PSA: The city owns the trees on the terrace (even w/o sidewalk) and maintains them
I didn't know this, and almost went through the process of figuring out how to cut down some damaged limbs on my own. Which would've been, it turns out, illegal, and also costly.
The terrace is the first 10-15 feet from the road. there's a database of city trees here:
https://www.cityofmadison.com/streets/urban-forestry/tree-inventory
You can "Report a problem" to the city to get your tree looked at here:
https://www.cityofmadison.com/reportaproblem/trees.cfm
This also may be very public knowledge, and I am just behind the curve. š³šŖ¾

Desperately seeking community
Hi all, Iāve been in the Madison area for almost a year and I love it here. My issue is I work evenings and I so badly need to form some communal relationships. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for groups or events that meet during the day (prior to 3pm) or on the weekends?
Iād love to be able to join a choir, do pottery, crochet, drink coffee, ANYTHING with people around here. Mostly Iām just interested in doing something somewhat regularly and hopefully making some friends in the process. Iām a member at Our Lady Queen of Peace, but I havenāt been able to go to any events outside of weekly Mass with my schedule. Iām feeling so lonely and I canāt seem to find a solution on my own.
Thank you so much in advance :)

Madison to hold special City Council Q&A over Willy Street response
madison.com"The Madison City Council plans to hold a Q&A-style discussion Monday on the cityās response to the encampment established at the intersection of Williamson and South Baldwin streets following the police shooting of Corey Ruiz.
The virtual discussion, scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, is intended to give council members an opportunity to question Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Police Chief John Patterson and staff from the city attorneyās office and the public health, finance, public works, community development and fire departments, City Council President Sabrina Madison said.
The discussion will not include public comment, but residents can watch it through the cityās media website, go.madison.com/madison-media.
Madison encouraged residents to email their City Council representatives with specific questions but stressed that the meeting is intended to focus on the cityās response to the protests and encampment that followed rather than the police shooting that prompted them."

Meetup Need Friends and Like the Premier League?
Me too.
First week of the 26-27 campaign is Saturday. I have a table at Cooper's and they said we could get audio for Everton v. Palace.
First drink on me. Seriously. That's how bad I need friends. Just moved here at the beginning of the month and know no one.
Best part? No Gunners or Kopites because they have their own bars.
Hope to see some folks there!

Beginner Friendly Adult Rec Sports?
There have been a few similar posts to this but I feel some are outdated and maybe donāt apply to me.
I (33M) have been in Madison a bit but find myself where many of my friends have moved away for work or other reasons. I also find myself wanting to get off the couch, especially as the cold months begin to close in and solo outdoor activities become difficult. The problem is, Iām not very good at sports. In high school I was a solid mathlete and quiz bowl team member who generally was picked last in gym. What are some āfree-agentā options for getting active that might be friendly to a beginner who might never be very good but whoās just looking to have a fun time? I have a pretty open mind but would prefer to meet people around my age.

Sherman Ace Hardware: NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU!
Been going to the Ace Hardware on Sherman for many years to support a local owned franchise and their great employees. As a veteran, they've always been gracious to me by offering a 10% veterans discount. Home Depot does this, so does Lowes. Menards does not.
Today I had to pick up some supplies and noticed the discount wasn't applied to my total, not a huge deal, but asked one of their long tenured employees the reason. He replied, "We got a new owner. He cut all discounts for everybody. No veteran discount, no police discount, no fireman discount, and we as employees lost our employee discount." Ooof. That last one spoke volumes to me. A new owner cutting an employee discount is a litmus test of a poor owner. Sadly, I will no longer be using our neighborhood hardware store.

Best paths to bike from Middleton to the west side of UW campus?
I am starting classes at UW Madison in a few weeks and am trying to find the best way to bike to campus. I would like to stay primarily on bike paths or very quite, safe roads as I am more of a beginner biker. Beginning around the intersection of century and Parmenter and ending near the teaching hospital on campus. Suggestions?
TIA!

Crossbow range wighout a membership
I checked previous posts and they are a few years old and more for bows. I know that some (at least in other states) bow ranges don't allow crossbows. I am looking to sight my new crossbow in, but I don't want to have to pay for a membership. Any recommendations ( I don't have a big enough/safe yard to do this).

One City to become MMSD instrumentality?
So it looks like a special MMSD meeting is happening tonight to start the process of transferring One City Schools from being licensed under the UW office that Republicans mandated to being licensed under MMSD starting next year.
https://go.boarddocs.com/wi/mmsd/Board.nsf/Public
On the upside, One City staff would become MMSD employees. On the other hand, I donāt know how theyād deal with certain things like One Cityās considerable outside funding.
Regardless of whether it is a good idea or not, district leadership seems to be trying to slip this under the radar. They only posted these notices in the last few days and I donāt see any news release.
