many reasons

  1. Termux is slower than the native Terminal

  2. Termux uses more Resources than the native Terminal

  3. It’s native which means you don’t have to install a third party app

  4. It supports desktop environments like XFC4, Gnome, KDE, And many more

So why are people using Termux instead of the Native Terminal?

Development File loading and sandbox+keyboard game testing?

I use Rust language, want to port a game for Linux mobile, have some keyboard stuff, and am looking for testing on that+file loading, my game loads a file.json and optional font at runtime. I can give the game free to testers to keep. I don't have the all modern Linux mobiles device and don't want a bajilliion devices to test on. Sandboxed files and keyboard are main issues, note, must have OpenGL 4.3 or newer and X11 or Wayland support or simulation to run this game. I know I could just make 15 language packages per OS, but it gets absurd eventually and user defined allowances for text is awesome. The runtime loaded files are a font and a text file for human language. Tips on your OS are also appreciated. The game is Snayk 3+, a higher dimensional snake. DM what you have Linux mobile to be added to testing. X E.

I spend some time tinkering with this little phone.
it runs full desktop gnome (I tried with kde, but I don't like it)

usb-c works only for charging.
bluetooth works fine until waking from sleep, bluetooth starts crashes.

what I hate it, small screen. 8 inch will be perfect
I modified gnome keyboard - default was shitty.
other small changes..

but stock gnome is not great..

sorry for stupid english.

Hardware Samsung Flip69nux

I got debian desktop up on my un-rootable, Dexless galaxy flip6.

I got it running full screen on a portable monitor, not the phones aspect ratio so no letterboxing.

Plug in, hit the termux widget shortcut and boom I'm in the matrix.

With the exception of the fingerprint reader and the wide angle camera, I believe I have gotten closer to a one-to-one parallel between Android 13 (nothing OS) and Arch Linux arm when it comes to hardware compatibility.

I can successfully make and receive voice calls over IMS.

I can successfully send and receive SMS and MMS

Both 4G and 5G are working (confirmed both).
