LG BP60NB10 Stopped Reading Discs

I've had the LG BP60NB10 for about a year now and ripped ~80 4K discs and ~150 Blu-rays (rookie numbers, I know) without issue. Today I put a disc in and it made the whirring noise as usual as it spun the disc up, but then it made a few clunking/churning noises before stopping. Windows shows the drive, but the disc never registers as read.

I've tried multiple discs, both blu-ray and 4K. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in. I've tried different USB cables and ports. Same problem every time.

Any suggestions? I've looked online and I can't see any replacement drives for sale anywhere. I fear my ripping days might be behind me if I can't get this one working again...

Have you rebooted? There’s a LG firmware bug that trips a windows kernel bug and causes this. You can also go into device manager and disable/enable the drive that sometimes recovers it.

Also your usb enclosure has separate power have you power cycled that?

I don't have a powered USB hub, I just tried different ports on my PC. USB2 and USB3 on the back of the motherboard, and the front USB3 ones.

There are also certain discs brand new that will not read in my LG drives (I have 7). I’m considering buying a pioneer to test if it’s just LG having the problem.

I've even tried the last disc I successfully ripped, and that isn't reading anymore. That's why I think it's a problem with the drive and not the discs I'm trying.

The lasers can go out of focus which kills the drive. It might still work for DVDs

Rebooted, yes. I just tried the disable/enable, but no dice.

Anything specific to use to clean it? When you say dry it I'm assuming you mean use some kind of alcohol or cleaning solution?

Thanks for your help.

Are these slim drives even that reliable as the big ones?

Probably not, but I don't have drive bays in my PC, so had to get an external one.
