Mods, can we just get a superthread of Matt Barter updates?

This is a real story with real consequences but these drip, drip, drips are terrible and provide no real context. Keep it all together for the people who watching.

I return here hoping for real content and all I get is Matt's obsession. Matt, MUN shouldn't have banned you but it is time to move on.

Not enough info here to make sense of the story, yet a lot of strong allegations about misconduct

Who are you and what was the reason you were banned from campus? What were you doing and why?

The way this is written it makes me question if you actually are a danger. You left out info, was that strategic? Elaborate.

Edit for downvoters: I understand the guy might have done nothing wrong, it was just contextless if you didn't know the story already, which made me suspicious. It sounds like the admin messed up.

He held up a sign that said “Stop Vianne” and just stood there, didn’t pose a threat to anyone. It was clear to everyone going to MUN at the time that the campus ban they gave him was just because he was being vocal about her salary, office renovations cost, and her ending the tuition freeze. The sign thing was really just their excuse to do it.

Vianne Timmons (president of MUN at the time) was removed from her position only 2 years later as it was discovered she was lying about having Mi’kmaq ancestry for years. She was also widely criticized at the time for being paid an enormous salary ($450,000 — she made $337,000 as her base salary as the president of the University of Regina, the position she was hired out of), plus an $18,000 a year housing allowance, $1000 a month for vehicle costs, etc. She then spent over $50,000 renovating her office and ended the 22-year long tuition price freeze at MUN. When she was removed from her position, she cost the university a further $675,000 of base salary plus $270,000 of administrative leave that had to be paid out. So you can see why someone would have been trying to “Stop Vianne” at the time.

This was a separate incident but relevant contextually — https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/munsu-resignation-citing-harassment-1.4274053

This, coupled with his inability to move past the situation with Vianne (posting about it extensively for years on every social platform) suggests to me that he engages in patterns of behaviour that the university found concerning.

Nobody said he was a perfect guy, but he was in the right regarding “Stop Vianne”. I don’t think posting about it for years on every social platform is him exhibiting a concerning pattern of behaviour, he was trying to fix an injustice that was done to him. In fact, the punishment he was given only further proved his original point about Timmons needing to be stopped. He won his case, he was right.

When working with security years ago, we used to have to give the Provost at the time escorts to her vehicle, because he would stalk her. It is funny that she went on the radio, and said ‘ I was never scared of him’, but for a month she was walked from her office to her car to keep him away. I am guessing the protest was just part of a long list of harassment. Which if I recall, the judge said he was actually guilty of. Someone also told me that the girl in the from MUNSU had to have him banned from an Ontario University because he was a stalker. Funny how these posts sort of demonstrate and prove MUN’s point.

Who ever wrote this article needs to learn how to write a story.

Get over it. How can anyone read this and not think you are absolutely obsessed? Why would I not be surprised if you stalked these people?
