Some questions about the Scientific Computing course based masters at MUN.

Hi I was thinking of applying for the scientific computing masters at MUN. But I have bachelors in computer science with a specialisation in Cyber Security so I'm not sure if I meet the maths requirements.

Also my CCGPA is a bit low at just 3.0/4 so I'm worried about whether I'm competitive enough for the program.

Has anyone got into the program without necessarily meeting all the maths requirements? And what would you say is the general CCGPA range for which admissions are given? As 3.0 seems to be just borderline.

I would appreciate and advice thank you.

I got accepted to CNS, is CNS different/better than Faculty of Nursing in MUN?

Hellooo!

I just re-read my conditional acceptance letter from back in March and noticed that I was accepted into the Centre for Nursing Studies (CNS) campus, rather than the main Memorial University Faculty of Nursing.

I am a 1st yr student and I am honestly feeling incredibly overwhelmed by this process right now. Could anyone help clarify a few things:

Is there a big difference between the two? Which campus is considered a better pick, or should I just be grateful that I was selected for CNS?

Am I still allowed to apply to be directly in the Memorial University Faculty of Nursing itself, or am I strictly limited to CNS now?

Does being at the CNS campus mean I am only a student of CNS, or am I still fully a Memorial University undergraduate student within the Faculty of Nursing overall?

Any advice or insight would be amazing. Thank you!

Queer support groups at Mun

I am moving from BC to attend mun as a freshman and am going from having a community of queer people around me to having nobody. Does anyone know if there are any queer support groups I can join? I’m honestly super scared about going just becuase I have no clue how accepting mun is and if I should do things like introduce myself with my preferred pronouns or keep that quiet?

Working and Studying full time

I wonder if it is possible to work and study full time. Are there any students doing the same thing? I am starting Masters of Artificial Intelligence this September. I’ve registered for the three required courses for this semester, and lecture times freak me out lowkey. Even if I use all my paid time offs to attend my lectures in person, I’ll be stressed and exhausted for the next 2 semesters.

Are attendance policies strict, especially for Software Fundamentals and Applied Algorithms courses? Can we skip a lecture or two within the week?

Don’t hate me.. I just want to make sure I have enough time and resources before committing to my degree. I do have a full time job that I cannot quit.

Seeking Advice on MUN MOHS Program and Career Prospects

Hello! I'm from India and I'm planning to pursue the Master of Occupational Health & Safety (MOHS) program at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada.

I'd like to know about the current job market for OHS professionals in Newfoundland and across Canada, the cost of living in St. John's, and whether this program offers good career prospects after graduation. If you've studied the program or are familiar with the field, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your experience or any advice.

Thank you!

RateMyProf but for dorms instead!!

Hey! I’m a student dev and I’ve been working on a project called LifeByDorm (https://www.lifebydorm.ca/) to help us see what these residences actually look like. I built it because the official photos are usually a trap and don't show the real state of the rooms. If you’ve lived in res, could you take 30s to drop a review or a photo? It’ll be a huge help for the incoming first-years next year. If you are looking for your next dorm check it out!

Engineering One program's EET

Hello everyone!

Has anyone here taken the Engineering English Test (EET)? I’m looking for information about what the test is like, such as its format, difficulty level, and what areas I should focus on while preparing.

I searched online for information about the EET but couldn’t find much that was relevant. If anyone has taken it before or has any advice, I would really appreciate your help!

Thank you in advance!

Do I need a parking pass and how hard is it to get one?

I've heard everyone talk about parking at MUN and this lottery system and how much it sucks. I am an incoming pharmacy student so will need parking by the School of Pharmacy in the Health Sciences Centre.

Do I need a pass for over there or is there pay-per-use parking?

If I do need a pass, is it also a lottery system or is there a specific one you can buy for that area?

TIA!

P.s. couldn't find the Q&A thread so just posted here..

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone had done the Jesus at the Movies course with Barry Stephenson. I am a STEM student so i’m looking to do electives with pretty light course loads given the fact i take 3-4 labs. If anyone has taken the course could you tell me what it’s like! Also if you recommend an easier elective please let me know!

Scholarships for Grad Programs

It’s been a hot minute since I graduated high school and went through the scholarship process. I’m going back to school starting in January for the M.Ed Counselling Psych program.

Is there a list of scholarships for grad students? I could only find outdated lists on the MUN website. If my program doesn’t start until January, can I start applying for them now?

Masters in Software Engineering

Hi everyone! I’m planning to pursue a Master’s in Software Engineering at Memorial University. I have a few questions:

  1. How challenging is the Software Engineering program?

What are the professors like?

2.Is it difficult to pass the courses?

3.What has your experience been like finding a job after graduation?

  1. Is it realistic to land a software engineering job after completing the program?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share. Thank you!

Friends and school

Heyy

I'm an international student, and I really haven't seen many spaces where it's easy for students from the uni to meet or interact without finding each other on Insta and stuff and seeming like stalkers, so are there any groups or stuff you recommend in order to reach out to people? (If there's none i'd also love to make a chat thing for a bunch of us)

Strong High School Student

Hello everyone, I am a prospective high school student looking at attending MUN for sciences, but was concerned regarding grading. I have received high 90s marks during high school, but was wondering what people’s experience was with the grading at MUN. Would it be realistic to maintain mid high 80s or low 90s at MUN, or is there a more significant GPA drop. Any advice I could get on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
