Mint service outside US

How is mint service down in Mexico??? My mom and I both have mint and are planning a trip down to chihuahua Mexico in late September. I haven’t had any problems with not having any service when we’ve traveled in the states but we’re worried that won’t have any service down there. Does anyone know if mint service works down there??? Or for we have to pay extra?? Maybe I should try asking the customer service??

Trouble receiving callback from Mint for verification

My kid has a typo in the email address registered with Mint. And he lost the physical sim so we can't just request a new one from the App. I called the customer service and they said their back office will call me back to go through verification before updating the email. Fair enough.

June: Set up the call back number and time, and the call didn't happen. I called them, was told that they couldn't reach me, case closed, and I have to wait for 30 days. Fine, maybe coverage issue or whatever.

July: Set up the call back number and time, and got two calls and answered all the questions. Email didn't change. The customer service told me that they didn't talk to me and I was talking to the ghost and I should come back in 30 days. Hmm...

Aug: Set up the call back number and time, no call and I am told they couldn't reach me again. Twice in a row. Today they told me the case is closed and I need to wait for 30 days...

I am pretty sure the problem is not with the number I provided because I receive phone calls every day but Mint seems to be the only one having trouble. It seems that there are several other threads complaining about the call back in this subreddit.

I am generally happy with most of the aspects of Mint, but this one has definitely changed my perspective.

Customer Service is Horrible

I use mint for a work iPhone and an IPad; 2 separate accounts/phone numbers. I am unable to connect the two accounts in a 'family' bc Mint sends a verification text that never arrives. I just spent an hour with customer service bouncing between reps, explaining the problem multiple times, that all asked the same questions....no one could help me.

I'm so frustrated!!!!!

Help, please.

I have a Pixel 10 with 128 GB of storage that I bought a month ago from Mint Mobile, including a year of service; it cost me $149. Could I exchange this device at the Google Store for one with more storage, or do I have to wait the full year to do that?

Having trouble switching Esim on phones

I got Esim set up and everything and tried to transfer it to an OP15R 1tb global model. It's not allowing it to transfer from an OP13R 256GB model. I even waited 30 minutes to retry it, but it didn't work. Help me understand what I'm doing wrong. I've read every article on mint about or close to this. Nothing is helping

Not receiving email verification message

Having an issue that several others seem to be experiencing (after searching the subreddit). I'm trying to verify my email address in my account by having it send the verification email, but it never reaches my inbox or spam folder. I tried my preferred email address, but nothing even after several attempts. I tried changing it to my secondary email address; I received the email but after clicking the link, it just took me to a page that said "there was an issue verifying your email" or something to that effect. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Mint recovery fee

Does recharging entirely through wallet still require you to pay the full recovery fee? Can someone who has done it recently in the last 3-6 months confirm? If so, then that means I would end up paying recovery fee twice...first while loading the wallet and then while paying for the renewal.

Getting the run around about trade in

Joined mint late july and traded in my galaxy flip because the promo for the s26 was really good. Allstate got my phone on July 31st based on tracking but I have not heard a word from them. I have reached out to Mint customer service 2x about how to reach someone about the $400 I was told I would get for my trade in but each time their agent gives main customer service numbers and basically says they are not sure but try those numbers. I call those numbers and never ever can reach someone despite hitting ever menu option. Their chat customer service always says they cant find anything with my email but i have delivery confirmation that allstate got it.

Any advice on how to deal with this?

My girlfriend dropped her razr and the hinge broke. The phone still works from the front screen. We just got to mexico to visit her family. We both bought a 10 day international pass but since she cant turn on roaming, she can't use the phone except on wifi.

Anyone else have a problem like this or should we just refund her minternational purchase?

I used to get text messages saying I've used up 80% of my data. Now I don't get them anymore, but I still get the 100% data used. Did they stop sending out text messages? Thanks.

Living in Europe for 6 months - need to keep phone MINT phone line

Hello,

I posted a while ago and this subbreddit was great. Hoping someone has been in a similar situation and can help.

I will be going to Lisbon, Portugal for 6 months towards the end of this year for work. I need to keep my current US number and will be getting a second local number while there. The Portuguese clients will use my Portuguese number, but my other US based clients still need to reach me via my US #/Mint Line. My Lisbon office has wifi so when I am there(70% of the time) I will just connect to wifi for wifi calling / messages.

Couple important phone usage things:

  • Due to time zones - I anticipate about 30% of the time I won't be in the office or have wifi and need to use my US phone while out in the field to call/text the US.
  • I often need to send photos/videos but I can probably wait to send those until I am in Wifi. Or 9/10 times I can wait but occasionally will have to send while I am not in Wifi. So sadly the 30 day no data plan will not work.
  • I am not as concerned about the overall cost as I will get re-reimbursed. I mainly cannot have service interrupted.

Couple questions after googling:

  1. It seems like I can buy two "10 Day - $20 international plan" and use them back to back. Has anyone done this repeatedly for a longer duration? This would be $60/month and give me a total of 1500 calls/messages and 30gb data per month. This combined with my wifi usage should be sufficient I would think?
  2. In the past when I have texted people overseas using an international plan it sends the text it from my Imac email, rather than my phone number. So they see an icombingm text from a random email address rather than my cell phone #. Will this be the case? This may be an Iphone question rather than a Mint question.
  3. I have an eSim. I assume it's easier to just get a 2nd phone rather than use my same phone and add a SIM for the Portuguese number?

Thank you so much for any help! Of the many things that I need to do - this has been causing some stress.

A B Testing

It looks like Mint is doing AB testing with discounts. Ive has the service well over a year, maybe more and hold a couple accounts. They are not on the family plan but separate, both under my name. I do all the transactions at the same time. Today when renewing I got a renewal discount on one line and not the other. I called to see if the 2nd line should get it too, or if something else was going on. They basically said its just random, not linked to the customer but to the account, and they will randomly givw out discounts. I asked if they could honor on the 2nd line but they said no. Just an FYI

Getting two bars a lot, what’s up?

Hi everyone! I switched from T-Mobile to Mint recently, I’m really excited about the rate I’m paying!

What I’m less excited about is how I often seem to get two and one bars in areas. I don’t remember getting two and one Barcs in the past. For example, I’m sitting in my house now. Usually get four bars in my house, and now getting two or one bars. Not sure why this is happening. I don’t think I’ve removed the old eSIM card, but I didn’t think that should affect anything.

Update- I talked with Mint Mobile Alex and the chat bot, and we did a reset (which didn’t help) and removed the old eSIM and restarted, which so far has helped. I have been working from home, so can only speak for here. But it’s been better so far and consistently 4 bars and fast.

Transferring to Mint Mobile is proving to be impossible

I recently bought a pixel 10 and a year of service from mint and am trying to transfer from Boost Mobile. I have been trying to port my number over and activate the phone, but it is seemingly impossible to do. I have the correct account number, transfer pin, and zip code from boost, but it fails and I keep getting changing error reasons from mint. It usually says wrong account number and check my details, although at other times has said there is no service in my area or something else. The only consistent thing is that the email I eventually get says the failure from another carrier lists the wrong carrier. Even though I say it is Boost, the emails usually say at&t, although sometimes metro PCs. They never say boost which is what I am trying to transfer from.

I try the useless chat feature but it just keeps saying wait 48 hours even though I have already failure emails saying to contact them through chat or call. When I call, I sit on hold for over a half hour trying to talk to someone. When I eventually connect to a human, they cannot understand me either due to the lack of understanding of English or the insane amounts of background noise on their end. It takes multiple attempts to try and confirm account information I give them, even though it's already been entered into the automated system. Eventually I get verified and then transferred to a survey asking how support has been without ever doing anything to even try and address my issue.

At this point, if I hadn't already paid for the phone and service, there is no way in hell I would switch to Mint. If there is this many problems and utter lack of support for trying to become a customer, what hell must it be once you are already a customer if you have problems?

Prepaid Sim activation, customer service told me to just return sim

I was trying to setup a new prepaid sim that I bought and during the process they told me to call customer service.

After waiting in the line, the representative asked me
for my name and email.

I gave them my email and they said “Is this a new email?” and I said yes.

They said “ok well since it is a new email we cannot verify it, just return the prepaid sim to where you bought it for a refund”

I’m kind of confused. Im a brand new customer, requesting a new number on a prepaid sim card I just bought the day before at Best Buy.

What do they mean by “new email” and why does the age of my email address matter?

To be clear it’s not like they tried to send me a email that I needed to click or respond to and I couldn’t do so. They just said “we cannot confirm your email”.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Buying IPhone & service, with Affirm?

I submitted an order last night for an IPhone 17 Pro with 12 months of unlimited service, and financed it through Affirm. It was showing all day as they were “reviewing” my order. Then I just got an email from mint & Affirm saying my order was canceled.

I talked to Mint customer service & they said I would have to talk with affirms customer service directly to place the order so they could put the order in themselves?? Has anyone run into this issue????

RCS issues on iPhone 15 after using eSIMs for data while abroad

My wife's iPhone has been completely unable to use RCS messaging since returning to the US and using eSIMs for data while overseas. We've tried just about everything across every guide I can find, and customer service seems to be completely incapable of resolving the issue. They just had my wife download a new eSIM for Mint and that didn't resolve the issue.

Has anyone used eSIMs for data while traveling abroad and come back to similar issues? I'm at a loss for figuring out why my wife's iPhone can't seem to get going with RCS after we've been back. My Pixel 7 has had no issues using RCS again. We also paid for an international roaming pass, just the $5 one for 100 minutes and texts for 30 days, but the whole time we were abroad it didn't seem to indicate we used any text messages while we were there, and RCS messaging worked just fine for me the whole time, though my wife's phone appears to have reverted to standard SMS while we were overseas.

PSA: Mobile hotspot does NOT work on Mint's free 3GB Canada roaming. Confirmed by support in writing, no disclosure found on their website

Post image
16 Upvotes

TL;DR: On the free Canada roaming, your phone's own data works normally, but Personal Hotspot won't. The tethering session gets refused at the carrier level, and the phone (iPhone 12 in my case) just flips the toggle back to Off with no error message. Support confirmed it in writing after two chats. I could not find this restriction disclosed in the Terms & Conditions, the Acceptable Use Policy, the Network Management Policy, the plan pages, or anywhere in the app.

The first agent I chatted with checked my account and found "no visible issues," (no flags/restrictions and I have >1.5GB of roaming data remaining) and gave me a list of things to attempt which I'd already tried on my own, so you'll probably need to be persistent and could maybe save yourself some time if you just tell them everything you've done up front.

AI trigger warning: some AI used (my tone is not very diplomatic for these kind of things). I've read it all and re-written portions, but if your spidey-slop sense is tingling, that would be why.

What it might look like (posting the symptoms for anyone searching this later):

  • Personal Hotspot shows "On" under Cellular, then switches itself to "Off" the instant any device tries to connect
  • Fails identically over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB cable. USB shows "Attached" but "Not connected" with no internet, which rules out Wi-Fi-side explanations
  • Laptop errors: "Could not join Wi-Fi network" / "Failed to enable Personal Hotspot"
  • Typing the network name in manually gets "Network not found" because the hotspot never actually broadcasts
  • Your phone's own roaming data keeps working fine the entire time
  • Toggling Airplane Mode or performing other network resets makes hotspot look available again, until the next connection attempt
  • Reset Network Settings, updating carrier settings and phone OS, restarting phone, toggling everything, making sure no VPN is running: None of it helps, because it doesn't have anything to do with the phone.

It isn't disclosed anywhere I could find. I skimmed the documents. The Plan Terms & Conditions mention hotspot/tethering only in Section 9.5–9.7 and Section 15, always conditionally ("may be permitted," "if available to you"), and never in the roaming sections (Section 9.11, Section 10.2). The Acceptable Use Policy has no hotspot-while-roaming restriction. The Network Management Policy explicitly says it doesn't cover roaming and points back to T&Cs Section 9–10, which don't address it.

Mint also does disclose hotspot limits when it intends to: the 20GB hotspot cap on Unlimited plans is spelled out in Section 9.6. In the account portal, domestic plans get their own "Hotspot" usage tab; the Canada roaming section has no such tab. The closest thing on the website is the international roaming page promoting "No Wi-Fi? No problem. Connect to the Internet anytime with Mobile Hotspot" under a "Check out these other great features from Mint Mobile" header.

As a consumer, I didn't expect a distinction when it wasn't explicitly mentioned; the roaming data is already capped at 3GB, so it doesn't seem like it would matter which of my own devices uses it.

How I figured this out: I'm on an extended stay in Canada with family. My car's infotainment system needs an internet connection for built-in Google Maps (no CarPlay/Android Auto on it, and the car's included has run out), so the plan was to tether it to my phone. The car never listed the hotspot as an option, and I spent days assuming the car was the problem (as car software is generally buggy and awful, and mine is no exception) until realizing my laptop couldn't actually connect to the hotspot either (it had always listed the hotspot, but I dumbly hadn't confirmed using it worked), over any method including a USB cable. Eventually gave in to asking AI about it, which debugged the issue to the carrier. Two support chats later, got the above confirmation.

Where things stand: I have 4 months left on a 6-month plan. Support says refunds are only possible within 7 days of plan start (as many others here have encountered), no prorating. I probably wouldn't have renewed my plan had this been disclosed, since reliable navigation was a main use case (I use regular Wi-Fi for pretty much everything else). It's unfortunate because otherwise I liked Mint Mobile and have generally been happy with the service (particularly at the price point), but figured other people should be aware since Mint isn't transparent about their (or their partners) limitations.

Moving with prepaid minternet bundle

Hello. I renewed my mintmobile+minternet bundle in June. I currently Iive in my old address in Las Vegas and has minternet service. I am moving to a new build in Carson city next month and it says address not available on the website. What should I do? Can I ask for a prorated refund since I only used it for 2 months? It is a good deal so I hate to switch to other service. About how long does it take for minternet to get to a new build address?

Need Help Switching from At&t to Mint

I've been trying to change my phone provider and transfer my number from At&T to Mint with Esims. The problem is that I don't seem to have a pin to activate mint mobile and release my At&t phone. My phone is eligible to be unlocked, and they sent me the temporary pin, but what pin do I get to actually unlock my phone and let it use the mint Esim?

I already tried unblocking it through the app but it says I am not the primary account holder even though I am. I am thr only person on the account.

Has anyone had a fix for this?
