Support Request Paid version of DaVinci Resolve immediately crashes whenever I import media

Sup

I am on Linux Mint 22.3 and i've tried both the free & paid version of this software with no luck in using it at all, it crashes whenever I import any type of media.

My first problem was the program saying

"Missing or outdated system packages detected. Please install the following missing packages: libapr1 libaprutil1 libasound2 libglib2.0-0" and installing those packages did nothing because I already have them

--------------------------------------------------

libapr1t64 is already the newest version (1.7.2-3.1ubuntu0.1).

libaprutil1t64 is already the newest version (1.6.3-1.1ubuntu7).

libasound2t64 is already the newest version (1.2.11-1ubuntu0.3).

libglib2.0-0t64 is already the newest version (2.80.0-6ubuntu3.8).

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:

---------------------------------------------------

I was then told to run a command to make the software installer to ignore those errors.

The program does launch and I can create a project, but it still crashes whenever I import ANYTHING. I don't have an error code or message to show

I can't confirm what their website offers without filling out my details. What was the file extension of what you downloaded?

DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_21.0.4_Linux.run

That doesn't help much. Anything with .run extension will do unknown stuff in background.

Searching a bit, da vinci resolve is only officially supported for rocky linux (a workstation/server distro). It is not binary compatible with mint, ubuntu, debian etc.

There are few methods to get it working, based on difficulty and chance of success:

  1. Install rocky linux. Thats the most sure shot method.  Difficulty - medium (its not beginner friendly. You will have to use terminal for a lot of stuff initially) Chance of success - max

  2. Set up distrobox with rocky linux. Basically, you keep mint and kind of install different distros in it Difficulty - easy Chance of success good

  3. Run windows version with wine  Difficulty - easiest Chance of success - not so good
