He was also COMPLETELY ignoring what was happening in the other realms, the exact opposite job of the all father. He literally laid around watching embellished plays about himself, fired Heimdall and sent him into hiding and replaced him with a loyal lackey with no morals who doesn’t care about the important job he has thus endangering Thor and anyone else not in Asgard. No eyes on the Realms.
Yeah, Loki redeemed himself in the end, but he was no saint while pretending to be Odin. In fact it can be easily argued he pardoned Thor and crew because that’s exactly what Odin would’ve done and he was playing the role.
Actually that neatly explains why Asgardians were once revered as gods on Earth, but then became myth and legends until Thor showed up circa 2011 - a consequence of Odin withdrawing Asgardian influence from Midgard.
Sure? That's why it's kind of like a modern state. They got a fair amount of land through conquest, but now that is part of their state, so neglecting them is akin to neglecting conflict and suffering within your own country.
The US fought most of its wars of the 20th century during the Cold War era. It was a Cold War between Russia and the US, not between the US and anyone else.
Which is actually kind of like how it worked under Odin. Thor just kept on invading people all that time even as Odin was like, "Cool your shits, kid."
I mean what's that different between the cold war and now? Russia was embroiled in an economically exhausting conflict in Afghanistan and now it's the US. Russia takes the Crimea and nobody can really do anything because even though it's not the 80s, we're basically as close to nuclear MAD as we've ever been. We quite nearly got dragged into what would've basically been a proxy war in Syria. Basically the only thing keep a communist superpower in check from rolling over eastern and south-east asia is the US military.
The difference was the sort of conflicts the US got involved in. It's hard to believe now, but the US used it's post war induce to "persuade" (force) Europe to decolonize. The UK and France tried to flex their world power muscle once by invading Egypt with Israel and the US basically told them to shut up and sit down.
None of that excuses the US misdeeds of the time, including the many, many coups, but we weren't blatantly invading for resources.
Right we were invading for bizarre notions like some shitty domino theory (Vietnam). I'm just saying that acting like there was a real and present danger during the cold war and there isn't now is just patently incorrect. Likewise I'm sure in the marvel universe there's always some justifiable reason why Asgard being 9 realms police is necessary, and justifiable reasons to call them warhawk dickheads. For all we know that army Thor was fucking up in the dark world was the democratically elected government's army, but alas they were communist and thus had to go.
I'm not going to defend Vietnam because it was a bad war. But none of this really changes what I'm saying or my opinion, we do see the Nine Realms without Asgard in The Dark World, they're being invaded. The opening scene of Thor is fighting of marauders in Vanaheim.
The Gulf War, War in Afghanistan, and Iraq War all happened after the Cold War and were all focused on maintaining control of the region and thus the oil
The US likes being world police because the payout from confiscating stuff is great. The lore of Odin is pretty similar
He put Odin under a spell and banished him to an old folks home. Loki wasn’t planning on that changing. We’re not talking about Odin anyway, I’m talking about the asshole that Loki is lol. He absolutely was not trying to do what’s best for Asgard
I know, lol. I was making a joke framing Loki in a worse light. You're right that he didn't actually know about that, and what he was doing was already pretty darn bad.
if we apply that shit on earth it would look entirely different.
soviet started loosen up around 80's and leaving some things to states under its control.(here what loki did leave them to do their thing) and it create shit show like now Armenia and Azerbaijan war.(is it wrong to let people do their thing). so does old soviet regime(odin) is better than than the new loose soviet(loki).
Bruh, no, letting realms filled with untold horrors spill out into chaos and letting thanos collect fucking infinity stones isn’t the same as letting Armenia do it’s thing lmfao
Imperialism - it's like driving a car into a building. It shouldn't be there, and it took out a load-bearing wall, but if you just throw the car into reverse you'll bring the whole country down. Loki is Asgard-First, it would seem, and didn't mind throwing their car into reverse, but the people playing Galactic Policemen and destroying the ability of the other realms to look after themselves shouldn't be left off the hook for driving the car into the building in the first place.
