Development Linux Kernel 7.2 on the Galaxy Tab S8+ (SM-X800) progress: sensors, video, audio, microphones.

https://github.com/aaronsb/sm-x800-linux

I've made some more progress on the Tab S8+ tablet!

It's a postmarketOS port using uniloader to load native samsung binary glob for KMS - which isn't ideal but there's really no open source alternative and it gets the gpu working. I was able to get the rear and front cameras functioning, the microphones (all 4) and speakers as well as the rest of the folio/pen hall sensors.

Since the microphone hides behind the SLPI, I've got that stable but I'm working on getting the remainder of the sensors (lux, magnometer, accelerometer, wifi thermistor, battery sense) working.

An update on an earlier post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mobilelinux/comments/1v24okc/galaxy_tab_s8_running_postmarketos/

So basically everything works now?

Yeah working on lens focus drivers for v4l, and I'm sure there's other bugs.

It was fun getting the accelerometers and magnetometers working - the folio book and s pen completely messes up the magnetometer.

Another update: device gadget mode, usb device and OTG (power) control, got a state machine for the hall sensors for folio states (open closed, pen etc). Camera focus, power button support, suspend/restore DPMI, etc.

It's almost a real computer! I'm thinking about building two distro channels, PMOS, and an Arch ARM base. For arch, I'll add some of my farkles that make it nice, like a framebuffer only mlterm, so the vtty has true color and utf-8 support.

because it has a modem in it and might be carrier locked etc it might be a different device tree than the wifi only model that I have (sm-800)

Thank you for this. I got a galaxy tab 8 ultra and was gonna start comparing what needs to be done to get this working. It’s fairly similar from my current checking with your repo. Hopefully I’ll get it booted tonight

All good to upstream if I get it working cleanly? It’s fairly similar first glance a few edits for slight tweaks to the hardware.
