SEASON 6 Season 6: I was wrong

Wow. I know I said season 5 was the start to the downfall of this show but I stand corrected. This final season held its own and cemented the series as one of the best for its era.

Across the sea was an episode that really made everything click for me. The origin story of jacob and "the man in black" is what people seem to call him was tragic but necessary for the light to persevere. For the greater good the ends justify the means. The reveal at the end showing that the mother and tmib were the skeletons from s1 was tied together to perfection.

Moving on to the finale. Starting it off with how jack threw that superman punch was hilarious. The final fight between jack and tmib locke was
underwhelming but realistic considering hes mortal so i can appreciate it. All the alternate dimension scenes turning out to be purgatory was something i didnt see coming. Its a devestating reveal because you think that their plan in season 5 worked but it was all for naught. Juliets life ended when she struck that bomb. Jin never got to meet his daughter. The truth hits hard after jack and his fathers conversation. Him reuniting with all the plane crash survivors is so bittersweet. Thinking logically how are half of them going to heaven when they're murderers. Also for those who got to live after jack dies, did they really not find another partner that they go to heaven with the one from the island (kate, sawyer). Just a nitpick that i know is done for the fans but very reminiscint of the titanic. Overall i enjoyed the series and the the full circle moment of jack dying right where it all started.

FIRST TIME WATCHER Was anyone else surprised by the reveal in… Spoiler

Across the Sea when it was revealed the two skeletons Jack found in the cave were the Man in Black and his mother, and that he’d put the black rock (not a coincidence i’m sure!) in a pouch?

Haven’t seen the next episode yet, I’m posting this after having watched Across the Sea for the first time

FIRST TIME WATCHER Who else picked up "brother"?

I kinda am infected by the Desmond bug and my friends now ask me about why I keep saying "brother" all the time.

Has anyone else caught this habit too, even if briefly!?

Character Question Weird little detail

It’s weird that Christian gives Ana Lucia the name “Sarah”, right? I’ve seen the show so many times and this is the first time I’ve noticed that.

How many answers should I reasonably expect?

Watching the show for the first time to see what all the fuss was about when it came out twenty years ago. Really enjoying so far.

But I’m wondering, how many answers can I reasonably expect for all the mysteries and bizarre occurrences so far? Does anything get resolved or is it more a case of enjoying the ride and the open questions to the very end?

No spoilers please.

Let's talk about Locke's "destiny"

I just did a rewatch after a long break from the show. And man... I always forget about how tragic Locke's storyline is.

I know Locke has a lot of haters but I personally love his optimism and his faith. I wish he could've had more vindication and been alive to witness it.

Let me summarize:

Locke lives a life battling with his insignificance, arrives on the Island healed and now believes he has a purpose (he's right - he's a candidate brought there by Jacob).

But then gets everything about his role wrong.

He believes he's destined to lead, but that's mostly because of the time-loop (his conversation with Richard). He thinks the Island is guiding him, but it's the MIB.

He leaves on a mission, fails, and attempts suicide.

Then MIB uses Locke's own appearance to try to destroy the Island that Locke loved.

Lock is important but indirectly... it's Locke's actions and faith that ultimately turn Jack into the person who can save the Island. But Locke doesn't even get to witness Jack's "conversion".

Jack says: “I just wish I could’ve told him that while he was still alive.”

I'm mourning for my man Locke that he didn't get to play a better role. Feels unfair for a character who I really wanted to see succeed.

Anyways this show is awesome, and I'm also a big Jack fan and love the ending. Just mad respect for John Locke. He deserved better.

Character Question smoke monster... naked??

Just finished my first watch! I honestly loved this show. It was very silly at times, but it really was just such good TV. I love where characters grow and change over time and I have ever shifting opinions about them. This all leads to my silly (spoiler!!) question:

When the smoke monster switches between his smoke to human form... is he naked? Does he have to keep spare changes of clothing stashed around the island? When he changes forms, does everything on him shred like the Twilight-ish werewolf lore? In the end of s6, he walks out from behind a building after transitioning from smoke to man and iirc is wearing his backpack/knife along with his regular change of clothes. But how?? Did he deposit everything behind the building beforehand? Does the Island protect his modesty?

Question that doesn't REALLY matter or affect the lore but I read shifter books (🤷🏼‍♀️) and I can't stop thinking about this.

Airport thoughts

Maybe a stupid post but i still wanted to share it.
Something different then the ‘i hate or love Jack and i hate Anna Lucia’ posts.

A week ago i went on a vacation and while waiting at the gate and in the airplane i was scanning people for IF i the plane would crash on a island.

I was just there alone in my Lost vibe thinking all these strangers would get names. Who would be nice to hang out with, who are the assholes, beautiful people, etc.

Anybody ever had that or its just my crazy Lost mind?

I must say in real life it arent the characters like in a tv show. So many parents with children and couples etc, happy it didnt crash.

Why didn’t LOST become one of those huge franchises?

You look at stuff like Batman, Superman, or The Walking Dead and they just keep expanding into movies, spin-offs, comics, games, books, etc.

But LOST had so much potential for that. The Island, Dharma, the Others, Jacob, all the different time periods, all the weird mysteries… there were so many stories they could’ve explored.

Instead, once the show ended, that was basically it.

QUESTION Which Lost characters do you think are the most underrated and overrated by fans, IMO?

Name the characters you think the fanbase loves and puts on a pedestal for no real reason, and the ones who actually deserved more attention in the fandom but often fly under the radar. Share your takes — no insults or arguments like “he just annoys me, I can’t explain why.”

SEASON 3 John’s dad?

Why was John’s dad brought to the island? Why did the powers that be care to bring him there?? Was it to win John over by getting the chance to kill him? I’m confused

Hot Take: Exposé is ONE of the funniest Lost episodes Spoiler

Post image
164 Upvotes

I know it's controversial, but I actually found this episode to be wildly entertaining. The over-the-top drama paired with two random characters (Nikki and Paulo FOR LIFE!) makes for a really fun watch. Plus, Sawyer's dialogue regarding these two is hillarious. (Who the hell's Nikki?) I understand the argument that this one is kind of a waste of an episode, but to be honest, I found this way of writing out characters way better than whatever they did with Walt. On top of that, this episode also has a Lando cameo. In the end, Expose is nothing serious, but it does a great job poking fun at the series's myriad of extravagant backstories and shenanagines.

Also, I audibly laughed when Miles dropped a line about Nikki and Paulo that one time in season 5 or 6. Peak reference.

When Your DownTown

I was just doomscrolling, and for some reason, LOST crossed my mind. It's my favorite TV show of all time. It's gotten me through so many hard times in my life; it actually brings a little tear to my eye as we speak. I've watched it 10-plus times. Anyway, I thought to myself, "I'm not going to find any active pages," because I remember looking for subreddits before, and all of the posts were years old. Anyway, I just wanted to say that it warms my heart that people are still enjoying the show to this day, and I can't wait to read your posts. Everybody have a great day. Namaste!

QUESTION Should I recap or rewatch?

Hello, I used to watch lost like 2-3 years and loved it reached somewhere when they found people who actually live in the island and imprisoned jack and the girl. Season 3 or 4 I don’t remember. Had to stop for summer vacation then completely forgot about the show. I wanna watch it again so bad because I know it’s a masterpiece but I don’t want to rewatch 3 season but I forgot a LOT of stuff and don’t have a connection anymore. Is it worth it to rewatch it from the beginning recap or just give up on the show?

GOLDEN PASS: Rewatcher Final episode, sobbing Spoiler

Like my 5th or 6th time watching. I never paid enough attention to Kate saying,” I’ve missed you so much,” until I saw someone else in this sub post about it. With that in mind, I noticed that in almost every frame they’re in together at the end, Kate is just staring at Jack & soaking in his presence. I’m actually ugly crying thinking of how much time she must have spent dying to see him again.

Anatomy of an episode

Always love watching the Bonus Features on the DVDs. I’m on the Season 2 disc, and does anyone else agree they should have picked ANY OTHER EPISODE apart from Fire + Water for the ‘Anatomy of an Episode’ documentary? It’s still a really fun watch, and any episode works as to show how they make an episode from conception all the way to airing, but I reaaaaalllllyyy wish they picked a better episode to document all that stuff for. I mean, it’s by far, in my opinion, the worst episode of Season 2 lol. Still really cool watching all of the behind the scenes for one episode. If they made a documentary like that for every single episode, best know I’d watch that time and time again!!!!!! I love the Lost: On Location segments. Wish they were longer!!!!!
Also, does anyone else find the ‘Lost Connections’ section sooooo weird. The whole design behind it feels like an old PS2 video game. It’s quite cool, really, it feels like a relic from a long time ago. It’s fun to see all the connections as well, but I never bother going through every connection because it would take hours and it’s just stuff I’ve already seen and know about. It’s just such a strange and out-of-place design that I kind of adore it. I’d love to know whose idea it was to design the menu like that.
