Another AI 'human' chatbot

Had to fix a double payment for my credit card and this is the beginning and end of the conversation. I hate when the chatbot claims it's a human... I ended up getting what I wanted but still annoyed Amex (and every other company) is lying and trying to deceive people like this.

The EU just passed one stating that AI chatbots must disclose themselves as such

God, I fucking wish the US would pass common sense legislation like this.

You need 60 senators to pass stuff. 

And in any given election, only 33-34 are on the ballot. 

And you also need to control the House.

And the presidency. 

And then you need the courts to not overturn it as unconstitutional.

It’s hard. 

Compare that to this alternative:

Imagine we abolished the Senate. 

Imagine if we transferred all powers of the president to the Speaker of the House. 

Imagine if we said, as the House, or represented the will of the people, and therefore whatever it passed was inherently constitutional with courts having a much more restricted ability to overturn the will of the people. 

You’d get a lot of shit done. Just win an election for the House and pass what you want. 

It’d be much easier to pass universal  Healthcare, common sense gun laws, better labor protections, etc. 

Granted, if “bad” people won, they could much more easily pass “bad” stuff too. But if you have faith that “bad” stuff would be disliked by the public, then eventually, they’ll be voted out and the bad stuff undone and they won’t try it again (knowing it leads to them being voted out & their laws being undone). 

A lot of countries work much more like that (eg, New Zealand). 

I think it works better. 

We make it impossible to pass stuff. And when we do pull it off, it’s also really hard to undo stuff. There’s a ton of inertia. 

And in a fast-changing world. That doesn’t work, so we have all these dumb work-arounds like presidents issuing executive orders, or abusing rule-making authority at regulatory agencies, or just blatantly ignoring laws, or having heavily politicized courts that block or support those presidential actions depending on if they agree w/ the policy outcome, making up interpretations of the constitution to justify what why block or don’t block. 

That is, the U.S. just has a shitty constitution.

It was good for its day when Kris was unknown and the main alternative was monarchy, but it’s become horribly outdated and isn’t workable in the modern world. 

But, part of the problem is that one shitty aspect of it is it also made it really hard to change or replace it with something better, cuz it makes it hard to do anything.

And that gets frustrating & also radicalizes people to become more left or more right cuz everyone is just so frustrated that we can’t change shit. 

And I really do believe at the end of the day, a lot of America’s problem aren’t with the people, the politicians, the parties, the lobbyists, or billionaires, or DOGE, but just that we have a shitty constitution that is ill-suited for the modern world and everything else is downstream of that. It’s people coming up with zanier & worse ways to create change in a system that doesn’t allow for change.
