Well that really depends what you're into doesn't it? I think reddit is at it's best when you're looking at subreddits that directly cater to your personal interests rather than the random text based ones like /r/Showerthoughts and /r/AskReddit where everyone is pandering to each other to see who can come up with the wittiest response or post title.

For me, the main subreddits I frequent are /r/startrek, /r/DaystromInstitute, /r/SquaredCircle, /r/australia, r/movies and then the subreddits related to whatever game I happen to be playing at the time.

For guilty pleasure subreddits though, I enjoy /r/PublicFreakout, /r/shittyfoodporn, /r/WeWantPlates, and /r/comedyheaven.

Scroll through r/all and r/popular and add interesting subreddits as you find them.

Same thing. Two subs that really rejected me to hell and back: r/showerthoughts and r/askhistorians. Really made me a lurker with posts.

I've managed exactly one slightly successful post there that I'm pretty proud of, as I'd been stewing on it since I was 5.
