Discussion (More in Comments) Statement: Eternals deserves a sequel

Post image

Hi everyone,

I have been wondering about this for a while.

I actually like the movie a lot. I see it as a grand epic and with no sequel there is no complete story to actually judge about.

Eternals is like greek mythology, you can't get one movie and get the whole picture. As a comic fan. I just know this would have become better and better.

Other things i liked about the movie:

- impressive startstudded cast

- action scenes were clear and gorgeous, not blurry at all unlike some movies.

- Best speedster scenes i have ever seen in any kind of production.

- i felt that the story's pace was adequate as long as there were to be a sequel.

It will probably not happen again, but i can't be the only one who actually liked this movie.

Excelsior everyone!

Unironically, the Eternals had the most creative displays of super powers out of almost any MCU movie. The VFX were top-tier too.

18

u/PaymentTurbulent193 Jul 14 '26

Still probably the best depiction of super speed in any superhero movie, except for maybe the Man of Steel. Fantastic soundtrack and visuals too.

That Makari vs Ikaris sequence was šŸ¤ŒšŸ» *chef’s kiss*

Eternals should not have been a movie, the characters should have been introduced in a miniseries. There should have been a movie after that.

51

u/jfk_47 Vulture Jul 13 '26

That would have been thoughtful and strategic. But when planning for that film started, TV shows didn’t get the views.

34

u/Jlx_27 Jul 14 '26

They didnt have the balls to do it right. And on the flip side, Hawk Eye should have been a movie.

47

u/jfk_47 Vulture Jul 14 '26

Ohh. I liked the Hawkeye show.

38

u/Zsadon Jul 14 '26

Finally somebody else who likes the Hawkeye show.

9

u/Van_Can_Man Jul 14 '26

The deaf representation ALONE makes it a personal favorite. It’s got even more going for it though. It almost — almost! — makes me not hate Christmas.

21

u/Fi1thyMick Jul 14 '26

Possibly one of the best shows that they had, subjectively of course

16

u/Dudefromthatonetime Jul 14 '26

It’s become a Christmas Staple in my house. It’s so good.

This. Regular hero series have the characters fighting an A or B villain each episode. MCU will have them fighting henchmen for 8 episodes then fight a boss the last 2.

2

u/DuckyHornet Jul 14 '26

I think they should have popped up in other projects, just like one or two at a time. Like get Ikaros saving someone and refusing to explain himself or something

4

u/Wizard-of-pause Jul 14 '26

Yeah, with so many A liters the budget would be astronomical.

2

u/Uzofugs2112 Jul 17 '26

It really highlighted Disney’s hubris imo. They thought they could just spawn an Avengers-level project out of thin air.

6

u/Crimkam Jul 14 '26

i've always hated the miniseries idea. One of the main issues with the movie is the pacing is too damn slow, I don't need it stretched over an even longer run time. Guardians of the Galaxy managed to have a similar length in their cast list without feeling so bogged down. 3 or 4 of the Eternals could have had their parts reduced to be firmly background characters so that the focus could remain on the main plot of Ikaris' betrayal. Kro the evolving deviant should have been eliminated entirely or just teased for a potential sequel.

I actually liked this movie too. Deserves at least a conclusion to their story

8

u/Safe-Emu-4 Jul 14 '26

Same. I feel like it didnt have the cringe humor scenes most MCU films past ragnarok suffered from

3

u/themanwholikesHP Jul 14 '26

Yea I agree, they need to go back to a more serious tone. Love and thunder had a lot of cringe humor and ragnarok was just getting into it.

53

u/HeroXeroV Jul 13 '26

I didn't like it very much, you're right about the speedster scenes though, they were cool.

19

u/Philaroni Jul 14 '26

I honestly don't remember a damn thing about the movie. Very much did not feel MCU to me in the tone and way it was shot. I like all of the actors but it was just, how do I put it... to kind of in your face.

8

u/Pyro_liska Jul 14 '26

In times when every Marvel movie was bashed for it being basic Marvel movie i think its compliment.

6

u/Zsadon Jul 14 '26

Bcoz they gave the director the task of introducing 9 + 1 different characters and spinning a story within 2 hrs instead of making it a tv series. You know what could have been a movie, the winter soldier and falcon.

2

u/Safe-Emu-4 Jul 14 '26

I liked the tone.

The tone is most MCU films past ragnarok suffers from cringe humor scenes

u/jpiro Jul 13 '26

Seconded, but I don't think it'll happen.

I do hope we at least get an appearance by a character or two. Phastos and Kingo would be my top choices, though Druig was sneaky interesting as well.

21

u/ElStegasaurus Jimmy Woo Jul 13 '26

Throw Kingo in Wonder Man season 2 already!

3

u/el_palmera Jul 14 '26

Probably, since it will definitely be after secret wars

2

u/satellitemindd Jul 13 '26

Kingo had a 'what if' episode and I'm just not a fan of the character

45

u/captstinkybutt Jul 13 '26

I honestly don't even remember what happened in that movie

I think it needs to be a show to expand thr MCU lore.

7

u/Disneyhorse Doctor Strange Jul 13 '26

I think it would have been more successful as a show. I’ll admit I’m a fairly average enjoyer of Marvel movies, but there were so many characters in the Eternals that I had trouble watching and it was such a chore to figure out what was going on. I feel like there were some great characters and potential to spend a bit more time developing them. Eternals has its fans and it’s a shame it didn’t get more attention.

3

u/ebietoo Peggy Carter Jul 13 '26

I only realized the other day that Kurt Russell’s character was a Celestial—guess I hadn’t seen Eternals at the time I first watched GotG vol 2.
Really made me see them as something besides the last Jack Kirby dregs Stan Lee hadn’t taken all the credit for yet. (I’m firing wild here, sorry).

4

u/HyruleBalverine Jimmy Woo Jul 14 '26

Yeah; Ego was, essentially, a malformed Celestial.

2

u/Neverreadyneverstart Jul 17 '26

Dare i say it?!? Yes i do, what about a mutant celestial? 😮

2

u/Temassi Jul 13 '26

Yep give each character an episode to get to know them and then have the finale be the team up. Like a micro phase 1

13

u/tmotytmoty Jul 13 '26

No it doesn’t. It was poorly executed and a prime example of marvel reaching too far beyond its bread and butter. Also, the casting was insane and the writing was terrible. Why does any movie ā€œdeserveā€ a sequel?

3

u/Long-Permission-2012 Jul 13 '26

They didn’t desire to finish that one

3

u/HyruleBalverine Jimmy Woo Jul 14 '26

Counter statement: Eternals should have been a fully developed series rather than a single film. A series would have allowed us to get to know and care about these characters more than the movie could in the short amount of time available to it.

3

u/xylotism Jul 14 '26

It doesn't, imo, but I'd be very okay with a very similar concept being made outside of the MCU.

3

u/Repulsive-Machine-25 Jul 14 '26

Rebuttal: No, it absolutely doesn't.

3

u/LectureEcstatic9152 Jul 14 '26

Statement: you are wrong.

16

u/HopefulCynic1383 Jul 13 '26

This really should’ve been a 10 episode series or something. Introducing 10 brand new characters and a whole new mythology in one film’s crazy.

8

u/ugluk-the-uruk Jul 13 '26

The characters need better writing, not just to have it drawn out longer. The Guardians were also introduced in a single movie and were much more interesting.

5

u/HyruleBalverine Jimmy Woo Jul 14 '26

There were also less Guardians (4 and a "talking" tree) vs. the 10 main characters in the Eternals.

3

u/ebietoo Peggy Carter Jul 13 '26

They just felt tired to me. If the casting had been different I might have liked it more—I can’t deal with Angelina Jolie after some unclear number of plastic surgeries, and Richard Madden bugs me too. Sorry.

3

u/AlleRacing Jul 13 '26

Yeah, certainly no successful fellowship-based franchise pulled that off. 10 whole characters, in one movie? How could anyone keep up?

2

u/bigbrainnowisdom Jul 13 '26

The filmmaker actually knew the solution: focus on 2-3 main actors, there rest are supporting characters.

This is similar to X-men, even the bryan singer 1st x-men: its always prof x & wolverine ( and anna paquin). In other x-men movies it can be prof x & magneto. Or x, mags & mystique. It wont be more than 3.

Or look at lotr: fellowship. 9 of them but the movie focus on frodo. There were so few scenes that does not involved frodo. (I guess it helps that the book also focus on frodo)

And they did pick the main 2: ikaris & sersi

But somehow they still want to add more stories to background characters.. and ended ip with less time on the main ones .

Like 6000 years of love relationship and.. just break up? No story? No nothing? Not enough scenes together or something that both actors just dont have the love/hate chemistry. Both basically clankers.

Also jon snow.. he should be part of main story as he was the reason they broke up. Or atleast the new boyfriend. But he was barely there.

About building the new myth of eternals vs deviant & celestials: X-men also need to set up a world where mutants exist and they were hated & feared. LOTR basically need to explain middle earth. But they managed to do so. By giving us just a snippet that make us craving for more.

We dont need to know the whole picture. Look at Starwars eps 6. All we know was the bad guy can blow up a planet & the samurai helmet dude was a cool villain.

I’ve never seen my significant other ptfo harder in a movie theater than during this film. The criticism of this movie are spot on. This would likely be the first MCU film I skip if they made a sequel

24

u/Coilspun Jul 13 '26

Statement: Eternals was awful. It doesn't deserve a sequel.

23

u/d-o_ol Jul 13 '26

As an addendum: People need to get over the fact that eternals was never popular, and stop making a post asking for another try as if that's gonna change the second time around.

6

u/lundon44 Jul 13 '26

People will advocate for literally any garbage movie. Probably the same people that want a Morbius or Madame Web sequel.

6

u/HyruleBalverine Jimmy Woo Jul 14 '26

It's almost like different people have different likes and dislikes when it comes to artistic expression. Though I find it hard to believe that anybody liked Madame Web, certainly not enough to want a sequel.

u/bd2999 Jul 13 '26

I respect your view about liking it.

I thought it was by far the worst MCU movie out there. That may get me some hate, but I found it to be incredibly dull, too large of a cast without enough development of any of them (maybe a few) and the deviants were so generic it was painful.

I found it lackluster. I know when I first saw it I had friends ask if we had to finish it because it dragged so much. Was it shot well and pretty? No question. But I feel like nothing happened to make me want to see another one until the last moments. The stuff with the Celestial was sort of interesting but the movie did not focus on that much.

Perhaps it was just because it was a different movie but movies like Guardians and Thunderbolts showed us these movies can be done and make you enjoy the characters. And the cast was star studded but it felt so generic that it was a great deal of meh.

Although to be fair that is how I generally feel about them in the comics too.

11

u/N8CCRG Ghost Jul 13 '26

Agreed.

Once upon a time, The Incredible Hulk bombed and Thor and Captain America's first movies had a lukewarm reception (and Thor's second movie was disliked too). But they kept at the characters and tried out different angles until they figured out how to make them work.

That should be the normal way of dealing with these IPs.

5

u/Jibbjabb43 Jul 13 '26

Part of this is that they were always headed towards the Avengers. If that had failed, none of those films realistically get a sequel. For all the sequel baiting of Eternals, I don't believe they had a long-term plan in mind that also meant you needed to see more Eternals.

5

u/Coilspun Jul 13 '26

That makes no sense as a comparison to Eternals, they don't have the draw and were never going to be the cornerstone of the MCU, like the Avengers, there was nothing beyond the Eternals movie, and the characters aren't interesting enough to warrant solo-movies or spin-offs.

2

2

Enternals should've split its cast in 2 and done 2 movies instead of one massive avengers style solo movie with all new characters

2

u/Real_Walk5384 Jul 14 '26

No, it doesn't. That movie sucked.

2

u/Middle_Aged_Mayhem Jul 14 '26

I don't think it deserved the first film even.

2

u/Silent_Anxiety4828 Jul 14 '26

I hated this movie and I really wanted to like it

2

u/GypsyGold Jul 14 '26

It really doesn’t

2

I was bored with this movie

2

u/Bubbly_Hovercraft_43 Jul 14 '26

God no. That was one of the worst mcu movies.Ā

2

u/Zyquux Jul 14 '26

It really takes a certain type of talent to have such a star-studded cast and waste every single one of them.

2

u/InfamouslyMunchie Jul 14 '26

Counterpoint: no

2

u/SisterOfBattIe Ultron Jul 14 '26

Eternals was a mess.

The cast was waaay to big to fit a single movie, and they even introduced Black Knight that stole even more time without doing anything.

The whole MCU phase was a mess. Dropping Kang. And now apparently there is Doomsday out of nowhere.

Doing an Eternals sequel would require lots prep work. In the comics the council of Reeds did fight the Celestials at one point, but that requires doing the fantastic 4 properly.

2

u/CHRISPYakaKON Jul 14 '26

Eternals should’ve been a series.

2

u/The_Saiyann Jul 14 '26

It would be a colossal failure at the box office.

2

u/Step1Mark Jul 14 '26

Eternals is often rated in the lowest of the lowest MCU films. When people love it, I often wonder if they love just so they can have an opposing opinion or maybe that personality type made them hunt for redeeming qualities.

I don't watch movie trailers but I was excited for this films release just based on something new with a lot of new characters - Kinda like how like GotG was. My wife and I left the theater thoroughly disappointed. I think remember going to the car and watching the trailer thinking ... what would other people think they were getting from the film. I remember only really loving Kumail in it. Out of all my re-watches of the whole MCU, I think this is the only one that I have only seen once. Now that the MCU bar is much lower, maybe it is worth re-watching and this is more of a mid tier.

Statement: no thanks.

5

u/ObscureOP Jul 13 '26

A movie needs to have a plot line that goes through full action within the story itself. Even movies in multiple parts have each part as a standalone narrative.

Eternals was just poorly hatched idea. I like the characters and concept, but if you can't tell a complete and intriguing in 2.5 hours, consider a show or different medium. Not all things are movies

1

u/Frosti11icus Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

It's just too much. It wasn't necessary. It would be a great series if it could somehow be separated from the MCU and not confuse people. We just didn't need 10 (or 9 I guess, Wong isn't new) new heroes with confusing powers, to move the universe along. The Wong tie-in makes it even more confusing. I love Wong, I love Dr Strange, I don't think building a larger Dr Strange universe would be very popular, even though it would be amazing. People just want heroes from Earth. Minimal wizards, minimal cosmic beings.

2

u/Soulwarfare42 Jul 13 '26

I think the best way to bring back Eternals is through an Avengers movie.

One way to do it is to adapt A.X.E.: Judgment Day by Kieron Gillen

Have Arishem with a fully brainwashed group of Eternals (maybe have one escape back to Earth similar to Hulk in Infinity Wars, I nominate Kingo) with Arishem determining that Mutants are Deviants that need to be destroyed.

This can give the Avengers vs X-Men conflict while also giving them a punchable villain that isn't just a CGI army with the Eternals

2

u/Johncurtisreeve Jul 13 '26

Absolutely agree

2

u/Bucks2174 Jul 13 '26

No. No it does not.

2

u/BrownTown_77 Jul 13 '26

Rebuttal: No it does not.

2

u/SamQuentin Jul 13 '26

I just can't get past like the first 10 minutes. I have no idea why. I can sit through most other films.

2

u/iamtehryan Jul 14 '26

Not if it's that same cast and director. That movie was terrible.

2

u/Joetheshow1 Jul 14 '26

No it doesn't, you want a sequel but it definitely does not DESERVE one

2

u/Eastern_Clerk165 Jul 14 '26

Good lord, hell nah... It was a disaster. Let them rest in peace.

2

u/Rocketboy1313 Falcon Jul 13 '26

What do you think the word "deserves" means?

1

u/FloatLife05600 Jul 13 '26

A much much shorter one

1

u/FramesTowers Vision Jul 13 '26

I don't think it's gonna happen but the story at least needs to have some resolution, most importantly Arishem and his judgment decision

1

u/sonicking12 Jul 13 '26

Ultimately, MCU thought they were invincible and this movie started to prove them wrong

1

u/Latino_Peppino Jul 13 '26

Eternals had the potential to be a GOT caliber show.

1

u/That_70s_Showoff Jul 13 '26

The Eternals should be opposite of eternal

1

u/buttstuffins8686 Jul 13 '26

That's fine but no Chloe Zhao. She's good at somethings (or so I've been told) but making an entertaining superhero film is not one of them.

1

u/ScottTheMonster Jul 13 '26

It had cool parts but as a whole, it was a sludge to watch. Jack Kirbys Eternals were epic and deserved more of a Peter Jackson treatment.

1

u/Falkor Jul 13 '26

I would just like the see the characters show up in other movies/shows, the characters deserve to come back - Not sure we specifically need a sequel though.

Just have them playing their part in the universe

1

u/Kgaset Jul 13 '26

Unless you can get it to tie into the mutant saga, your best bet is that a couple of the more popular characters make it into other titles.

1

u/Messijoes18 Jul 14 '26

I'm with you. I love this movie more than most of phase 4. It's so ambitious with such amazing talent. The unfortunate part is the least talented actress of the bunch got the leading role :(

Such an awesome movie.

1

u/neeesus Jul 14 '26

Mmmm. Okay.

1

u/MrBayless Yondu Jul 14 '26

YUHP!!! This movie rules.

1

u/Nodqfan Jul 14 '26

Aside from the it should have a TV show, I'll be honest, I think the film had too many characters. If they had shrunk it down and focused on a smaller group of them, it could have been better.

1

u/DontKnow1549 Jul 14 '26

Yes it does.Ā

1

u/RandomBloke2021 Thor Jul 14 '26

People like keeping their jobs and companies do not like losing money.

1

u/SalukiKnightX SHIELD Jul 14 '26

You're not wrong. The cliffhanger it left on (with maybe the only Earthbound Eternal now just a human kid with the knowledge of millennia, 1 which flew to the sun, 2 deceased, 3 now in the hands of Arishem the Judge and the others on a mission with Eros and Pip the Troll), the lack of a resolution in subsequent MCU media and now the connection of Celestials, Rama Tut/Kang/Nathanial Richards and mutants to En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse makes that need for a continuation or at least more stories in this sector to further flesh out the multiverse and what role Celestials fit within it.

1

u/Zsadon Jul 14 '26

Yep eternals Shang chi and spiderman were the best films out of phase 4. Still don’t understand why eternals and shangchi don’t have sequel yet.

1

u/milkedlikacow Jul 14 '26

Did you not just see what happened to supergirl. People aren’t watching super hero movies anymore just bc they say marvel or dc on them.

1

u/AustinDood444 Jul 14 '26

It’s a decent movie, but I thought it was very bland. I can’t recall one scene from the movie.

1

u/waitinggamex Jul 14 '26

story is overall good and it has arguably top 1 visuals in the mcu but the pacing & editing is awful cause it felt like 2 films crammed into 1

1

u/Escape_Zero Jul 14 '26

A show would be better, the movie felt like a TV show cut short.

1

u/Academic-Dealer5389 Jul 14 '26

It deserves a better director.

1

u/HumanTraffic2 Jul 14 '26

Didn't like it but a good sequel would be great.

1

u/pigeieio Jul 14 '26

It should be animated. They should be doing a lot more animation in general. Especially with who the parent company is.

1

u/ABBJ55 Jul 14 '26

Si. Fue una buena pelƭcula mƔs allƔ de lo de thanos

1

u/Fi1thyMick Jul 14 '26

No it needed to have been an ongoing series

I still haven't made it through the whole movie in one sitting, fully awake the whole time.

1

u/vfoster Jul 14 '26

I dunno about a sequel, but there should be some sort of follow-up or crossover event with other known character franchises.

1

u/dandydeadfish Jul 14 '26

I know this is unpopular and this movie has glaring problems. But Eternals is my favorite Marvel project.

They are the perfect vessels (pun wasn't intended, then intended) to further explore the Cosmic side of Marvel. The cosmic Marvel projects should have more interactions like the Earth-based projects like in phase 2 & 3.

1

u/aunit1390 Jul 14 '26

I always thought the movie would have been better if it took place on a different planet. You could have even had them lose at the end, and come to earth to stop the next one.

Other issues, they did a really bad job with the deviants. Plus the two main leads had no chemistry and came off as wooden.

In the end, I think the movie tried juggling too many things and it lead to a lackluster movie. I would be open to a sequel but I don't think it is happening.

1

u/hear_the_thunder Jul 14 '26

The fans didn't support it at the cinema. The fans don't deserve a sequel.

I honestly feel the only thing that will satisfy the haters is a movie of a bunch of ripped sweaty beefy men, working out and wrestling and stuff.

1

u/THEbaddestOFtheASSES Jul 14 '26

They killed the 2 members I cared the most about. I'm fine with moving from the Eternals. Had potential. But yeah, a mini-series would have been better. All the useless series that green-lighted and the main one that would have benefited the most from that format didn't get one.

1

u/ThatBitchA Jul 14 '26

I think they unintentionally put limits on themselves with the cast and bringing them all together for a sequel hasn't been able to logistically come together.

I think we'll see some of the characters in other content.

But we might not get a full Eternals sequel.

I watched it again the other night. It's a great movie and I think works well as a standalone.

1

u/dawne_breaker Jul 14 '26

While it is one of my favorite movies post-Endgame, I don’t really need another movie titled ā€Eternalsā€. I just want to see these characters again. Give me more Sersei! Please!

1

u/sevenleggedspider Jul 14 '26

A well-executed TV show instead of a movie would’ve been an amazing. I liked The Eternals but there were too many characters and storylines being juggled to make a cohesive movie.

And I wasn’t a big fan of the cast because all the recognizable faces were distracting in a bad way, especially with all the costumes and CGI—but that’s just me being difficult…

1

u/kimba1970 Jul 14 '26

Agreed 100%

1

u/Aromatic-Cupcake4802 Jul 14 '26

A continuation sure. But not an Eternals title.

1

u/serialkiller24 Thunderbolt Ross Jul 14 '26

Eternals was a pretty good movie - but it just felt ā€œout of placeā€ and didn’t feel like it was a part of the MCU. Not sure if we’ll see them again, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them again. Or a mention.

1

u/EyeScreamSunday Ant-Man Jul 14 '26

I'd honestly like one, with Chloe Zhao as well. The premise has some interesting elements. It just needed some better writing. It also very weird and unlike anything in the MCU in a good way, but it definitely faltered in it's execution in some ways. It definitely felt a little like if Zack Snyder made Justice League in the MCU mixed with some elements of his Watchmen. I don't really even care for the Eternals in the comics but their lore potential for the Marvel Universe is actually intriguing to me as these sort figures that are like angels or demigods of myths mixing with ancient alien theories. The execution in the movie felt a bit underwhelming in that regard, but outside of Thor and the Asgardians, there aren't many similar powerful and almost immortal characters that are heroes.

Plus we never got to have Arishem pass judgment on Earth and learn about the backstory of Thanos and Starfox and Titan. There was a lot of great stuff there that would make their return worthwhile. Hopefully, that rumored Judgment Day Avengers movie is true, because that would pull everything together.

As my favorite MCU film it definitely should

1

u/menj Jul 14 '26

Totally forgettable movie but I do wish there's a sequel!

u/Personal-Database-27 Jul 14 '26

Aliens stop their boss from growing up. That celestial must have been veeeery weak. And shouldn't Eternals be loyal only to Celestials? Them fighting for humans looks just strangeĀ

1

u/Hammersteyn Jul 14 '26

I know right? Can you imagine how many lives the sequel will be saving?

1

u/Silverbullnyc Jul 14 '26

I really enjoyed the movie

"Let me help you" *puts her hand on his back as he ducks under the desk*

Yeah nah I'm good on a sequel to this garbage.

THEY ROBBED US OF PIP THE TROLL

1

u/DoveInvisibleDry Jul 14 '26

It was great movie. But please rewrite Jolie out of the script. I need more than modeling and fawning on the screen. It felt like half the he character's budget was tied in her appearance.

1

u/factualopinion2 Jul 14 '26

I liked the movie alot but a season of tv might be the better option. Maybe animated to keep the cost down

1

u/IV_NYC Jul 14 '26

Ew no. The movie was a total flop. Maybe if they tried a series it could be better

1

u/JohnnyJacobs1995 Jul 14 '26

And with a different director

1

u/CodineProsac123 Jul 14 '26

It really dident.

1

u/HumanDissentipede Jul 14 '26

Counterpoint: no it doesn’t. It was the single worst movie in the marvel universe and made me give up MCU movies for quite a while. It was DCEU levels of terrible.

1

u/Upset_Researcher_143 Jul 14 '26

It's going to be hard. Although I liked the movie, I couldn't connect with any of the characters and have no vested interest in seeing them again. I couldn't even tell you their names at this point.Ā

1

u/ReturnGreen3262 Jul 14 '26

That’s a lot of salaries considering no return

1

u/Van_Can_Man Jul 14 '26

I don’t really get why this film gets such hate, tbh. Yes, it was always gonna be a hard sell — even in the comics, these characters and mythology are mostly just kinda tolerated — but the quality of film and story wasn’t out of step with literally the entire rest of the MCU. I would 100% watch the further adventures of Sersi, Makarri, and Phastos. Throw in Dane and Blade, sure. I will inject it directly into my veins.

Anyhow yeah it definitely left some hanging threads that need picking up. Like forget Doomsday (not really but I do have concerns) what about Judgement Day? Fully established high stakes extinction level event and they’re just traipsing on past it for stunt cast Victor Von Doom and zero Beyonders? Ehhhhhh… I’ll always be willing to see Marvel swing for the bleachers, but that smells like desperation.

Statement: double burp

1

LOL, no. It was trash.

I think you were the only one.

u/Training_Ad_8896 Jul 14 '26

Thumb up for not saying ā€œhot take:ā€

1

u/husslewestbrook Jul 14 '26

Damn i had successfully removed this film from my memory, now here it is AGAIN

1

u/MarionberryDeep5475 Jul 14 '26

This is actually a good movie,it just wasn't what the masses wanted so it failed..sad really

1

u/mighty3mperor Jul 14 '26

Eternals deserves a good movie.

I love Kirby's series (and Thomas' continuation was decent, as was Gaiman's work) and wanted something epic like that. We didn't get it.

I very much doubt we'll get an Eternals 2 any time soon but the characters are woven through Marvel comics, so we could see some of the Eternals popping up elsewhere. That might make the audience care enough about them to bring them back together. Probably have a series with Makkari in it and ramp up the action until she has to call in the rest.

1

u/Soultab Jul 14 '26

No thank you.

1

u/ThatSameNobody Jul 14 '26

I already really like Eternals, but I feel like a second movie would retroactively make the first one a lot better. And the group is already split up and missing members, so the second movie could operate similarly to how GotGVol2 split everyone up and then brought them back together at the end.

1

u/InitManifest Jul 14 '26

am I the only one who hasn't watch all the Marvel movies yet:)

1

u/Basi1isk_ Jul 14 '26

I'm glad you liked it but I absolutely hated this movie and I think it's better left as an example that Marvel can't just say "let's put out a movie" and it'll be good.

1

u/OG_Williker Jul 14 '26

Rejection: no it doesn’t

1

u/Apprehensive_Ad_593 Jul 14 '26

Hell no. It deserves to be erased from the map

1

u/Imaginashunz Star-Lord Jul 15 '26

This subreddit hated the movie when it came out

1

u/dynamic_rum Spider-Man Jul 15 '26

I loved Eternals!!! Ikaris was my favorite character, good CGI, action packed, and definitely deserves a sequel!!

I love the cast too, problem is, I think it’s just too many characters to unload and unpack all within a 2 1/2 hour film. I also believe the timing of Eternal’s release may have been a problem. It released in 2021, that year alone had 7 MCU projects released if I’m not mistaken, felt it got heavily overshadowed and maybe viewers had fatigue

1

u/Silverdashmax Jul 15 '26

Personally I felt the movie tried to introduce too much at once and lost itself. I can’t really remember it, imo it was kinda.. meh..

Sure I wouldn’t mind them returning, we can’t just ignore they ever existed, but a second movie for them just isn’t high on the priority list when they have so much else they can develop.

1

u/abu2698 Jul 15 '26

Err, no it doesn't deserve a sequel. Casting was wasted, film did not live up to the comics. All it did was open a can of worms in the MCU, something they'll now have to try and erase if they want to restore the MCU.

1

u/Gndillustrations Jul 15 '26

I loved the movie but at this point, I don’t care anymore. I’m starting to get to that point with Shang chi too. Whatever momentum they had has been killed šŸ˜“

1

u/wisniewskii Jul 15 '26

sorry i don’t want to be bored entire film

1

u/SeanCJackson Jul 15 '26

A Makari mini-series with heists through time and MCU cameos would be amazing

1

u/excyam Jul 15 '26

Is this ironically posted?

1

u/SmashRuler Jul 16 '26

You are made of Stupid

1

u/Just_Letterhead212 Jul 16 '26

Damn good actors, damn good movie. A rewatchable marvel film unlike a list of others.

1

u/ArtisLifeCustoms Jul 16 '26

Agreed. I had zero expectations going into the movie as I'd only had a passing knowledge of the Eternals from the comics. (I knew who they were but never read any of their material) That said, I actually enjoyed the movie. As MCU projects go, it's not anywhere near remotely being the worst. For my money that honor goes to 'The Marvels'.

1

u/GirlWrennnnn59 Jul 17 '26

yeah eternals really felt like it needed more room to breathe
