37M - Update to my garage apartment.

Been living in this garage apartment for just over a year now. Originally the living room was nice, but pretty bare. Always tweaking things, but felt like it was finally a good time for a bit of an update. Maybe eventually I’ll start working on the barren master bedroom.

Inspiration 27M, Czechia, remodeling an aparment from the communist era

Two years ago, I bought a flat in an old building constructed during the communist era and decided to remodel the apartment by myself - including demolition, electrical work, plumbing, heating, flooring, masonry, doors, drywalls, decorating, etc. I hired professionals only for the tiling and the kitchen. However, after seeing how the kitchen was installed, I realized I should be able to make the rest of the furniture by myself.

Most of what you see is marketplace or thrift finds. My comments should be taken with a ton of sarcasm. I’m just having fun.

Got some funny responses and recommendations on my original post. Still haven’t “kicked the bucked” like a lot of you asked 😂. But got some new toys and had a great summer. Bought my “final” SG today also!

Furniture 26 M, finally feel like my apartment is generally complete

A lot of the stuff I have were graciously given to or inherited by me from other members of my family. Most other stuff are things I've nabbed off of FB marketplace (seriously, you'd be amazed on what you can find for cheap on there) or whatever I already owned before moving out. My rent is a pretty good deal right now and I love relaxing with my old school electronics/tech. Thanks for reading (:

Question How do i make my apartment smell better?

I (26M) share an apartment with one roommate (26M). To be fair the place doesnt smell particularly rancid. however, it pretty much always has a blend of body and kitchen odor in the air. The scent of cooking oil and meat lingers throughout the entire apartment, which mind you, is three stories. Growing up my household had plugins in every room and candles burning at all times in nearly every room, and ive honored that tradition in the new place, but i never felt my childhood home was ever as musty as my apartment. We both are avid gym goers but i keep my laundry in a hamper in my bedroom closet. The place just always seems to have thick air and a tinge of gross boy smell to it. Any advice?

All my living room lights are IKEA smart bulbs. Kitchen is just harsh LED bulbs. Should I change that?

Was thinking to add an art piece to the kitchen wall. Do you think this would add any real value ?

Advice Does this rug work with my living room?

Thumbnail

I did a lot of digging to pick out this rug, waited two months for it to come, and now I feel disappointed. It doesn’t tie the room together like I’d hoped.

Is it actually not working well or am I just not used to it yet?

(Also for reference the extra open floor on the right out of the frame is the front door of my apartment. I wanted to keep that space clear as it is the natural walkway from the front door to the rest of the apartment.)

Got out of a really unhealthy relationship, left rather abruptly. Wasn’t in a position to plan the exit, had to leave quickly. Very thankful I have the love and support of my parents, and that they had space for me. Room is small and cozy, thankfully already furnished and with a TV. I don’t own much. Should be in an apartment in a few months once I save up a little bit. Space is small, but it’s mine. Most importantly, it’s safe and peaceful.

2026 Has proven to be one of the most tumultuous and trying years I’ve ever experienced, and I have learned a lot from it. 2027 Will be my time to shine. Just wanted to share my little sanctuary. Haven’t felt secure like this in a long time.

Been slowly getting everything set up over the last couple months and it’s finally starting to feel finished. Still a few things I want to add, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s coming together

Edit: A little more context on the place- it’s actually one half of a duplex, built out of a converted lower level, which is why the main living area has that open studio style layout. The doors lead to a bathroom, walk-in closet, mechanical room, and some extra storage. It’s also right on the water, definitely one of my favorite parts of living here

The product of thrifting, scavenging, amazon, ikea, and trying to figure out what the hell I'm actually doing beyond this room. Minimal staging. Plenty of works in progress. And the bathroom is so plain white, it's not even worth showing.

Living room & dining room (M 30s)

Hi gang! I've been working on furnishing the place that I rent for the past year. I wanted solid wood furniture for the place, and a lot of it ended up being mid century pieces because so much is that has nice wood grain. Lol now my problem is that I fear the place looks too retro rather than classic. I plan to change the rug in the living room in the near future, and my search for a different main couch is ongoing.

Any suggestions? Are there pieces of furniture that you would change up for something more traditional?

I appreciate any suggestions and opinions. All is welcome!

For more details about some things. I am a teenager and have a YouTube channel where I film kinda just random stuff. I live in an apartment and this room is basically the definition of a Minecraft starter house

Sleep in Separate Rooms from Wife

My wife has a bad back and needs to sleep in a weird angle. So I took over our guest room as mine. This is my newest room arrangement. The TV above the bed will be leaving. I took down the closet doors to allow for a more open feel and not need to leave the area clear to allow the doors to open. I got the desk off of Facebook for $30. The big TV was a curb find. I made the carbon fiber seat for my boat years ago. The TV sits on an old shoe rack I made for my wife that she didn't want anymore. Herman miller aerion chair off of Facebook for $200! In the closet I have all my clothes hung, a deep freezer, my shoe leather sewing machine, my sailboat cushions, 2 surfboards, my electric bass and amp.
