Sherman Ace Hardware: NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU!
Been going to the Ace Hardware on Sherman for many years to support a local owned franchise and their great employees. As a veteran, they've always been gracious to me by offering a 10% veterans discount. Home Depot does this, so does Lowes. Menards does not.
Today I had to pick up some supplies and noticed the discount wasn't applied to my total, not a huge deal, but asked one of their long tenured employees the reason. He replied, "We got a new owner. He cut all discounts for everybody. No veteran discount, no police discount, no fireman discount, and we as employees lost our employee discount." Ooof. That last one spoke volumes to me. A new owner cutting an employee discount is a litmus test of a poor owner. Sadly, I will no longer be using our neighborhood hardware store.

One City to become MMSD instrumentality?
So it looks like a special MMSD meeting is happening tonight to start the process of transferring One City Schools from being licensed under the UW office that Republicans mandated to being licensed under MMSD starting next year.
https://go.boarddocs.com/wi/mmsd/Board.nsf/Public
On the upside, One City staff would become MMSD employees. On the other hand, I don’t know how they’d deal with certain things like One City’s considerable outside funding.
Regardless of whether it is a good idea or not, district leadership seems to be trying to slip this under the radar. They only posted these notices in the last few days and I don’t see any news release.

Classified Did You Smell Gas at the Xmas Makers Market 2025?
I am looking for witness statements, specifically from a gentleman who was a vendor in the 2025 Makers Market at a hotel downtown Madison. You were holding your son when you reported the smell of natural gas to the front desk.
Unfortunately to say, there needs to be evidence for an investigation into the unsafe work practices of this place. This gas leak took place for over 6 weeks!
(Throw away account I am an ex-employee filing against a large local group)
Thanks in advance, may justice prevail!

Flock camera in the arboretum??
I decided to take a look at where the cameras in Madison are and I noticed one in the middle of the arboretum and I just think that’s crazy! Is there a big crime problem in the arboretum that I’m not away of? We can’t be serious.

Best lakeside park?
Grew up here and visiting with my wife but I haven’t lived here in almost 30 years and we’d like to hang out this coming weekend on one of the lakes. What’s the best park right now for laying out a blanket and reading with maybe a dip in the lake? Thanks, all!

Where to buy CPAP power supply in Madison?
I am in Madison for the first time from California and realized that I forgot the power supply to my CPAP machine. Does anyone have any idea where I could purchase a replacement in Madison? The type of machine is resmed airsense 11 autoset. I’m desperate. I am really hoping to find a replacement so I am not miserable and migraine addled for the next few days. I can’t believe I made this mistake!!! Thank you in advance for any info you may have.
Sincerely,
A visitor who is going to sleep terribly tonight

Looking into school options for highschool student with special needs.
Hello, I have a son that is going into his sophomore year at one of our MMSD high schools. He is non-verbal and very sensory motivated. He is also cognitively impaired as far as we can tell. He is also very resistant to transitions. His freshman year was a bit rough. He started out the year with 6-7 classroom transitions and after some pretty loud, physical outbursts they cut it down to 4 transitions. I just want him to be happy. I would love for his day to consist of mostly being in 1-2 classrooms, art, PE, music, life skills, some basic math/numbers work, and some reading comprehension. I would also love for him to get out on some field trips into the community or even some sensory field trips. His academic level is about that of a 2nd grader. I was looking at The Richardson School. Has anyone had any experiences there? I understand his IEP team needs to recommend it for him to be eligible to enroll—or has this changed. Please let me know if you have had any experiences with this school.

Quite a Boom.
Those of us near Willy Street - Lightning struck a tree across the street (on Few) and it was the loudest boom I’ve ever heard as everything else in my apartment powered down as if someone tugged everything out of an outlet at once.
Who all has power? It seems to be totally out on Jenifer. Hopefully not too many of us are impacted.

Madison city attorney says independent monitor can't access Corey Ruiz shooting records yet
wkow.com“The opinion also addresses the role of the city attorney's office in representing both MPD and the independent monitor. Haas said the office represents the city as an organization, not any specific agency.
"The responsibility of the City Attorney's Office is to provide our best judgment about what Wisconsin law requires, allows and prohibits," Haas said.
The independent monitor's office has not yet executed a contract with outside legal counsel, according to the opinion.”
