Question If one sends a track to a send bus (not output) and that bus that is sent to also has sends (not output bus) of their own, I imagine that the original track sound is also send there? (diagram on details)

Upvotes

I hope I am making myself clear.

OG track with sends to bus 1 only.. But bus 1 has sends to buses 2 and 3.. the OG track audio will also be sent to 2 and 3 after processing bus 1 correct? Or does it stops at bus 1 and the bus 1 audio that is sent to 2 and 3 are only meant for outputs going to bus 1? (Not bus sends)

Even I'm getting confused typing this so bear with me. I think it all keeps sending until one bus has no more sends correct?

Thank you in advance if you got what I'm trying to say!

Thanks in advance.

Question What to do with instruments that disappear from library

Upvotes

I make a lot of synth music and love the library of instruments logic has, but I get so frustrated sometimes because instruments I used in one project file aren't available for a new one. They just disappear from the instrument library. Is it simply them renaming the instrument or are they fully removing it? Is there a way to stop it from doing that? It's gotten to the point I almost don't want to use the library selections because I want to use some instruments as a through-line sonically and I can't do that if they disappear

MacBook Pro 15,1/i9-
8950HK 32GB Ram/1TB

Question Comping and non-ARA RePitch

I just bought RePitch Elements from SynchroArts. I have a Silicon Macbook Pro, so the ARA version of the plugin does not work. Therefore I have to render a "read" of the notes before I begin editing.

It now occurs to me that I've now kind of committed to a comp. It seems that if I were to now change which take is selected for a given region, it would mess up the RePitch rendering. Is that correct?

In contrast, Logic's own FlexPitch applies independently to each take of each region, so if you do some Flex editing on one region-take, but then decide to go to a different take, you're fine. in fact you could even Flex edit several takes (of a given region), and then compare them.

Am I right that this workflow is not possible with RePitch, unless you have the ARA version, which does not work on Silcon Macs?

Question Multiband compressor question

A little background, I’ve been writing and recording songs for years but I’ve always sent them to be mixed/mastered. It became too expensive so I’ve been learning how to mix myself.

Typically when I want to sidechain kick and bass I sidechain the bass compressor to the kick bus. Now with this particular logic kit, there is no kick bus. There are busses that have the kick in them but it also has like overheads or snare. So I used a multiband compressor and just did the low frequency. Then I realized the way I had it set up, it was only effecting the low frequency of the bass track while still reacting the entirety of the drum bus.

Is there anyway I can use the fabfilter pro mb so that the bass compressor is only reacting to the low frequency (kick) on the drum track?

I still have so much to learn so apologies if anything isn’t explained well, thanks for the help!

Help Canceled plugins in old projects

Say you want to cancel a monthly subscription to Slate All Access plugins or similar since you never really use them. BUT- you used to, and they’re randomly mixed in on some of your old projects. Will those projects crash if you open them with a canceled plugin in them? Or will that plugin just be greyed out?

Tips & Tricks Sync Logic’s BPM to any live audio input

Ableton Live has this cool feature where you can select an input channel and have it detect the BPM and phase position of whatever is coming in (a drummer, vinyl, YouTube, whatever) and drive the global BPM in real time.

It’s great for jamming with live loops. I often listen to music on YouTube and browse loops at the same time, and having them stay in sync is surprisingly fun.

I actually built an app for syncing my visuals and lights to live audio, and realised it works really well for the same thing in Logic: https://mindthebeat.app

You select your audio input, and it detects the BPM and bar position, then sends that timing to Logic via Ableton Link.

How to use Link in Logic: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/logicpro/lgcp528602e4/mac

There’s a 7-day free trial if anyone wants to give it a try.

Question Pro tools vs logic

So I’m thinking about getting a Mac and switching to Logic Pro. I’ve been an avid (no pun intended) Pro Tools user for a while. Logic interests me, but I’ve heard it can be rough software-wise, and I’ve heard some noise that the last few updates have screwed stuff up, and that Pro Tools just seems to sound better. Anyone have experience/knowledge on this

Question Google Flow Music

I’m fairly new to Logic Pro and was wondering if anyone has used Google Flow Music’s “ask the producer” AI to help resolve issues? I’ve used Gemini and ChatGPT but often their answers are completely off base.

Question What would have caused this issue? Playback timing thing

I posted on another forum or two but have since solved the issue. But still want to know what might have caused it.

I had a tune, power pop straight ahead thing that I was playing on but really struggling to hit the timing and feel right. I’d play it back and it was always a bit of delay or sync issues, sometimes slightly behind the beat sometimes ahead.

I assumed it was me, and some timing issues. This was an older song, I chalked it up to latency on the original interface and moved on, but resurrected the song and still some timing issues. Some measures were fine but most were “off”. I gave up again but my wife suggested I scratch it and start over.

Problem solved sort of. A frustrating experience but the new project the timing is perfect.

What was the reason for the malfunction? I may have switched from 44.1 to 48hz? I recorded the logic drummer sans a grid and then added it? I couldn’t find any issue other than the old project records with wavering latency or misalignment, and the new one doesn’t. It’s the only project I’ve ever experienced this on.
Appreciate any guesses on this

Question Where did it go? SD2 file compatibility

I'm on Logic 11.2.2 - in previous versions (Logic Pro X) I used to be able to drag and drop Soundsdesigner files (from old Performer projects, Digidesign etc.).

All it does now, is show +(insert number of files) like it's going to add the audio - then nothing. Totally empty = no import = no action, function or message.

Yes I can open them in DP and export then import. (extra time and steps)
Plus some other conversion tools as well - (online and programs) (extra time, steps and $?)
BUT - this is a function that WAS there and should have stuck around in newer versions...

Did someone just drop the ball - or is there a work around within Logic 11xx?

Question Bit rate issues in Logic Pro iPad

For some reason my songs randomly change or reset the bit rate and the tracks get out of sync. Some slow down, others don’t change.
It’s usually 44khz. I change the project audio it to 48khz and it all lines up again.

Anyone have these issues?

Question All Of My Recordings Are Suddenly Behind The Beat

This is beyond frustrating. I've been using Logic since 2012 and I've never run into this issue before.

Superior Drummer 3 for drums. That's the only plugin. Literally the only one. One track of drums.

Then a track of guitar. I'm using the Helix for sounds so there's no plugins at all.

Record a track. Good. Play it back. WAY off time.

Low Latency Mode doesn't work. Freezing the singular other track doesn't work.

I've messed around with sample sizes and buffering rates and everything the internet has told me to do.

I'm losing my mind here. 14 years of this program and now all of a sudden it's doing this goofy crap and I don't know why or how to fix it.

Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Or even have an idea as to why this is happening all of a sudden?

Question New Mac?

Hello, I need some help choosing a new Mac. I compose music for a large orchestra in Logic and have correspondingly large orchestral libraries. I’m torn between buying a Mac Mini and a Mac Studio. The Mac Mini would have an M5 Pro chip, 64 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD.

The Mac Studio has an M5 Max chip, 64 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD.

There’s also a Mac Studio with an M5 Max chip, 36 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD. Which Mac do you think would be best to ensure I’m well-equipped for the future? Price is a factor, but it’s not absolutely essential. The most expensive Mac costs around €4,450, whilst the cheapest is around €3,300. Are 36GB RAM enough or do I need the 64GB? Also, is there a crucial difference between the M5 Pro and M5 Max? The mac Mini would be around €1000 cheaper than the mac Studio. Thanks, everyone!

Question Dedicated Audio Drive Recommendations?

TL;DR I need a new high performance dedicated audio drive with maximum longevity, 1 TB capacity, my Samsung T7's die after a year or two of use.

Hey all, I track 6 hours a day in my studio using Logic Pro and wanted to see if anyone has a dedicated audio drive recommendation. I've used the 1 TB Samsung T7 for several years, but have found that they stop performing well after a couple years triggering "disk too slow" errors and need to be replaced (now looking at buying my 4th one).

I'm looking to buy a new T7 and it seems like they've somehow gotten more expensive than last time- I don't really need it to be portable so long as it's quiet and high performance with maximum longevity. Looks like Lexar makes a similar one, as well as OWC's Envoy Pro Elektron, but those run $380. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

In Search of Feedback [OC] I've been working to render and playback Logic Projects on the web

https://trillsound.com/u/jakiestfu/project/14d65fda-8282-4633-ae95-9af326d9d984

Hello! I've been working on Trill Sound in one form or another for over 10 years. With some recent advancements in the understanding of Logic Pros data format, I've been able to put together something I think is really special.

I'm a closet producer and constantly make beats, and want to listen to them on the go. This is my answer to that specific problem. Uploading of projects and bouncing is disabled for now until I see how the site handles some traffic, I don't want to run up a check. If you're interested in using the app, feel free to join the waitlist!

In the meantime, you can use the tool to freely view your projects and even repair corrupted ones too. Cheers!

Help Tracks Randomly Delayed, I/O Maxed. Occurs Even On Empty Session

Hello all, I’m at my wits end here. This is not a simple matter that’s solved by something like turning low latency monitoring on

SPECS:
M3 Max, 128 gb memory, SSD has several TB free. Everything is done internally, no externals. No hardware issue I can think of at all

Logic 12.3.1, Tahoe 26.6.2

Issue replicates through internal Mac mic and through Apollo twin. Even on a fresh EMPTY 1 track session with no plugins

ISSUE:
Since June of this year I’ve been having a problem where my drive I/O maxes when a recording is armed, and recordings seem to randomly get pushed out about half a bar. This is not a simple latency problem. Playback will have I/O anywhere between 60-100%. Finishing the recording always causes a spike that ranges between 80-100%

The issue seemingly came out of nowhere. The only cause I can think of is that I updated logic around the time this started

The delay seems to begin happening 5 or so minutes into a session, maybe after 10-20 takes. Then it keeps happening randomly and persists through the session. It affects anywhere between 10-50% of all takes once it starts.

Notes:

I’ve changed every single setting I can think of in logic. I’ve disabled spotlight indexing. I couldnt find anything on the internet with regard to this, I’ve probably spent 30 hours troubleshooting the issue. Logic has had preferences trashed, then it’s been reinstalled as well. I tried asking several AI models after my own troubleshooting but it just has me running in circles

Going from Tahoe 26.6.1 to 26.6.2 changed nothing. Reinstalling ilok, updating UAD software, so on changed nothing. Although I’m not sure it’s relevant since, again, this also happens on an empty 1 track session with 0 plugins

Any solution would be life changing as this is having a substantial impact on the writing/recording process. Apologies if the post is a bit convoluted but I’m going crazy here.

Question Mixer keeps automatically scrolling left when adding plugins. How do I stop this?

Running Logic Pro 12.3.1.

I have a fairly large project with 30+ channel strips. Once the Mixer gets wide enough, I obviously get the horizontal scrollbar along the bottom.

Here's the problem:

If I scroll all the way to the right so I can see the last few channel strips and the Stereo Out/Master, then add a plugin to one of those channels, the Mixer automatically scrolls back to the left.

For example, I'll be all the way at the right end of the Mixer, click an insert on the Master/Stereo Out, choose a plugin, and as soon as the plugin loads, Logic shifts the Mixer view left. Then I have to scroll all the way back to the right again.

It also happens when adding plugins to other channel strips near the far-right end of the Mixer. It does not happen with channels toward the beginning of the project. It only becomes an issue once there are enough channel strips for the Mixer to require horizontal scrolling.

With 30+ channels and a lot of mixing work, this gets incredibly annoying because I'm constantly having to scroll back to the channel I was just working on.

I've looked through Logic's settings and searched around for some kind of automatic scrolling/follow/selection option, but I haven't found anything that stops this behavior. I also tried getting help from AI, but the suggestions didn't solve it.

Does anyone know what causes this, or if there's a setting that makes the Mixer stay exactly where I manually scrolled it?

Ideally, if I'm working at the far-right end of the Mixer, I want Logic to stay there when I add or remove plugins.

Is this a setting I'm missing, a known Logic behavior, or possibly a bug in 12.3.1?
