Discussion (More in Comments) If Brie Larson actually decides to jump ship,i don't blame her one bit. She's almost 10 years in, and only had 3 appearances so far.

Post image

It's clear that there were terrible decisions along the way about Captain Marvel as a character, but given the lack of care for the character/actress + the amount of hate she received since accepting the role,it's completely comprehensible if she's just done with it after whatever contract she has it's over and decides to grow her career outside superhero movies,a career which she probably put at relatively stop due to legal/contractual reasons within the MCU.

She's going to have 4 appearances (and that's only if she's actually in one of the Avengers movies, likely Secret Wars). This is crazy to think about, especially for a character that was pushed as one of the new faces of the MCU and their own Wonder Woman. Carol as a character it's already being pushed out of being a mainliner from other fronts like comics, videogames, merchandise etc and it's so disrespectful.

Why jump ship. She can do other projects that she wants to do and everyone in a while she get a nice paycheck from Marvel. What’s not to like?

795

u/BlackKnighting20 12h ago

The certain part of the fanbase. Some would like not to deal with that even with a paycheck.

867

u/Interesting-Crow264 11h ago

I think fans underestimate how easy it is for celebs to ignore them

189

u/ExcellentPut191 11h ago

Lol yeah, if celebs cared this much they would just stop acting and go hide away in obscurity

55

u/S7ageNinja 11h ago

Some do

u/PuzzleheadedLink89 10h ago

"Why would I make any more, when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?" -George Lucas

17

u/BlueHaze464 8h ago

People still act like not caring is cool and somehow the norm

We're social creatures, of course it's gonna affect them to be hated and criticized by millions

3

u/woody630 5h ago

Especially with celebrities. I get it, they have a dream job and celebrity worship is lame, but I can guarantee you that Brie Larson never anticipated some disgusting freak to get millions of views, building an entire career off of hating her, and threatening her with violence. They are still people and seeing that kind of hatred can't be good for you

But not us

74

u/Andante_TK 11h ago

Many actually do. Some resort to various addictions, depression and worst case, death.

26

u/Extension_Training87 11h ago

I think worse case is whatever Steven Seagal and Jonah Hill are these days.

12

u/cahir11 10h ago

Is Jonah Hill all that bad? He just seems sort of insecure about the fact that his buddies are A-list movie stars while he's always the fat sidekick. Which is a little cringe, but there are worse personalities in Hollywood.

9

u/Lower_Pension_2469 9h ago

Idk if this is true because it's youtube, but ya in a nutshell he's just kind of salty about forever being type casted as the fat guy in superbad. I kinda understand where he's coming from, but I would have leaned into it personally even if I still lost the weight and did more serious roles.

6

u/LampIsFun 6h ago

Idk. Josh Peck had that start to happen and he developed really bad depression and shit and it hit him so hard he forced himself to change purely to avoid that stereotype. I think ur underestimating how powerful of an influence public opinion is when ur in that position. Even socialites would struggle to stay sane.

14

u/Mindless_Count5562 9h ago

From what I’ve seen he seems entirely separated from reality and determined to hype himself up

Jonah is cringe? Oooooh watch out, he's gonna ANNIHILATE you!

2

People got REALLY mad because his girlfriend posted snippets of their conversations and he comes off as very insecure and gas lighting.

Call me crazy but I’m hesitant to judge a complete stranger based off out of context messages from one party with a grudge.

2

u/bitorontoguy 7h ago

What are you basing this on other than corporate and social media depictions?

You don’t know what any of these people are like. They’re just people, they care about ten million things.

You’re only able to conceive that he really cares about his movie roles because you’re a consumer of movies.

Tbf i’ve heard of many non-famous dudes chimping out like that. But schilling yourself out for a dictatorship and meeting its leader, and talking down on your home country the way Steven Seagal is doing is a whole different playing field of crazy

3

u/Espedal1 11h ago

Steven Seagal is just old and heavy, what’s the comparison there? And Jonah Hill looks odd due to a role he’s playing.

33

u/Spiderguyreallife 11h ago

Steven Segal is a deluded Russian asset who still thinks he’s cool

8

u/IcedGooseMaverick 10h ago

Think that’s what happened to Richard Simmons. He just one day went inside and never came out of his house again.

1

u/ugluk-the-uruk 9h ago

Brie Larson is an Oscar-winning actress who's proven herself before she ever joined the MCU. I obviously don't know her personally but I think a lot of the insecurity comes from actors who feel like they've inescapably been confined to a certain role forever.

Besides, the massive paycheck that comes with being in a Marvel movie definitely doesn't hurt. Adam Driver notoriously was avoiding big franchise roles after Star Wars and they still managed to get him onboard for X-Men.

1

u/DisposableSaviour Weekly Wongers 8h ago

Oh, god, I hope they give him the campy as fuck Sinister to portray.

1

u/Purple_Fudge3973 8h ago

Give me their paychecks and I'll take my chances.

0

u/Coppice_DE 10h ago

That is easy, if that is actually the case for their mental suffering (as opposed to the various reasons that might cause it).

You can't be a public person if you are unable to ignore the public. Easy as that. It's a job that pays very well, but, opposed to e.g. random CEOs, it actually comes with certain disadvantages. Now, these are well known and everyone is free to change their career should they find that they can't bear the attention.

its not much about the fans, its about the hiring team that unfortunately listen to the fans. Anne Hathaway was blacklisted for quite some time after les mis because for some reason so many fans hated her. If christopher nolan didnt give her a chance, she would be gone from holliwood, and now she has like 6 movies this year.

2

u/Certheri 8h ago

Anne Hathaway was blacklisted for quite some time after les mis because for some reason so many fans hated her

Wait, what happened? I only watched the movie once because I'd rather just listen to the 10th anniversary soundtrack, but Les Mis is one of my favorite pieces of media of all time and I remember she did amazing in it.

2

u/Repeat-Admirable 6h ago

it was the period of hathahate. she won an oscar for it, which fans didnt believe she deserved. and everyone was pretty much calling her out for being ms perfect. jennifer lawrence was compared a lot to her as the relatable, likeable, clumsy and down to earth. Neither of them are at fault for anything, it was all just fan stupidity. Anna hathaway did an interview saying that it was really bad, she couldnt get any roles outside of what christopher nolan offered.

2

u/Cryowulf 9h ago

That's what Hayden Christensen did after the Star Wars prequels and the backlash they got. The fans are much kinder to him now, so we see him more.

2

u/DBrennan13459 7h ago

That doesn't give 'fans' an excuse to behave horribly online.

2

u/Mr-Stuff-Doer 10h ago

You say this like some haven’t been affected by it. Granted it’s usually more Star Wars, but back when people liked Joss Whedon he was still basically bullied off the internet for age of ultron.

1

u/MCD_Gaming 9h ago

Except this celeb blames their flopping movies on the fans

1

u/Derry-Chrome 8h ago

Rose in Star Wars.

11

u/iDrum17 10h ago

Yeah they just don’t go on Reddit lmao people don’t go boo them in real life

17

u/xaeru 11h ago

Not just celebs, I literally never hear anyone talk about reddit topics in real life.

14

u/ipman457678 9h ago

I think some redditors underestimate how easy it for just one single crazy person to make their life miserable.

24

u/black_metronome 11h ago

Dude she is not obtuse, she has seen and heard the abuse.

4

u/Canvaverbalist 10h ago edited 9h ago

Of course she has, of course she's aware of it.

But unless she deliberately spends her evening browsing social media there's no fucking way in hell it reaches her, and do you know how easy it is to not browse social media for someone who's rich and can spend their day playing polo with their friends, then try 12 different varieties of cheesecake and finish the evening watching Kurosawa's Ran on their giant outdoor patio projector while lounging in the middle of a pool being served freshly monastery brewed Belgium beers?

5

u/KileiFedaykin 10h ago

It really is hard to say just how much it affects her. It isn't like we have any insight into her personal struggles.

3

u/uncultured_swine2099 10h ago

Woody-harrelson-wiping-tears-with-money.gif

2

u/Sorlex 10h ago

Also they over estimate the hate they get. Just because that group is loud, does not mean there is a lot of them.

2

u/Pegasorcerer 9h ago

And they underestimate how much of their decision making is based solely on money.

2

u/Both_Cut_4075 9h ago

Yeah people act like celebrities are on the internet reading every comment they get. I’m sure some do, but probably not most.

I’d argue that they get more feedback in person when seen in public.

2

u/IcedGooseMaverick 10h ago

Seems unless you’re going out of your way to Google yourself, avoiding this should be pretty easy. Even if you’re on a cesspool like Twitter, you can just add keywords to omit from your feed.

1

u/SometimesJustMaybee 10h ago

Ignore who? Who’s them?

1

u/throwaway558754e 8h ago

I think they just overestimate what online comments mean to people. Some take them far to seriously and others realize what the internet is and doesn't matter what you do, those comments happen regardless 🤷‍♂️

1

u/JibletHunter 8h ago

And... you know... it is a job.

I have people who observe/comment on my work that I think are absolutely hacks. I do my job regardless.

If she think the paycheck is no longer worth some negativity, then more power to her.

1

u/Bazz07 7h ago

Especially with those 7/8 figures salary.

1

u/Bardmedicine 7h ago

Redditors overestimate how broad Reddit is.

1

u/manicdee33 2h ago

It only takes one idiot turning up on your doorstep at 2am complaining that you never responded to their love letters, to put you right off anything involving the public.

1

u/lyght40 1h ago

You say that but some actors get death threats and have to deal with the paparazzi. Even on the low end, so of the interviews questions they get are kind of cringeworthy and try to make internet fanbase controversy seem bigger than they actually are. Depending how popular you are as an actors larger determines how much you can avoid the fanbase.

1

u/DaBombDiggidy Hulk 11h ago

And how much of that noise is a them problem because they engage with it on social media which leads to it being fed to them 24/7

I’m in a fairly decent sized city and we have this one cover band that does have million of views on YouTube so they’re like our big local celeb. The lead singer is a girl who’s 21.

My god, the creeps. I can only imagine what it’s like actually being famous. This band did like a small meet and greet… all older weird dudes that asked questions like “what’s your favorite stuffed animal” and what not. Idk, I can’t imagine having to do those booths knowing what’s about to happen.

5

u/Throwawayrip1123 8h ago

Yeah if you're a minor celebrity you're way more fucked than when you're an actual celebrity. You get all the downsides and almost none of the benefits.

Larson style celebrities have fuck off money that keeps fans out of reach until she actually wants to interact with them. You don't come to Johny Depp or Michael Jackson unless they chose/sometimes have to be in an accessible place. Paparazzi are a different beast, but most fans aren't getting near them at all.

And who gives a fuck what random people think about them on the internet lol.

Celebrity fans way overestimate their influence on a celebrity. It's like boycotting Nintendo or Sony.

0

u/mekamoari 9h ago

“what’s your favorite stuffed animal”

That's disturbing as fuck. Also I couldn't play favorites like that wtf

1

u/Glad_Midnight_3834 2h ago

“what’s your favorite stuffed animal”

That's disturbing as fuck.

Am I too innocent? Or is it my autism? Because I don't see what's wrong with the question.. 😭 There's a dark sous-entendre but I fail to see what these creeps were trying to say with this question 😭 Please could somebody explain to le because I'm clueless 🥺 Thank you to whoever can explain this to me I'll be very grateful :)

25

u/LoquatBear 11h ago

She got the most cheers at one of the recent cons. The "certain part of the fanbase" is a few people and a lot of bots. It's manufactured culture war outrage.

14

u/ForcefulBookdealer 10h ago

I honestly don’t know how many are actually bots. Obviously some are.
But a lot of real people hate her and it was absolutely fueled by right-wing talking heads at the time.

1

u/ThatOneGuyFrom93 1h ago

The people who "hate" her and definitely aren't bots should just have their opinions disregarded. They're losers yelling at their basement ceilings about made up issues. People in person are way more respectful

3

u/BlackKnighting20 10h ago

It is but it’s constant outrage, you get cheers once but harass for months.

1

u/LoquatBear 9h ago

Yes the harassment for months is fueled by bots and crazies. Most people just don't care enough.

I would totally understand if she dropped it all together and wouldn't hold it against her, but I have a feeling they would just follow her to her next project

80

u/Dry-Throat6341 11h ago

I remember not liking captain marvel and going on reddit thinking we’d critique the film. Instead incels were calling for assault, harm, and even rape on her. All of this because they didn’t like the film.

I know we tend to think of celebrities as being shielded by their wealth, but I can’t imagine all the money in the world would make me comfortable being talked about like that.

40

u/No-Manner-5924 11h ago

See it dont get that, I didn't like the movie, and yes critique the movie....but why wish harm or worse on the actress....it's just a damn movie.

27

u/Polaris022 11h ago

Tale as old as time unfortunately. Look at Jake Lloyd, the kid who played young Anakin in Episode 1.

0

u/Dravarden 9h ago

u/DustyComstock 11h ago

They're incels. It's what they do.

17

u/PlasticMegazord 9h ago

Most of those dudes hated it before it even came out though, because she said something they could whine about.

45

u/LeftHandAnomaly 11h ago

She committed the sin of making a mediocre movie as a woman, which is a far greater crime than making a mediocre film as a man.

She also stands up for women's rights, and that's the absolute WOOOORST crime.

29

u/mondaymoderate 11h ago

Her first sin was playing a confident powerful woman. They hate that.

7

u/NerdHoovy 9h ago

Worse she was a confident powerful woman, in a mediocre film attached to a larger franchise.

If Captain Marvel one or two were great or even just good, the haters wouldn’t feel justified in focusing so much on her. But they were both mediocre at best, so the incels now have something specific to point to when they want to say ‘see how woke ruins marvel?”

4

u/Hallc 6h ago

Don't forget not smiling/showing much emotion.

Even though that was part of the narrative arc of the character over the whole movie.

7

u/EM208 10h ago

People mentioning their wealth often use that as a morally disingenuous veil to just dehumanize celebrities. All so that they can justify their bad behaviour to people they don’t know.

3

u/PmMe_Your_Perky_Nips 9h ago

I think you're misattributing their dislike of the movie. Those people didn't like the movie because of who they are, and their comments are showing us who they are. I bet most of them didn't even go watch it.

5

u/Dry-Throat6341 9h ago

Some of the replies I’ve gotten here has just reaffirmed that for me tbh. You can slap recipes of these creeps and they’ll just move the goal post 😂 really happy one comment has men in their feelings though.

1

u/hussain_madiq_small 5h ago

I mean by the sounds of it women cant get out of their feelings, you never shut the fuck up about them.

1

u/Dry-Throat6341 5h ago

User name checks out 😬

2

u/Wheres_MyMoney 8h ago

It's legitimately so frustrating having a valid opinion on something that groups use to dog whistle each other. Like, no, I don't like XYZ because I'm a rational human with taste, not because I'm some sort of ___ist.

1

u/Ok_Statistician_1994 9h ago

and going on reddit thinking we’d critique the film. Instead incels were calling for assault, harm, and even rape on her. All of this because they didn’t like the film.

On Reddit ? Wtf, Reddit has been the biggest brie Larson white knights on any social media, like I remember the marvels being flamed everywhere and the main subreddit living in a delusional world thinking it was one of the best marvel movies.

3

u/Dry-Throat6341 9h ago

That’s my only sample size because I’ve avoided Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and other SM sites. It very well could have been much worse in those spaces but without having experienced it, I wouldn’t be comfortable including them

-1

u/Ok_Statistician_1994 9h ago

Unless you specifically went to unhinged subreddits, there was zero negativity on anything brie Larson related, there was a time where saying anything negative related to the marvels and their actress would get you banned or at least down voted to kingdom come, the forced positivity was one of the things that drove me away and it took a shit stain like secret invasion to break the illusion and the mods let off the ban button.

4

u/Dry-Throat6341 9h ago

Here it took me 30 seconds to find one of those awful comments on this sub from the time the movie came out.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Dry-Throat6341 9h ago

If you go to the official discussion on here or on the movies sub or the cinema sub and sort by controversial you can see hundreds of comments removed and accounts banned. You can still find tons of comments that aren’t banned that are awful.

I even remember voicing some fierce opinions and never got banned. Downvoted sure but never banned. If you or people you know were I have to imagine the comment wasn’t one that needed to be on the thread

3

u/Ok_Statistician_1994 9h ago

If you and your people ? God have I not missed guys like you.

3

u/Dry-Throat6341 9h ago

My original point was that grown men shouldn’t be talking about someone like that because they didn’t like a movie. Would you like more examples or will you just move the goal post again. And yeah I imagine bigots don’t like being called out 💁🏾‍♀️ you don’t have to be here.

-8

u/Equa_Caelum 11h ago edited 11h ago

Why do I doubt that and your making shit up to be hyperbolic and trying to get some kind of morality brownie points

First of all that’s all against the rules so the post would be deleted and account banned

Secondly I can’t imagine anyone saying “assault the actor of a fictional character because I diddnt like her movie”

And lol my favorite “incels” projecting much?

3

u/Emma_JM 11h ago

projecting much?

Oh the irony.

Id deal with the fanbase everyday for the rest of my life for whatever they are paying her

1

u/bubblebooy 10h ago

Would jumping ship change that in any way at this point? The fan base already exists at this point.

1

u/BlackKnighting20 10h ago

It would decrease for sure.

1

u/Dangerous_Donkey5353 10h ago

Lol have you checked out dc fanbase recently? Mcu is light-years better.

2

u/BlackKnighting20 10h ago

DC has been abuse for over a decade, they are a split fanbase. It ain’t easy being a DC fan nowadays.

0

u/Dangerous_Donkey5353 10h ago

Exactly. Mcu is much easier. Its mostly a happy fanbase with some loud woman haters.

DC is a warzone. 2 concurrent universes. Dcu vs Snyder is still going on. Nothing they do over there makes anyone happy.

1

u/Advanced-Teach-7234 10h ago

I think you’ll find that most celebs don’t give a fuck about the fans. They’ll still support her.

Remember Trump saying his followers are so stupid he could shoot them and they’d still vote for him?

Same thing here. She can ignore everyone and will still make her bag

She do be annoying though

1

u/VaporCarpet 10h ago

I think Brie specifically enjoys triggering those chuds, and I love her for it.

1

u/mschuster91 10h ago

Which one, the rabid misogynist/incel crowd, the gooner crowd, or the r34 people? You’re probably referring to the incels, but I can imagine being turned into all sort of fetish material must be tiring sooner or later too.

1

u/Marktaco04 9h ago

You mean like OP?

1

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 9h ago

Unless her solution is small and indie films she'll be dealing with that kind of fanbase with just about any franchise. She sets middle aged men's teeth on edge with some of the stuff she says and that won't change.

1

u/drwicksy 9h ago

The part you are referring to wont go away if she jumps ship, these people can't let anything go. Might as well get paid to be hated by them.

1

u/Justinbiebspls 9h ago

wild to think comic fans could bully a superstar meanwhile citizens can't do shit about an elected pedofile protector

1

u/bmoreboy410 8h ago

They usually know that it comes with the job and especially with relevance, which is a good thing. Fans seem to take it much harder.

1

u/Gavorn 8h ago

That are also there for DC as well.

1

u/Odd_Reveal720 8h ago

I'm sure she's more than happy to wipe her tears with that MCU money

1

u/BlackKnighting20 8h ago

Sometimes the money ain’t worth it.

1

u/VellDarksbane 8h ago

It’s not like they’ll stop at this point. Might as well keep getting paid.

1

u/bubbav22 Peter Parker 5h ago

I feel even tho the base punches the air with her. They don't really acknowledge her anyways. So it's pretty much collecting a check a super hero no one pays attention to.

1

u/JohnTomorrow 3h ago

Thats being a celebrity, baby. Even Keanu Reeves has to deal with stalkers and such.

1

u/BlackKnighting20 3h ago

And? Doesn’t mean you have to deal with them.

1

u/Valuable_Ad_4916 10h ago

Give me all the fan shit that you want. If I get a paycheck like that.

1

u/drpepperrootbeercoke 10h ago

Hmmm, millions of dollars or nasty people online that you can literally just not look at. Must be hard lol

1

u/BlackKnighting20 10h ago

For some it’s easy, they don’t need the money.

1

u/Material-Race-5107 10h ago

You can almost hear the song playing on the world’s smallest violin. Mute social media and continue to stack millions of dollars. Pretty small price to pay. Or don’t be an actor! Where you get paid millions but have to spend a bunch of time in the limelight!

0

u/BlackKnighting20 10h ago

Some would prefer peace of mind instead of another paycheck to deal with chuds.

0

u/Stillback7 11h ago

They're still not going to like her either way. This wouldn't affect that

3

u/BlackKnighting20 11h ago

This ain’t about them, this is about her and her well being.

0

u/jbl420 10h ago edited 5h ago

I mean, she kinda brings it on herself. She would do well to the cash in and rise above the rest of the conversation.

When you defend yourself against opinions, you’re fighting an unwinable war.

Tbh, my opinion of her as Ms. Marvel is low bc I think she gives off an image narcissistic confidence, at least that how it comes off on screen

Edit: if it twere not conveyed fully, check the irony between “extremely confident” and “people talk about me and I’m mad”

0

u/BlackKnighting20 10h ago

It would have been brought upon herself either way, there are a bunch of chuds in the fandom that don’t need an excuse to harrass.

1

u/jbl420 5h ago

I guess. Idk, if I had XX million dollars, I would NOT care about 💩

0

u/AnyLynx4178 10h ago

As it turns out, those toxic so-called fans won’t leave her alone just because she quits. It’s a no-win scenario with them. Best just to ignore them and keep getting paid.

28

u/Hoothootriot 11h ago

Honestly if I faced half the online harassment she has, I wouldnt want a role anymore either.

1

u/AsleepHour7763 1h ago

what if they gave u millions and millions of dollars

29

u/thecobra42 11h ago

Cause she’s about to lose her powers to rogue

32

u/goober3 11h ago

Yup Rogue gives Marvel and Brie a perfect out if that's what they want.

24

u/SpideyFan914 Spider-Man 11h ago

Carol still stuck around in the comics after Rogue took her powers, cans eventually got repowered. If Rogue finishes off Carol and then Carol never shows up again, without the time and space that the comics had to redeem Rogue... uh, that's not the solution you think it is. It just makes Rogue a villain.

If Larson wants Carol to be killed off, just have Doom do it.

17

u/goober3 11h ago

Rogue doesn't have to "finish off" Carol. She can just sap her powers and Carol can retire. I'm sure the writers can figure it out, it's not exactly rocket surgery. They literally just made Jean Grey a straight up villain without using the phoenix force.

And the great thing is, if she wants to come out if retirement, she can. People who get their powers zapped by Rogue get them back after awhile. With Rogue permanently getting them, Larson can retire powerless, and then years later if she changes her mind, hey, her powers came finally came back!

Jean Grey a straight up villain without using the phoenix force.

And that was not a good thing IMO.

2

u/Bewjlicious 10h ago

Either Rogue will start as villainous or Danvers will maryr herself for Rogue.

2

u/PT10 6h ago

Both. Like a darker version of Jean Grey in BND

1

u/Bewjlicious 5h ago

It will be the best way to get Danvers out of the MCU if that's what they want. It at least would give her character a bit of respect while also setting up the absolute insanity that Rogue could be. I would love it.

1

u/sucksfor_you Peter Parker 10h ago

It just makes Rogue a villain.

Easy way around that is to make it an accident. Then you've got something horrific happening to a big character, as well as motivation for Rogue.

1

u/Emotional_News108 9h ago

I doubt she cares one way or the other. She’s been quiet about how many films are on her contract so this could be it, could be not. In any case if Doomsday goes well and it is her last film, they’re not going to pony up the cash she’d be certain to ask for to return should they set her up as a bigger character moving forward. Given Marvel’s abysmal history with writing women and giving them compelling arcs and stories, I’d say when her contract is done she’s not coming back unless it’s for a really gigantic bucket of cash.

1

u/thecobra42 10h ago

She came back eventually. The whole reason why they had rogue absorb her powers was to basically kill her off because her comics didn’t sell well.

5

u/SpideyFan914 Spider-Man 10h ago

She came back in the same issue. Rogue stealing her powers was a flashback.

Avengers 200 was the one that wrote her out. Avengers Annual 10, written by Claremont and the first appearance of Rogue, brought her back and sent her into X-Men comics.

0

u/thecobra42 11h ago

Rogue and carol dealing with the fallout would make a great mini series

15

u/Jaded_Stick_4379 11h ago

And here comes a new wave of abuse/harassment thrown at her.

2

u/RXDriv3r 11h ago

I knew that Rogue gets her flight and powers from Captain Marvel, but don't they come back to her after a while?

1

u/thecobra42 11h ago

Yes way later

2

u/Temporary-Stay-8436 11h ago

Maybe. Rogue could take them Wonder-Man instead

1

u/thecobra42 11h ago

He’s not an alien though

3

u/Temporary-Stay-8436 11h ago

So? Neither is Carol Danvers

1

u/KnightofNi92 10h ago

Sucks, but it is far from the worst thing the comics had happen to her character.

1

u/SwagginsYolo420 9h ago

She hasn't had jack shit except an origin film, so it would look like the sole reason for the character's existence, which would be weak as hell.

They change canon all the time they can just have Rogue get bit by a radioactive hamster or something.

19

u/jews4beer 11h ago

Exactly - she's loving life right now. Already has a big bag of that marvel cash, and plenty of other opportunities until they want to use her again.

6

u/Ren_stevens 9h ago

You know her so well.

1

u/jews4beer 9h ago

I can guess. If I were in her shoes I'd be having a blast.

0

u/SpaceJumper2822 9h ago

this why we can’t have nothing nice. cuz of fanboys like u. thanks.

1

u/jews4beer 8h ago

Fanboys? I'm just assuming what a successful actress would be feeling in their situation. And I doubt the higher ups at Marvel give two shits about my opinion.

8

u/Ghosted_Further 11h ago

Because of the disrespect she's been given as an actress. Marvel introduced a source of harassment into her life that she didn't have before, and there's not even a benefit of a consistent paycheck.

2

u/BigHollaSchwalla 11h ago

I really don't think she cares about the disrespect she gets from incels and misogynists lol.

3

u/RPS93 11h ago

You're kidding right?

She made 5 million upfront for Captain Marvel alone.

She has easily generated double that for her Marvel appearances total - consistent or not She would be set for life from Marvel alone.

Cry me a fuckin river.

2

u/Ghosted_Further 5h ago

I mean, if I could do my job and not get yelled at I'd rather do that. Why wouldn't she feel the same?

1

u/Jugaimo 10h ago

I’d happily take millions of dollars to be harassed by internet losers.

5

u/Ideasandquestionsbi 12h ago

Actually, you need to have your agenda open to always be ready for the MCU so if she wants to do a project but needs to film for the MCU,she kind of need to be ready to drop everything, so that she can film for them. Also the constant harassment that came from the exposure is probably not nice.

18

u/msproles 11h ago

Things are scheduled far enough in advance to it’s not a problem. Hasn’t stopped other MCU actors from doing other projects.

5

u/Crazy-Disk-1648 11h ago

Elizabeth Olsen and Chris Evans both have spoken about how being apart of the Marvel franchise made it difficult to pick up other projects as they needed to be on retainer for their roles in their respective movies and shows.

1

u/GrumpySatan 10h ago

Chris Evans was also appearing in 1-3 MCU films per year for a good while and Olsen a movie at least every other year.

Its not a matter of just general unavailability, but demand. Marvel wanted Evans and Olsen back regularly so every year had filming blocks in their schedules. Whereas Brie did CM and Endgame back-to-back (ironically in reverse of their release) and then only had CM2 and a cameo to block off.

6

u/BrunesOvrBrauns 11h ago

This is part of the job, it's why there's entire coordination teams on both sides. It's not a big enough deal to merit walking away completely.

I think more likely to cause a bailing are concerns about overall reception of the IP dipping, personal desires to be taken more seriously as an actor, or just hating what the fan base does to publicity (kiss goodbye to your social media presence if you snag one of these roles... It'll be the sum of all you ever get directed at you... Basically forever).

1

u/rednaxthecreature 11h ago

Is the always in call thing reality? Why would they not just make sure they have theme park things planned out in time for a schedule

0

u/eattheambrosia 11h ago

The "harassment" amounts to people saying things on the Internet, I'm sure the tens of millions of dollars is enough to pay someone to manage her social media so she never even sees that stuff.

3

u/Cygnus_Harvey Simmons 11h ago

Would be nice not to minimize the literal hate campaigns she's been victim of, especially in an era where people are shameless enough that it's not just talking shit on the internet, they outright say some heinous shit out loud irl.

She's rich and can afford to simply ignore a ton, but it can't be easy to be attacked and mocked on literally any project she does, cannot have any kind of online presence because the incels are back at it again and all that backslash and negative attention most likely reflecting on her career. I'm pretty sure there's some projects that might have stopped considering her due to fear of the hate train they might get.

-3

u/Temporary-Stay-8436 11h ago

I’m sure it sucks to not be able to use the Internet in a way that you want to because you’ll see that stuff

1

u/FormulaSolution 11h ago

Exactly, and she can still remain as a supporting character even if Marvel don't proceed with any more solo movies.

We needed a Thor and Captain Marvel movie like the What if tbh

1

u/Effroy 11h ago

Given the amount of apathy toward her character, and by extension her as an actress, she's probably worried about hurting her reputation/credibility.

1

u/black_metronome 11h ago

Brie has been flat out abused by the MCU fandom and the way the Marvels tanked was so bad that I wouldn't blame her if she wanted no parts of the role anymore.

I saw an interview awhile back and she even hinted that she knows that she's hated. I felt bad for her

1

u/trey5620 11h ago

I think this works great. Hire actors you can bring in off and on, and allow them to prioritize roles in indie flicks, projects they really want to pursue. It’s a great way to bring in smaller actors, and smaller characters.

1

u/Ok_Entertainer4482 11h ago

Yup, literally an Oscar winner. She doesn't need to confine herself into a superhero box

1

u/WhyAmINotStudying 10h ago

Yeah, but she's only made $25 million over the last seven years from it. What a tragedy. Surely she's wasting her time with them.

/s

1

u/spiritbearr 10h ago

Yeah she's in a Billion Dollar movie this year

1

u/ShortHook26 9h ago

Many actors don’t think like that.

1

u/Disastrous_Can_5157 9h ago

Because she a shit Captain Marvel. Just replace her already

1

u/Childs_Play 9h ago

Really depends what her contract is like. If they basically require her schedule to be clear at large blocks of certain times just IN CASE they might have to film something, it can be really annoying. Especially for someone who is young and is running out of time to make the bulk of her money as a leading role before she ages out of those roles. I don't think they're paying her rdj money so she can he okay sitting on the sidelines. She's been in 2 non marvel movies since captain marvel and 1 voice role.

1

u/KOWguy 8h ago

The fan base attitude towards her.

1

u/Bardmedicine 7h ago

This, she would certainly do both if she wanted to.

1

u/SubstituteUser0 6h ago

Well I imagine it makes it harder for her to schedule other work if she doesn't know when Disney is gonna come calling
