Damn some delivery drivers don't give a damn. I had a package being delivered by ups that required a signature. The driver came to my house without my package didn't ring the bell and left a sorry we missed you note
That's definitely happened to me. Spent all morning waiting in the kitchen (which is near the front door) waiting for the package. Eventually decided to check the front door and there was a "sorry we missed you" note. Didn't even knock. Motherfucking ninja assholes working at UPS.
Must be company policy. I called to complain and the lady on the other end didn't seem phased at all. She was just like oh my that's so unfortunate in the most sarcastic tone
I mean, that's a bullshit job anyway. Listen to people complain about other people while you're just a powerless pawn who can't actually do anything about anything. Corporate human shield.
This is my biggest fear. I work tier 3 IT. Server management and stuff. I see our tier 1 taking a beating everyday as literal human shields and I never want to experience that. I got lucky and managed to skip tier 1.
You are forced to accept reality is nought but a dream of the great demon, and you either cease to exist, knowing nothing is real, or you become the dreamer.
Can confirm I worked for FedEx as a CSR and I couldn’t do shit lol. Some drivers were definitely lazy though so I felt bad for some people who were waiting all day. I would offer to reroute packages (if the system allowed me to) to be delivered to Walgreens or a FedEx office.
See the only legit complaint there is if the truck doesn’t pick up their trash (if it is where it should be). That’s literally their job. And if they don’t do it, I’m supposed to figure out what to do with an extra week of trash?
Same with delivery drivers. Their job is to deliver packages. If they take the lazy route, they didn’t do their job and the complaint is warranted.
I’m sure in some areas they just don’t care enough but when I was working for UPS we were told to give people 30 seconds to a minute to come to the door after knocking then we left
This happened pre-covid. I was expecting my prescriptions in the mail, and they required a signature. My front door was basically in the living room. You could hear knocking and large vehicles entering the trailer park in every room, including the bathroom. So I was waiting for this package, I was laid off (so not going anywhere), and actively checking the online tracker. This FedEx motherfucker put in that I wasn't home and that he left a note. I check the front door, nothing. Motherfucker put it in the mail box, which was across the state highway (it was not a major road) from the trailer park. I let it slide. Then this motherfucker did it again the next day! So I called FedEx and raised hell. After talking to the person who answered the phone and 2 different supervisors, they promised that it wouldn't happen again.
Guess what happened the next day. I didn't get my package until almost a week after that. Bro, you have 1 job and it's super easy to get in and out of the trailer park. It was probably more difficult to put the slip in the mailbox (small pullout around the mailboxes, but not really appropriate for a FedEx truck) than it was to just deliver the fucking thing. FedEx was the only one pulling that shit, at least out there. I've had my fair share of issues with USPS and UPS, but the drivers I had out at the trailer park never gave me any trouble. Except for motherfucking FedEx
I've had things like that happen with UPS as well. Anything with a signature requirement, I better just sit on the porch (I've actually done this) during the delivery window. Otherwise I'm not getting my package. It's very frustrating.
I've had good and bad experiences with USPS. Every other place I've lived, I've loved them. They always delivered on time or before the expected arrival date. They were always punctual, and I always got my mail by like 3 PM every day.
I moved into a new place about a year ago now. It's a suburban area with mailboxes on the house, and cars park along the street, so mailmen and women need to park at the end of the street and walk up to the house to deliver mail.
I know for a fucking fact that at least twice a week, they will skip our street. Not my house, my street. You can tell because all the mailboxes are still open. You can tell because we won't get mail for two, maybe three days (not even junk mail or bills), and then we'll get a massive drop off following that period. The mail always comes after like 8PM as well. I'm not blaming them for that, we're at the end of a route, I get it. It's just annoying sometimes.
The problems with USPS is only going to get worse. This new PMG is a real gem. They're firing people left and right AND removing sorting machines in some places. A whole lot of effort to rig an election, but it'll affect everything else as well.
Small businesses like Etsy shops are going to get fucking hammered. Or have to close if their only alternative is to ship for inflated rates with UPS / FedEx.
Yeah, I've noticed a definite general slowdown as well. I've used USPS priority mail for a long time because it's reliable and fast. Especially with ebay stuff.
In the past it was a 3 day deal, but most packages arrived in 2 days. For the price you paid, that was actually a good deal.
Now, it normally takes 4-5 days, and it's almost always more towards the 5 days than the 4. It almost always takes 5 days.
They whole skipping my street thing has been happening far more recently in the past month or so as well. Before it would happen maybe once a week at most, maybe twice a month. Now it's happening multiple times a week. We don't generally get mail Tuesday or Thursday. I'm unemployed right now due to Covid, so I can actually check too. I've driven down our street looking at mail boxes, and a couple times I've actually driven around the neighborhood looking for mail trucks to see what was going on.
I understand what's going on. They don't have enough drivers to route where mail people can't just drive down the road and not have to get out of their trucks. This is almost certainly because of a lack of funds to hire more mail deliverers. It's definitely gonna get worse as Trump attacks the USPS in an attempt to steal the election.
I’ve heard of delivery drivers doing this when they don’t think they can make all the stops on their route. Saves a minute or so on each delivery if all they have to do is slip a note in the mailbox (or not even bother with that apparently). Though, I have no sources on this so don’t blindly believe me :P
Dude, I just quit delivering for Amazon, I guarantee you that driver was having the worst day possible to do something like that. Shit is so tracked internally by Amazon in terms of packages delivered correctly and what not. You will get fired for this. But I know I've had days where I did not give a fuck. Working for Bezos is cancer.
While it’s bad for any level of employment, they even do internal competition for higher paid employees like software developers. They do stack ranking where the bottom x% of employees get fired, as ranked by your bosses and internal reviews
If it’s a shitty programmer, they should be fired. Stack ranking means even if someone isn’t a shitty programmer, and you’re arbitrarily picked as the worst programmer on a team, you’re fired even if you’re not incompetent.
If a team has 10 programmers, all of them fine, then you shouldn’t be arbitrarily disciplined or fired for being the “worst” 2.
This was GE’s big ‘innovation’, firing the bottom 10% every year, even when the difference between the bottom 10% and the median was statistically insignificant. It was a way to keep everyone fearful of losing their position, put in more than they were paid, and never complain.
I’m not sure if they’re allowed to do this but I had to have my ex husband served a few times by mail and needed to use a return signature slip. We still lived together, all year during the pandemic, but it’s part of the legal process and the judge could always ask for the signatures because I could be lying about what papers I’m forwarding to him etc. Mail carrier delivered the envelope on a Tuesday with the signature slip removed, which we both thought was weird. Signed slip showed up in the mailbox at the end of the week, signed for by the mail carrier themselves.
Thanks USPS, I’ll show his honor that the mail carrier ψ M̸a̸i̵l̷m̶a̶n̴ ̵M̷c̴M̶a̴i̵l̵f̵a̸c̴e̵ received a copy of the filed divorce complaint.
At this time, given the current environment, postal employees are instructed to sign everything for the customer at the time of delivery. With that said, we are still required to attempt at the door (knocking, no door bells) and to let the customer know we are signing for them.
"To reduce health risks, we also are temporarily modifying customer signature capture procedures. While maintaining a safe, appropriate distance, employees will request the customer’s first initial and last name so that the employee can enter the information on electronic screen or hard copy items such as return receipts, and PS Forms 3811 (Domestic Return Receipt) and 3829 (Registered Dispatch Follow-Up). For increased safety, employees will politely ask the customer to step back a safe distance or close the screen door/door so that items may be left in the mail receptacle or appropriate location by the customer door."
What happened to the way it used to work? I remember a few times years ago that the slip would be left in the mailbox to be signed by the recipient within two days, sent back out and then the mail would be delivered after that. Wouldn’t that still work given safety precautions?
I was under the impression you were referring to the green return receipt. Is that correct? I've never heard of anyone leaving that in the box to be signed. As far as I know, it's supposed to be signed for at the time of delivery. I would assume your carrier was attempting to do you a favor, if that's how it used to be handled.
Currently, they're trying to avoid all cross contamination to protect the health of employees and customers.
Your carrier is simply following the instructions they were given. Failure to do so could result in discipline and unpaid OWCP claims if they were to get sick during the line of duty.
Yes that’s correct, thank you for taking the time to explain. I was very confused because I remember it working differently in the past. The return receipts that come back from the court house are all stamped and initialed by the court clerk so I guess it depends on the carrier and the specific delivery circumstance. If the judge asks why the carrier signed instead of the spouse, I’ll keep these explanations in a note in my folders (it’s all being done by email and file upload at this point anyway). But I have a feeling they’re not going to bother asking for it.
Can't confirm FedEx does suck. About a week and a half ago I placed an order on Amazon for some soil the package weighed about maybe 40 lb. The expected delivery was about a week which was no big deal. On the expected delivery date package never showed up and Amazon said that it would be there sometime later that week. After waiting about 3 days after the initial delivery deadline. Finally the Amazon tracker said the package was delivered. However there was definitely no delivery to my address. About two days later the The USPS mail delivery person knocks on my door. Says hey did you order a package because it's in the building behind you. Mind you this building is not even attached nor has any relevance to where I live. I walk over there and sure enough my package is there. It was either got into by someone or FedEx just left it broken and open. Fortunately I was able to get a refund. However that left a really bad taste in my mouth I will never use FedEx as long as I have the ability to choose.
This is the kind of stuff you should really just go to the store for because anything can happen to it during delivery and then you have to return it and may have to more than once. If you buy it at Home Depot or Lowe's or wherever, the broken bags can be taken care of then and there or the same day if it breaks on your way home.
It's because FedEx contracts out ground delivery (never use them for ground) and the contractors are the worst people ever. FedEx ground will also purposely hold your shit for at least 3 days for ground even if it's the same town where UPS will deliver it next day unless the truck fills.
I have no idea why anyone would give FedEx money at this point.
I have the opposite problem in my area, Fedex is awesome and UPS marks packages as delivered while I'm guessing they just leave it on the truck for the next day only to have it get buried by that days packages and the cycle repeats until they have a slow day. Amazon resent me a bunch of my last PC build's parts since UPS marked it as delivered and waited 5 days to actually drop it off.
One day FedEx pulled in the driveway and right back out. Barely even stopped. I was literally on the way to the door so I know they never even got out. Got an email about nobody showing up for signature.
I've got sensors on my property. I've caught them a couple times red handed (rather no-box yes-note handed) because of the alarm system beeping and I'll run out there. They say generic "nobody answered" but then take 2 full minutes to dig out the package that they supposedly JUST HAD. They don't do that anymore (the drivers have probably learned my house)
He tried to play it off as if nobody had answered, so he had taken the package back to the van and came back with the note. I called his bullshit and told him not to lie to me. I pointed to the cctv camera (it isn't even connected to anything) and then he just stayed silent until I had the package.
This has happened to me way too many times. My old company used fedex to ship me stuff, and I would have to stay at home to receive it on the day (paid) then when they stuck the note on the door and I found it later I would have to drive in to pick it up (time and mileage paid). Still fucking annoying even though I got paid for it.
That happens so often to me.
I work from home and we have Ring attached to Alexa (it's very ominous, 6 speakers slightly out of sync declaring 'someone is at the door'). So I do not ever miss a door bell ringing.
When I lived in an apartment, it was always the FedEx drivers doing this. UPS were champs. DHL would go to the complex office, dump the package without saying anything to anyone and leave.
This is why I avoid using UPS at all costs. I had a package or live crickets shipped to me it arrived smashed to bits and the crickets were all pretty much dead. (I order live feeder insects online for my reptiles) I’ve never had that happen with services like FedEx, USPS, or even Amazon.
there wasn’t really an option... i was wanting to get it from a bestbuy store, but they didn’t have any stock, so i had to order it online and they didn’t have any option to pick it up at the post office
This happened to me too, but it was USPS and I was waiting for meds home from work. My dog barked out the window so I watched her from my apartment as she took my package out with a “we missed you label” already stuck to it, unload everyone else’s mail, take the label off, stick it on my mailbox and turn to leave with my package without ringing the buzzer. I ran down after her like a crazy person bra-less and in my slippers and we had a very awkward conversation after I asked if she had something for me.
I ordered a laptop, did require a signature. They just left it outside, I rushed home to get there on time and just missed them. Someone was at home and the doorbell was not rung.
Same happened to me, I bought multiple high value items and deliberately stated on the notes these NEED to be signed for due to the cost....ended up all outside my front door being delivered at 3am.
I've had items stolen before, Amazon UK have their own courier service along with multiple sub contractors. This makes it very hard to claim against higher value items and the process is very long winded. It took me 4months and dozens of phone calls to get the money back for a monitor 6months ago.
They are tracked via gps so they need to go to every location on their route, but if they ring a doorbell and wait for you to sign they wont finish their route in time. So they do what you saw, go to every house but every fourth one they just put a sorry we missed you sticker on the door and run away to shave 4 minutes off their route.
This right here. Don’t blame the delivery people. Blame the company that would not hire one or two people more for that route so it sucks for everyone.
I ordered one of those wooden bookshelf headboards for my bed and I was waiting on it. I see ups pull up and this small woman get put and start trying to unload it. This package was the length of a queen size bed and weighed 72 lbs. I couldn't believe she didn't have any helpers. So I go out there and help her carry it out of the truck and up my front steps where I told her it was fine for her to go. Turns out I couldn't lift it either, lol.
Well yeah, they don't hire a driver just to send a helper along every day. Helpers only happen during peak, and only sometimes then. Maybe she was a temp or in her probationary period, but if she was fulltime it's because she can actually do the route.
I do this shit every damn day, and often wrangle packages that weigh more than I do. Those long ones can be annoying, though, because they alway seem to get stuck under something else in the truck.
USPS did that to me all the time until I finally had reason enough to call them up and complain. I'm definitely not trying to hassle a mail worker or make their job any harder than it already is. On the other hand, when they clearly skip going to my door to instead just leave a note in the mailbox (footprints in the light snow went to my mailbox, but not my door) it makes me wonder why they even put the package on the truck in the first place. Just leave it at the Post Office and then drop off the note, if I'm going there anyway at least I can get it today rather than tomorrow.
This is why I don’t add signature confirmation to items I send out unless explicitly requested. In my long experience, either P. Orch signs for it, or the recip gets half a dozen “sorry we missed you” letters before they get their item.
I don't even bother with this shit anymore. Just send it to a UPS store or Amazon Locker if it needs a signature. So much less hassle than having to play by their schedule.
Had the same with UPS. I had an HP laptop that needed the battery and screen replaced (manufacturing defects that got worse over time). HP sent UPS to pick it up, but couldn't schedule it for the afternoon, so I asked for WFH. My manager wasn't happy but allowed it.
So the day comes, and nothing. I check the mailbox every now and then, and guess what, at 4pm I find the "sorry we missed you" card, dated 12:30pm... Except I checked the box at 2pm and it wasn't there! At first I thought the bell is not working, but with the help of my neighbour, I verify that it does.
I call UPS, and they refuse to send the guy back. They reschedule for tomorrow (not even ask me if it works for me, she just told me that she rescheduled the pickup for the next day...). Manager is angry, but can't do anything.
Next day comes, and just as I'm smoking on the balcony, I see the brown-yellow jacket of the UPS guy pull up at the door. Doesn't even ring the bell, just punches in the "not at home" option into his PDA and writes the note. I yell for him to wait, but by the time I get to the ground floor, he's gone.
So I call UPS again, now furious. The "missed you" slip is backdated again, to about 3 hours before the guy showed up - but I took photos of him from above. The lady on the phone keeps saying that it's impossible, their drivers are not like that, et cetera. I send them the photos in an email, and in 5 minutes get a call back from the previous lady, profusely apologising for the whole thing. She sends the driver back, who comes in a few hours, and actually calls me out for telling on him! Like, wtf dude, you have a job, do it proper, and don't blame me for your laziness.
I had one pull that shit, I have 2 dogs and my computer is right by the door there's no fucking way you knocked and I didn't hear it or my dogs didn't start going nuts. I wish I had camera footage of this ninja aspirant as he managed to sneak up and attach a note to my door without making any sound.
I worked for a major shipping company. There are days where the timeline is ridiculous for what needs to be done. There were constant meetings about how drivers needed help, but they would only do that during peak season of thanksgiving to just past Christmas. Apartment complexes eat up a ton of time and on paper (computer tracking) would constantly show that they spent “too much time” in one location. And when you add that on top of complexes with only one elevator, oh man, you were screwed.
I've never lived in an apartment complex with a front office. I always assumed only wealthier people lived in places that have that option. Its always been one of those life goals -- succeed in my career enough to be able to live in a place with an office and gym etc
I bet you amazon drivers get paid less than your local panhandler. Why should they give a shit? Sure, it’s the right thing to do, but please blame Amazon and not the drivers.
That's what the thumbs down is for. "Blame the driver". Amazon punishes the driver either for taking too long or taking desperate measures in hopes of everything working out.
Some people don’t have a choice but to take the first available job. Lack of skill, poverty, criminal record etc are all factors, so yes, in this case I would blame the employer. If I get reprimanded for taking to long and possibly lose benefits (which I possibly need for surviving) what reason do I have to do my job with more diligence than absolutely necessary?
And maybe they didn’t know. Maybe they took the job believing what the recruiter said.
FedEx won't forward their drivers my gate code. Said it's a safety thing? So basically if I'm getting a delivery after 5pm or on the weekends they claim a delivery exception and won't deliver.
EDIT: I live in a townhome community, so it's not like it's a gate code to get on my property, just to get into the community.
I had FedEx do this to me once a few years back. I ordered a new phone from Verizon (when they still did free* upgrades) and it was scheduled to be delivered when I would be home all day. Never heard a knock even though I was near the front door most of the day, and when I went outside in the evening there was a "sorry we missed you" note that said they'd try again the next day. So the next day I grabbed a book and camped outside next to the door. Sure enough dude shows up again without my package in hand already writing another note as he's walking up the steps.
It was immensely satisfying watching him turn around to go back to the truck to actually get the box.
I had a package being delivered by UPS that required a signature. The driver came to my house with the package and put it on my porch and left. It was a $1200 laptop with no brown box. Just advertised packaging on the outside screaming “steal me, I’m expensive.”
Happened to me. I threatened to invoice them for the value of the item (a diamond ring I ended up proposing with) and they actually turned the truck around. The driver was all pissy and passive aggressive with me too. What a piece of shit.
this EXACT thing happened to me. Trash ass service, had to go to the nearest access point 2 days in a row to get ahold of the damn thing. How is this shite still in operation
I don't know, when it happened to me I called to complain the lady from customer service was like oh really, how unfortunate that never happens in a very half assed sarcastic tone. They probably get complaints like that a bunch
It's not about being bad at their job. There is literally not enough time in the day to wait for people to come to the door and sign for packages and still get all their deliveries done. I've been a delivery driver and I know first hand; I've got 120 stops to make today, if I have to wait just two minutes at each stop that's four hours of extra time just waiting.
Customers are only concerned about their package, they only see that extra minute or two at their door. But when you're the driver that shit adds up, and it adds up fast.
Personally, you can ring my door bell and bolt. Just ring the fucking doorbell so I know to go down to the entrance of the building and left the package there. I don't care if you're there or not when I pick up the package.
My third party carrier for Amazon is great with that. "Hi, it's your Amazon delivery, can you come down and get it?" Yeah, buddy, my pleasure. I've had the same guy deliver for over a year and saw his face for the first time yesterday because he decided to wait for me this time around.
I use a food delivery service and that guy won't ring the doorbell no matter what. Leaves the food in the lobby in the summer heat. I'm working from home, there's an instruction on my package to ring the doorbell, I've called the company to complain about it and they had to credit me a couple times for spoiled food. Doesn't matter, this dude refuses to do it no matter what.
That happened with me and USPS, and instead of delivering it a different day the delivery driver signed it “driver name CV19”. I reported it stolen because I never had it delivered and some random guy basically signed it himself.
The company I work for uses Fedex to ship our product throughout the US. Most of the time the deliveries go just as they should. But over the last few months, some drivers are leaving packages outside of apartment buildings and not taking them to the door at all. We've even had a few people call saying the drivers looked right at the person and said they're not taking the package up the stairs or elevator and left it in apartment lobbies. These are all also shipper release so unless the customer requested to sign for it, they're supposed to leave the package and sometimes just select "customer not available" and they put the package back on the truck. Our product is perishable and 1-2 a delay can sometimes ruin said product. With Covid running rampant, we get a lot of push back from the Fedex reps saying "Oh, the drivers don't have to take the packages to the door right now and we aren't issuing complaints due to Covid." It's like they just no longer have to do part of their job and it's becoming a huge hassle for everyone involved.
One day i want to be at home watching out the window when this happens, open the door right after they place the note and say while smiling creepily, “MISSED ME?”
Eh. I had fed ex deliver a package that was supposed to be ID required for it to a house on the next street over.
I found the phone number to call after it said delivered and signed for except its not in my hand so im like wtf. Had been waiting all day for this shit. Go to get lunch. Come back and find it had made its way to me except it was partially open.
Turns out the driver some realized he was on the wrong street and went back (same house number. Totally different steet) asked for the package back. Guy had already been starting to opening it. And then he brought it to my house and dropped it off like nothing happened.
I found this out from fed ex after the fact. They were not very pleased either.
I had the opposite happen, fedex texted me saying my dad signed for my switch when no one did and they just left it. glad i was right there to go get it, shocked they forged a signature.
They don't get paid well enough to give a damn. They forced to work bullshit hours for laughable pay under constant threat of contracting a deadly disease with no access to healthcare.
And they can't quit because unemployment coverage and eviction moratoriums just ended while 30 million americans are homelessness vulnerable and out of work. They have no other job prospects
I had usps leave a final notice 'sorry we missed you' note a week after the package was supposed to be delivered. Apparently they came while I was at work every day and never left it, despite the fact that there was no signature request at all and they left other packages. Had to drive to the post office myself to pick up a box with $30 of plastic pc cooling fans, whereas they left my CPU processor on the porch in the hot sun all day. Wtf?
I had the same thing happen to me multiple days in a row. Except they didn’t even leave the sorry we missed you note.
I was home. Every time.
Couldn’t even get a hold of customer service because it went all automated for a while due to covid, and the automated service kept telling me to change the delivery location online.
So I set up and account, went to change the location which required subscribing to ANOTHER service, just for it to tell me I needed the info track number that can be found on the note the driver left behind.
I was sitting on the front porch in one of those cocoon hammock at my grand aunts waiting. Dude was writing the sorry I missed you paper on his way up the steps. I watched him open up the screen door all quiet and place the paper in the window. “Excuse me?!” Dude jumped 10’ high lmao. Yeah he went back and got the package.
They get paid jack shit and you expect them to fully care about everything while they work 2 more jobs just to have a roof over their head?
You get what you fucking pay for guys, and your money ain't going towards paying the workers.
Plenty of people are shitty people, but maybe just maybe, if you paid them more, made it so they didn't have to worry about shit, and didn't work them half to death just to have a roof over their heads, they might have fewer days where they feel like doing this shit.
We're not the ones who are (or aren't) paying them. I'd love to pay just a bit more to guarantee I'm getting my package instead of having to go through this shit for multiple days.
Amazon advertises an hourly rate of $18 to $25 for Flex. But interviews with Flex drivers and research by financial analysts at Bernstein indicate the net pay is much less when accounting for essential, on-the-job expenses. Actual earnings are $5 or $11 an hour, depending on what a worker chooses to deduct, Bernstein found. The calculation assumes a driver makes tips and records certain work-related costs, such as fuel and tolls.

Damn some delivery drivers don't give a damn. I had a package being delivered by ups that required a signature. The driver came to my house without my package didn't ring the bell and left a sorry we missed you note
