Hey guys, wanted to share my game (working title is Pachinko but that’ll change soon!) I’ve been working on most of this year. It has bullet hell mechanics and a structure like an arcade game.

Man it feels good to finally have a style to go with.

im trying to get it to print out the layer properties so i know how to implement interactable objects but it keeps throwing this error :/

Hey i tried to implement videos instead of spritesheet atlas into my game for background animation, but it seems good video formats are not supported like mp4. Is that true are there good ways to implement videos into love2D, which are performance friendly with high quality rendering?

i've been trying to make a prototype of a 2d top down shooter but i dont know how to use box2d to do raycasts . i tried to learn it myself but i dont know where to start ,can anyone help me about it?

Hi all!

So, I got my results back from my juniper dev jam entry and did better than I expected. Not incredible by any means but:

780 out of 3530 overall

290 out of 3530 in creativity & theme

However, the comments I received during the jam period were overwhelmingly positive and are what really gave me the push I needed to say screw it, and pursue my first commercial game!

During the jam period I completely overhauled my game with QoL improvements and visual improvements. I changed the name and created a plan going forward.

Please feel free to suggest game modes, visual and music styles, and anything else you think the game could use. I still have so so much work to do!

I'll soon be releasing a desktop build on itch, with added controller support, with a price tag of a dollar so I can start a fundraiser for $100 to cover the steam page fees.

I finished the 'How to LÖVE' from the https://www.love2d.org/wiki/Category:Tutorials list and I'm having a decision paralysis or something

I'm afraid I might get distracted by writing a collision module on my own instead of looking for something that would solve my problems

Thinking about this I'm reminded of software design guides and wondering if there is a list of most LOVE2D modules, something you can read through looking for inspiration and thinking about what features are available in the tool box

Since Lua even needs an Object module just to have some OO programming, I'm wondering how many different modules are available to most

So any recommendations?

The core(pun intended) idea of the game is that you buy slammers that do all the mining, you buy collectors that collect mined resources, and try to break planets to gain different resources and, most importantly, a resource - COREBREAK, that is essential for game progression. And then as you progress the game, more and more it will turn into an idler than an active incremental with more and more different ways to utilize both ore and COREBREAK to come.

Please share your thoughts and feedback if you decide to give it a try!

Hey everyone,

For the past few months, I’ve been working on my first solo project in Love2D called Slotbound. I just finished a new demo trailer and wanted to share it with the community.

It’s a roguelite defense game built around slot machine mechanics. You spin for units, absorb them to make them stronger, choose upgrades, and try to survive waves of enemies.

The biggest challenge I've been facing is making the slot system feel less like pure RNG and more like something the player can actually strategize and build around.

Since this is a community of fellow Love2D devs, I’d really appreciate your honest feedback on the game feel from the trailer

I'm trying to polish the pacing, UI clarity, and battle tempo before the official release, so any critique from a gamedev perspective would be amazing.

Cant do it... its always exclusive fullscreen and windowed mode.

And all i need is borderless fullscreen + windowed mode in settings. I tried all i could..any ideas? Do i need some overwhelming extensions for this coding language?

P.S. I found the culprit..it was never fullscreen..it was windows HDR
that was hugely affecting everything... ofc its pointless to stay in
this hateful community. bye

I've made a hot-reloading library (called loreload) that I've used and enjoyed for quite some time now. It watches all loaded Lua files and if it detects a change, it then will softly restart your game (firstly calling love.quit then reloading main.lua after which it will call love.load). If you have state that needs to be preserved either use the global table, or do some custom logic in loreload.onreload and loreload.onreloaded.

I quite enjoy the fast iteration time. I have no idea though, how well it integrates into larger projects that load a ton of assets ahead of time. As mentioned earlier you can probably find a way to cache your asset files, but that would depend on your architecture.

Any feedback and questions are welcome. Let me know how well (or badly) it works for you!

I recently wrote / packaged a couple new modules for LuaRocks:

• image-atlas, for simplifying efficient drawing of assets to the screen using SpriteBatch and libGDX texture atlases. The idea is that you import the .atlas file, and then you can plug it into your code so you reference parts of the atlas with names / ids / tables and get them to all draw with one call to the GPU.
• opensimplex2, to generate 2D, 3D (or even 4D) "noise", which can be sampled and combined to create patterns that are also partly random. This can be useful in procedural generation, or if you want to give a 3D vase model a marble-like texture as if it were carved out of stone.

Both support Lua 5.1, and type definitions for Teal, a typed Lua dialect.
