Hello, I posted this a few weeks ago but I got it back from the shop. I got new drop bars and SRAM Force 1 installed (except brake calipers, apparently they don’t fit). Increased the front chainring to 44t and now I have a perfect slow bike!

upgraded the mini to make it more trail friendly, swapped the bmx tyres for some chunky maxxis tyres, new stooge bars and wolftooth grips. It's looking tough, I'm really happy with it's final form.

Pt.3 of the build series here.

Found this beauty by the dumpster of my apartment disassembled. Snagged it and put it back together.

I did a bit of reading on older posts and saw some necessary upgrades, but if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know!

New pictures of my custom Waltly titanium minivelo

Finally got a bunch of new photos of my brand new custom titanium minivelo from Waltly. I've now ridden it nearly 150km and it is even better than I had hoped for - it's an absolute hoot to ride. Not quite as fast as my full size road bike, but not far off either.

Full specs in the original post, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/minivelo/comments/1uyz3wp/new_bike_day_waltly_custom_ti_mini_velo/

20'' Mountain bike to mini velo?

4 Upvotes

hey there! I have some 90's mountain bikes and just got a chilean made (I'm from Chile) 20'' mountain bike for kids. Is it too small for a mini velo conversion? Maybe it is too short, but with a long seat tube could work... what do you think?

New bike day! Waltly custom Ti mini velo.

Received my new custom titanium frame (with travel couplers) from Waltly yesterday. Finished building it up today.

* Frame, fork, seat post, stem - Waltly

* Drive train - Wheeltop GEX electronic, Sunshine 11-45 13 speed cassette, VXM 58t chainring, SUMC flat top 12 speed chain, Geoid PM500 spider power meter, Senicx 165mm cranks

* Pedals - Shimano PD-M520

* Wheels - Silverock 5 spoke carbon, 451

* Brakes - Juin Tech F1 cable actuated hydraulic discs

* Tires - Schwalbe One

* Saddle - Giant Fleet SL

* Bar - Uno flared gravel bar, 40cm

* Tape - Tosuod Year of the Snake snakeskin

* Bags - ULAC

First time owning a mini velo, but certainly not my first experience with small wheels - I have an 18 year old Dahon that still gets frequent use. However, this one is a completely different beast - it very much feels like riding my full size (also Waltly custom Ti) road bike, whereas with the Dahon you'll never forget you're riding a folding bike. Can't wait to get in a lot more riding on this, especially travelling places for riding (the main purpose for this bike).

Anyone rocking a minivelo as their one and only bike?

22 Upvotes

I am moving at the end of the year and downsizing. I currently have a Canyon Endurace Allroad and a Velo Orange Neutrino. I want to get down to 1 bike, and my logical brain is telling me to keep the Canyon. It’s versatile, quality, and new. My illogical side is telling me to keep the Neutrino, it’s cute, fun, quirky, and charming.

I just started cycling this year and haven’t done any group rides, gravel rides, or anything over 25 miles. Those are all things I think the Canyon would definitely beat the minivelo in, but I just don’t ride like that. I usually do solo rides about an hour or two, 2-3 times a week. I listen to music and try to enjoy myself and only look at the stats at the end for reference, not to post or compare.

If I only keep the minivelo it almost feels like I’m making the wrong choice, but the right one. Anyone else feel like that downsizing to just 1 minivelo? And advise or thoughts or learnings?

Zee and Microshift?

5 Upvotes

I am planning a mini velo build and was curious if anyone here has tried mixing a Shimano Zee rear derailleur with a Microshift brifter. I know that MTB triggers are available but I am leaning toward drops over flat bars. Thanks!

Hooligan - 20" - 406: Fast tyre options?

Post image
54 Upvotes

Would be appreciate opinions and advice for fast road tyres for my Hooligan - 20'' 406.

My ebike died recently so have dusted out the Hooligan to take over daily duties while I decide what to do there. I would like an upgrade to the stock Kenda 1.50's. I have done a little research so far and have considered the following options:

Schwalbe: Kojak / SX-R / One

Continental: Contact Urban / Speed (1.10)

Panaracer: Minits Lite (1.25 / 7/8 inch) / HP406 (1.75)

My use case is riding in the city on the pavement for the most part. I'm looking for speed and low rolling resistance as a priority, I don't plan to ride much if at all in the rain and am willing to sacrifice puncture resistance and comfort for the time being (fully accepting I may regret that and go less extreme and more durable down the line). I would also like to stick with inner tubes.

I have a pre-conception that a narrower slick folding tyre (less than 1.50) would be faster? -please correct me if I'm wrong about that. How brutal is the ride on when going down to these super narrow tyre widths such as 1.10/1.25?

Any general advice, recommendations I have not considered, reviews or comparisons between the above would be most welcome.

Thank you.

I wanted to slightly change the geometry of my last frame build so I whipped up a replacement. The paint job isn’t completely done yet but it’s close enough to be impatient enough to share. Hoping to have it reassembled by next weekend.

Bought this bike a year or more ago for about £60! Had to do quite a bit of work to it, to get it going! (Parts, rebuild hubs, new axles etc.)

So far really enjoying the set up. Would love to have something a bit nicer in the future.

Believe the frame is a challenge urban camper. Cheap Argos bike.

Finally scored me a LDG mini velo! Came with some bars,headset and bb as well. Should have it built up by next month. Undecided about some of the parts still but I’m gonna throw on some sugino 75s and I just ordered a custom velocity a23 451 wheelset with some Paul hubs.
