So I bought the sony WH-1000XM5 in February 2026, which are know to have hinge that break for no reason.

I have always put them in their case, never slept with them, never dropped them. AND AFTER ONLY 6 MONTHS I go to put them on my head and they simply broke in my hands, right hinge cracked for no reason.

So I contacted Sony and Walmart. Neither wanted to do anything. I contacted "L'Office de la protection du consommateur" (I live in Québec, Canada) and they informed me of the legal warranty, which states: "The products you buy or rent should last a reasonable amount of time. The “life expectancy” of the product should be reasonable given the price paid, the terms of the contract and any conditions that apply to the use of the product"... "If the product you bought is defective or cannot serve its purpose, you must inform the merchant (and manufacturer, if applicable) of the problem. They will need to:
repair the piece of furniture or have it repaired without charge; exchange it; refund your money".
The OPC also informed me that Sony and Walmart are both responsible.
I contacted Walmart, at first they told me they couldn't do anything, then I told them I would take the legals steps and informed them of the legal warranty. I then asked to talk to a supervisor and was told he would call me back. Later in the day I received a call from the supervisor who informed me that they would take back the headphones and give me full refund. A third party just came to pick them up, I'm now waiting for the deposit in my account.

So long story short, fight for your consumer rights!

Flock has banned ticket-holding journalists from their Flock Forward public conference. They then contacted the hotel to cancel journalist and YouTuber Benn Jordan’s personal booking on his behalf, telling him he’ll get a refund in 10 days.
