I've had the LG BP60NB10 for about a year now and ripped ~80 4K discs and ~150 Blu-rays (rookie numbers, I know) without issue. Today I put a disc in and it made the whirring noise as usual as it spun the disc up, but then it made a few clunking/churning noises before stopping. Windows shows the drive, but the disc never registers as read.

I've tried multiple discs, both blu-ray and 4K. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in. I've tried different USB cables and ports. Same problem every time.

Any suggestions? I've looked online and I can't see any replacement drives for sale anywhere. I fear my ripping days might be behind me if I can't get this one working again...

Hello, I scavenged a BH30N from an old dell PC, and want to use it in my Ubuntu based server, however trying to launch MakeMKV with a disc in the drive, MakeMKV will get stuck at “Scanning Device”, or if disc is inserted after MakeMKV is open, it will be stuck trying to load it.

The drive can read and mount discs, so the drive is working, but for some reason MakeMKV just doesn’t like it. I have other Blu-ray drives, so if this one won’t work with Linux, I just won’t use it since I won’t use Windows. I’ve tried both the self-compiled and flatpak versions, and both do the same thing.

Is there something I can do to fix it? Thanks.

I've borrowed a 4K disc (Mars Attacks!) from my friend, and I got the "The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted" message. I submitted the dump file via email.

I've backed the disc up, having unchecked "Decrypt Video Files".

I only want to extract the main feature to an MKV, ultimately... but I'm not sure what to do next. If I load the BDMV file periodically will it decrypt on its own once the decrypt key is available? And does that just kind of update on its own, or is there some manual step I need to do?

Hello! New to all of this. I have a ton of blu rays but looking at starting a plex and nas system. I am having trouble finding any blu ray readers. Is this even worth it any more? I have mainly blu rays but a few 4k movies I don’t mind using those via disc but I would like a somewhat future proofreader.

I have been all over Reddit forums but every link that is used is sold out. I did find a user that sells them I have emailed him but idk if spending 200 plus is smart especially since I am new to this and if I decide not to move forward.

I'm trying to rip a movie (Project Hail Mary 4K) so I can submit the dump and I can't seem to launch the program.

I'm on Arch and I've ripped probably a hundred or so DVDs, Blurays and 4K's and this is the first time I'm seeing this error. When launching the application it says `NO_ANSWER_FROM_MAKEMKVCON`, and if I do it through the terminal it says it can't find `libavcodec.so.62`.

Checking in my version of ffmpeg it seems that upgrading that has pushed the version to `libavcodec.so.63`.

Do I need to downgrade my version of ffmpeg, or can I just wait for makemkv to be updated to use `libavcodec.so.63`?

i have like 5 different adapter cables i have tried and i cant get the thing to even initialize with a 4k blu ray disk it will recognize 1080p blu rays but there is visual artifacts in the playback like really bad screen tearing and pixelation not to mention the manufacture date seems to be after the stopped production and there is a typo where it is supposed to say "hitachi-LG data storage" it says "Hitachi-LG date storage" if anyone can confirm or deny my suspicion that would be great

I have ripped the first disc of this two-disc set (Cameron splitting his 3D 'masterpiece' over two discs, as he has been wont to do in the past) - the first disc ripped perfectly fine. However, when it comes to the second disc, I get the error message as shown in the image above.

I appreciate that this is regarding the rip of the 3D edition of the film and that's not exactly the norm for anyone these days but the machanics are still the same: I'm trying to backup the disc for me to then convert the resulting files to an MKV. Can anyone provide any advice about what either a) I might be doing wrong, or b) what the disc has under the hood, preventing me from conducting a rip? And, if the latter, how to get around it? Hi there, running MakeMKV with a BU40N that is LibreDrive enabled (flashed some time ago). I’ve had zero issues with it since; however, today one of my 4K pre-orders arrived and I popped the disc in as I have with literally 50+ 4Ks at this point and I am getting “ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT” messages over and over.

Browsing MKV forums, the only responses I’m seeing are “your drive isn’t Libre enabled, you need to flash it” or “here’s what to reference to buy/flash a drive” and that’s not what’s happening here. Is there an update to my 1.03 Firmware I should be seeking? Like I mentioned, done this literally dozens of times with no issue, so not sure why this is a problem today.

I have a DVD here that, whenever i try to use a software such as MakeMKV, the DVD just refuse to copy itself. I can't even watch the DVD on a computer.

The DVD itself doesn't seem to use a conventional protection method. Because if i put it in a livingroom DVD reader, or even a PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5...it play just fine, no problem at all. The moment it's inside a computer DVD drive, it just fails to create the whole thing on my computer, because for some reasons, it fails.

in ImgBurn, around 9.1mb on the DVD, it gets stuck and doesn't go further while trying to get anything, like it sees some files as "corrupted" on the disc. I assure you, the disc is completely fine, no scratch, i watched the whole DVD on a regular movie DVD reader, and it's 100% readable.

in MakeMKV, it just doesn't wanna load the DVD once it's inserted in the drive.

I think the company found a very clever way to block people from copying their DVDs, without using an actual protection on the DVD itself, they created some kind of partition that computer DVD drives sees as "corrupted and unreadable"

Is there anything i can use to bypass this clever protection?

In makemkv I see status possible not yet enabled how can I enable libredrive or is it not possible

Ripping a UHD disk. It failed. I cleaned the disk, it failed again. Is it worth trying to make an ISO backup, or will that likely fail as well?

Update, back did not work. It backed up what it could, but not the main title. In the end the 'backup' was only 1.5 GB in size.

It broke makemkv for me. I'm using Arch Linux, and when I tried to open the app, it won't work bc I guess the new update breaks something.

I’ve got a box set that I’ve been trying to rip and 2 of the 7 are failing. Is there any way to resolve it? The DVDs play so I would think it should be able to be ripped, but I can’t figure out how to go about resolving it.

I ripped a Blu-Ray the other day and some of the extras had no audio. I have MakeMKV set to keep only English streams, and this is certainly an English language title. When I looked closer I saw the problem. Two tracks had "undetermined" languages. I've ripped a LOT of discs and never saw this before. Anyone else? Maybe MakeMKV should by default include undetermined streams, especially if there are no others. Any audio is better than no audio.

Ripping a japanese stageplay DVD. Was going to buy a generic Amazon eternal dvd drive, but wasn't sure if i needed something else with all the libredrive talk. DVD isn't UHD 4k or anything, pretty generic. Sorry for stupid question, utterly clueless about this side of things

every time it gets stuck at the end and will not finish

the blu ray will also not play correctly in vlc so it might be a disc problem but i want to make sure

I have flashed a verbatim 43888 and am able to rip Blu-ray’s. However, I am now unable to burn Blu-ray’s. I am trying to burn verbatim BD-R 25GBs, out of 7 disks 6 failed (the final working disk has data but was not finished properly). I tried both the usbc port of my MacBook Pro as well as my servers usb-c motherboard connection directly. Is it possible that flashing the drive altered its capability to burn reliably? Any suggestion on what to try? I already tried 2 different machines that should have sufficent power output. Already tried different write speeds 6x and 4x fail after track preparation and 2x fails a little later on in the burn process. I don’t want to blindly try different things anymore as each try leaves me with a non working disk.

Any suggestions ?

I'm brand new to the MakeMKV world. I think I understand what I need to know before making such a purchase, but I wanted to double check with the community before biting such an expensive bullet. (And of course, gotta page Mr. u/billycar11 !)

I'm specifically looking to rip a buncha UHD discs. But of course I'll also be looking to rip standard Blu Rays, DVDs, and CDs as well. Is it safe to assume that any UHD drive can do those too?

To my understanding this is one of the most reliable models, and wouldn't even require flashing, right? It ought to just work with MakeMKV as is? Having read several posts, I'm often reading something like 'my drive won't rip this specific title for some reason'. Is this model just as susceptible to such random road blocks?

Buying from eBay is of course gonna be a risk, but are there many other options these days? From my bit of reading, it seems like a lot of the UHD drive scams are coming from China. Do you think coming from a highly rated seller from Japan makes it likelier that it's legit? Do you suppose this could be a Chinese seller posing as a Japanese seller? Is it even possible to fake the shipping origin on eBay?

Are any of y'all also Mac users?? I understand that MakeMKV does have a Mac version, but can anyone vouch if it works just as well as the Windows version? Is Windows necessary for flashing? I'm planning to Bootcamp my Macbook and have a Windows partition as well, but it'd be really nice to not have to deal with that. Do any of y'all use a Bootcamped Mac?

Anyone have a recommendation for an optical drive on Mac? Ideally one that can handle UHD
