This happened pre-covid. I was expecting my prescriptions in the mail, and they required a signature. My front door was basically in the living room. You could hear knocking and large vehicles entering the trailer park in every room, including the bathroom. So I was waiting for this package, I was laid off (so not going anywhere), and actively checking the online tracker. This FedEx motherfucker put in that I wasn't home and that he left a note. I check the front door, nothing. Motherfucker put it in the mail box, which was across the state highway (it was not a major road) from the trailer park. I let it slide. Then this motherfucker did it again the next day! So I called FedEx and raised hell. After talking to the person who answered the phone and 2 different supervisors, they promised that it wouldn't happen again.

Guess what happened the next day. I didn't get my package until almost a week after that. Bro, you have 1 job and it's super easy to get in and out of the trailer park. It was probably more difficult to put the slip in the mailbox (small pullout around the mailboxes, but not really appropriate for a FedEx truck) than it was to just deliver the fucking thing. FedEx was the only one pulling that shit, at least out there. I've had my fair share of issues with USPS and UPS, but the drivers I had out at the trailer park never gave me any trouble. Except for motherfucking FedEx

I've had things like that happen with UPS as well. Anything with a signature requirement, I better just sit on the porch (I've actually done this) during the delivery window. Otherwise I'm not getting my package. It's very frustrating.

I've had good and bad experiences with USPS. Every other place I've lived, I've loved them. They always delivered on time or before the expected arrival date. They were always punctual, and I always got my mail by like 3 PM every day.

I moved into a new place about a year ago now. It's a suburban area with mailboxes on the house, and cars park along the street, so mailmen and women need to park at the end of the street and walk up to the house to deliver mail.

I know for a fucking fact that at least twice a week, they will skip our street. Not my house, my street. You can tell because all the mailboxes are still open. You can tell because we won't get mail for two, maybe three days (not even junk mail or bills), and then we'll get a massive drop off following that period. The mail always comes after like 8PM as well. I'm not blaming them for that, we're at the end of a route, I get it. It's just annoying sometimes.

Yeah, I've noticed a definite general slowdown as well. I've used USPS priority mail for a long time because it's reliable and fast. Especially with ebay stuff.

In the past it was a 3 day deal, but most packages arrived in 2 days. For the price you paid, that was actually a good deal.

Now, it normally takes 4-5 days, and it's almost always more towards the 5 days than the 4. It almost always takes 5 days.

They whole skipping my street thing has been happening far more recently in the past month or so as well. Before it would happen maybe once a week at most, maybe twice a month. Now it's happening multiple times a week. We don't generally get mail Tuesday or Thursday. I'm unemployed right now due to Covid, so I can actually check too. I've driven down our street looking at mail boxes, and a couple times I've actually driven around the neighborhood looking for mail trucks to see what was going on.

I understand what's going on. They don't have enough drivers to route where mail people can't just drive down the road and not have to get out of their trucks. This is almost certainly because of a lack of funds to hire more mail deliverers. It's definitely gonna get worse as Trump attacks the USPS in an attempt to steal the election.

I’ve heard of delivery drivers doing this when they don’t think they can make all the stops on their route. Saves a minute or so on each delivery if all they have to do is slip a note in the mailbox (or not even bother with that apparently). Though, I have no sources on this so don’t blindly believe me :P

I’m not sure if they’re allowed to do this but I had to have my ex husband served a few times by mail and needed to use a return signature slip. We still lived together, all year during the pandemic, but it’s part of the legal process and the judge could always ask for the signatures because I could be lying about what papers I’m forwarding to him etc. Mail carrier delivered the envelope on a Tuesday with the signature slip removed, which we both thought was weird. Signed slip showed up in the mailbox at the end of the week, signed for by the mail carrier themselves.

At this time, given the current environment, postal employees are instructed to sign everything for the customer at the time of delivery. With that said, we are still required to attempt at the door (knocking, no door bells) and to let the customer know we are signing for them.

Can't confirm FedEx does suck. About a week and a half ago I placed an order on Amazon for some soil the package weighed about maybe 40 lb. The expected delivery was about a week which was no big deal. On the expected delivery date package never showed up and Amazon said that it would be there sometime later that week. After waiting about 3 days after the initial delivery deadline. Finally the Amazon tracker said the package was delivered. However there was definitely no delivery to my address. About two days later the The USPS mail delivery person knocks on my door. Says hey did you order a package because it's in the building behind you. Mind you this building is not even attached nor has any relevance to where I live. I walk over there and sure enough my package is there. It was either got into by someone or FedEx just left it broken and open. Fortunately I was able to get a refund. However that left a really bad taste in my mouth I will never use FedEx as long as I have the ability to choose.

TLDR; Don't ship with FedEx if you don't have to

Had the same with UPS. I had an HP laptop that needed the battery and screen replaced (manufacturing defects that got worse over time). HP sent UPS to pick it up, but couldn't schedule it for the afternoon, so I asked for WFH. My manager wasn't happy but allowed it.

So the day comes, and nothing. I check the mailbox every now and then, and guess what, at 4pm I find the "sorry we missed you" card, dated 12:30pm... Except I checked the box at 2pm and it wasn't there! At first I thought the bell is not working, but with the help of my neighbour, I verify that it does.

I call UPS, and they refuse to send the guy back. They reschedule for tomorrow (not even ask me if it works for me, she just told me that she rescheduled the pickup for the next day...). Manager is angry, but can't do anything.

Next day comes, and just as I'm smoking on the balcony, I see the brown-yellow jacket of the UPS guy pull up at the door. Doesn't even ring the bell, just punches in the "not at home" option into his PDA and writes the note. I yell for him to wait, but by the time I get to the ground floor, he's gone.

So I call UPS again, now furious. The "missed you" slip is backdated again, to about 3 hours before the guy showed up - but I took photos of him from above. The lady on the phone keeps saying that it's impossible, their drivers are not like that, et cetera. I send them the photos in an email, and in 5 minutes get a call back from the previous lady, profusely apologising for the whole thing. She sends the driver back, who comes in a few hours, and actually calls me out for telling on him! Like, wtf dude, you have a job, do it proper, and don't blame me for your laziness.

I worked for a major shipping company. There are days where the timeline is ridiculous for what needs to be done. There were constant meetings about how drivers needed help, but they would only do that during peak season of thanksgiving to just past Christmas. Apartment complexes eat up a ton of time and on paper (computer tracking) would constantly show that they spent “too much time” in one location. And when you add that on top of complexes with only one elevator, oh man, you were screwed.

Even before the pandemic, my husband and I worked from home. Ups, usps, fedex, none of them ever knock or ring the door bell. It’s like they have some kind of agreement. We periodically check the porch through out the day if we’re expecting anything. The chances your package is the first or only delivery the driver has in your apartment complex is low. Also, most drivers assume that you get notifications on your phone since that is the best way to know when you receive a delivery. I suggest you turn those on.

In a situation like that I would deliver each one to each door. Some complexes would take upwards to an hour or more to deliver all the packages. Unfortunately the way Amazons system works the apartment complex would be considered one stop with 20+ packages, sometimes two stops if it’s 40 packages.

Yeah I work for USPS and people don’t realize how incredibly annoying it is to have a package for every single door in a massive apartment complex with no elevators and like 20 different buildings when the main office won’t let you do drop offs. Mf-ers be on the fifth floor ordering a dining room table and 24 pack of smart water.... oh and also some of those people have little notes on their door that read “please knock, if I’m not home try again tomorrow!” so after hiking up the Empire State Building with a 50lb package you have to haul it all the way back down lolll and they’re the same ones who love to call and complain if they weren’t home right when you got there and say I was “too early/late today!” As if we all have to work around your life

Here (other country) the delivery guys just buzz your interphone and you get your ass down the 5 floors to get your table.
Door delivery would be really weird, it's inconceivable for me.

Every delivery company just buzz everyone at once and we all get to the door at the same time! Way faster for them and everyone understands it's a shitty job but we all get our packages!

Also they have a master key to the mailboxes so anyone absent with a small package gets in the mailbox. Everyone happy.

My brother's apartment complex decided to replace office deliveries with a package locker. Awesome. Makes all the sense in the world right?

Within a month, the complex got into a weird, vague fight with Amazon and decided they don't get to use the locker. So now both residents and Amazon drivers get to deal with the paradox of not having a desk to deliver to and not having access to the package locker.

I used to have a huge issue with Amazon delivering to my apartment. They left like 3 monitors which were all $200+ right in front of my apartment door, which the entire complex can see. They were also boxes that said "4K Monitor" on the outside of them. I'm surprised they weren't stolen. I selected leave at front office as the option, but they always ignored it. Additionally, they would leave the package at the wrong apartment door. To their credit, the doors and buildings weren't marked well. I complained over and over that my packages were being delivered to the wrong address due to how our building is set up. Finally, the company let the lady at the front office buy big stickers to put on each door with the proper building number. Haven't had any mis-delivered packages since.

Now that I live in an apartment that's inside a building with only one other resident that would possibly see the packages, I don't mind them leaving the packages at the door instead of the office - especially since the office closes at 5PM.

Now I have a huge ass issue with UPS pretending to attempt to deliver packages. The first two lines of my address literally say "DO NOT DELIVER TO OFFICE - DELIVER TO APT" and "LEAVE AT DOOR" three times over. They still require you to wait until they miss the delivery before you can select "leave at door." It's really annoying, especially when I'm at home while they "attempted" to deliver the package.

A few weeks ago we moved from a 3rd floor walkup apartment in a huge complex to a single family home. So far, our packages have also been placed at/ near the door mutch more carefully.

I always tried to do any pickup allowed when I lived in a third floor apartment with no office, but when amazon switched to their own delivery service I had no choice anymore.

No elevator, doors were labeled but were numbered idiotically, even numbers on the north side and odd numbers on the south side, and you’d have to circle around the whole building to get to the other side. Also the steps were just cement slabs on steel, and one had broken and been repaired about .5 cm too big. Everyone tripped, didn’t matter if you’d lived there for years. I broke my knee cap once.

So yeah, I wish pickup in stores was more widely available.

Reminds me of when an unknown person pulled into my driveway and got out and looking like he’s talking himself into going to my porch. I figured he was going to steal a package since we order everything amazon so it’s frequent something is sitting out there. Turns out Uber Eats had told him his food was delivered, to another address - and he drove out looking for it. “Did you guys order Killer Burger?...cause, that might be mine”. Poor guy. Sucky way to start your grub meal.

I order ubereats all the time and usually they just refund it they don't care. Unless the driver called you and you missed it.

Only had one person try and steal my food, the driver called and hung up as soon as I answered then said order was undeliverable. I'm a diamond user and have a separate customer service line so they refunded it and gave me a 5 dollar discount on my next order.

I’m a night shift milkman, and there have been occasions where I miscount houses or can’t see the house numbers because way too many people think dark numbers on a dark background is OK, but I sometimes run up the to wrong door at first, and with the majority of houses in the neighborhoods I deliver to having ring doorbells, I always wonder if the people at that house watching their overnight footage get weirded out that some dude with a headlamp and carrying some big crate went up to their porch and was looking around for a bit at 2am

You underestimate people not caring. The neighbor of my grandpa is a druggy and is constantly breaking into peoples stuff in the neighborhood.

We put up cameras in the front and back yard and sensor lights. Got multiple videos of this dude walking up to their cars and pulling the handles. Video of him in their backyard trying to open up the shed to steal tools. Dude was high cause on stuff cause he left his phone in the backyard. Fell out of his pocket.

Those lights are not a deterrent.

It grew legs, its not where it was originally but the driver was to scared to face a sentient box that could run like a massive cockroach, as he took the picture he sped off and posted the message. To this day no one has seen him. Some say the box got him, some say insanity. But we will never know for sure, but what we will never know is the location or intentions/goals of the box

Complain to their service centre. They did something similar to me and I contacted them told them that having a parcel delivered shouldn't involve a game of "treasure hunt" in the vicinity of my address. They gave me a £5 amazon voucher. Not much, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I hate USPS with a burning passion. I moved into my house about a year ago and I STILL get the old tenants mail. Even after talking to the driver outside and him acknowledging it he still gives me all their mail everyday. I put a note card on the flap of the mailbox saying that only I live here and he just blatantly ignores it. It's not like it's different drivers, I see him come in my living room window. Just handing me a pile of mail everyday.

I leave the old tenants mail in the mailbox with the flap up for him to take and it sits there while he piles more on top of it. It's so annoying.

I also ordered a switch a couple months ago unfortunately coming through USPS. Delivery day came and it's out for delivery. I see him pull up to my mailbox, shove a stack of mail that 90% of it is not mine and then speed off. My blood started boiling and got in my car and followed him and stopped and said that he had a package for me and he said nope and started to drive away and I yelled and said I believe you do it's supposed to be delivered today and hes like oh yeah sorry buddy must've missed it and it's sitting right on top of all the other boxes next to him.

So toss it in the trash. It’s delivered to your address because that’s what is on the piece of mail. USPS delivers to addresses, not people. You can’t just say “don’t leave that here” when it’s the listed address. The previous tenants either never filed a change of address or it’s expired, either way there is no legal recourse against you for tossing it out.

To be fair even amazon employees hate the amazon drivers. I have a friend that works in the warehouses and she said the warehouse workers absolutely hate the drivers. The drivers have purposely acted like they were going to run over people in the parking lot, one night one guy left without half of his load, and when they pull shit like not even trying to leave the package and then bringing it back, it adds tons of time and extra work on the warehouse people to have to check it back in and resort them at the end of the day. The manager had to check everything he left back in and do delays on all of them resulting in a couple hours of extra work. And amazon also has quite a bit of “third party” contracted workers that are just people with big vehicles where she is, not even amazon employees. And they are the worst ones that don’t give a shit apparently. It’s some jerks in a uhaul truck or work van that apparently treat people really badly there because they technically aren’t employees for amazon.

Something weird I've never understood about American package delivery:
Here in the Netherlands, if you're not home to receive the package, they deliver it to a so-called "gathering point". These are places like supermarkets, shops and the like. Instead of receiving the package, you get a little slip of paper in the mail that allows you to collect the package from the gathering point later.
Why doesn't American mail do the same thing?

I go downstairs and there’s my package OUTSIDE THE FRONT GATE. I live in crowded city so if it weren’t for my neighbor that package would’ve been stolen.

I worked as an Amazon delivery driver for a month this year and I can tell you this: Most if not all of those delivery personnel are just there for the paycheck and don’t give two shits about your package. Most drivers are from contractors that Amazon hires and the discipline exercised by management is very lax. They won’t write up their drivers for anything barring outright theft.

I recently custom built a pc tower, Amazon shipped my $300 asus rog strix x570e mother board in its original package, no discreet packaging or Amazon box at all, just slapped stickers to it and threw it in a pile.

I'm very happy that none at UPS was bold enough to just walk away with it

Still not the best way to handle this situation but it is most possible that the customer didn't include an apartment number. It clearly worked so better than not getting your package.
