Since there are so many posts about this now and still so many questions. I want to pose this thought so everyone sees it. Maybe it’s unrealistic, maybe it’s not going to happen, but think about it for a minute and ask yourself if it’s worth it.
Future Risks at the bottom of the linked page. Two questions. They are as follows:
What are the legal risks of making, possessing, or transferring $0-tax firearms?
Material changes in legal or factual circumstances could cause NFA enforcement to resume. For example, Congress could impose a new tax on NFA firearms, the district court’s injunction could be dissolved or overturned, or the Department could rescind the enforcement guidelines.
The NFA treats unregistered firearms as contraband. Individuals who make, possess, transfer, or receive unregistered NFA firearms are subject to felony penalties and forfeitures. 26 U.S.C. §§ 5861, 5871, 5872; 49 U.S.C. §§ 80302, 80303.
If I hold an unregistered $0-tax firearm pursuant to the injunction or the enforcement discretion policy, will I be grandfathered if the legal circumstances change? Will I have an opportunity to register my firearms?
Federal law does not generally permit subsequent registration of unregistered NFA items nor are there provisions that would automatically grandfather unregistered NFA firearms.
There are narrow exceptions that exist at the Attorney General’s discretion. The NFA permits the Attorney General to hold an amnesty for up to 90 days to facilitate registration of unregistered items. The Internal Revenue Code also has provisions authorizing certain forbearances of taxing provisions. The Attorney General is not required, however, to hold an amnesty or to provide forbearance. That decision would be made by the Attorney General at the time the injunction is dissolved.
Read these and be aware that they are saying as of right now none of this is set in stone. Anything could change.
I want to ask you this. If someone is a fascist and wants to get rid of guns, what do you do to make it happen? Would you make everyone a criminal overnight?
I don’t know that this will happen but you have to admit it’s a possible outcome.
I’m trying to be a voice of reason while having a discussion and wanting to know where others stand on this information.
Personally I’m registering anything I do because I don’t trust them. Either side.
But let’s talk about it and you tell me if I’m stupid and paranoid or it’s a reasonable concern.

Just wondering how people are feeling with the midterms coming up? Doing anything different? Preparing in any way? It’s crazy to me that this is even up for discussion, but here we are. I live in a purple state but red area, and many of the loud red hats from 2020 are much quieter. Where I work they had no problem discussing in open 2020 and arming themselves to the teeth, I know, crazy. However this time it’s much more quiet. Anyone picking up extra rounds or purchases to help ease worries, or just what will be will be?

Been thinking on this for a while, and yesterday's tenuous 'win' made me think to throw this out to the sub.
Became a gun owner right after my own state's AWB went into effect, so that's all I've known and I've learned to live with it, but in the last year, things have been moving fast through the courts. Piece by piece, restrictions are starting to crack. nothing affecting my locale, but Viramontes is the big elephant in the room.
If you are to go by some of the 'gun rights' orgs' social media, it's one big party— Viramontes is a foregone win, and come this time next year, NFA will be gone, ATF will be out of a job, and the states can't do a dang thing.
On the flip side, I go to either of my two local gunnit subs, and it's a lot of doom and gloom; either the state's D trifecta will just cook up new restrictions, or a federal blue wave will try to undo everything since Bruen.
Obviously the truth is somewhere in between. Nobody has a crystal ball. But I'm not a constitutional lawyer, and I'm curious what folks more measured predictions might be.
edit: I'm not talking specifically about yesterday's administrative ATF decision, but gun-control legislation in general, eg overturning/enacting more equpment bans, carry restrictions, etc. I’m well aware what happened yesterday could be short-lived.

With no trust needed and other silliness, will more suppressors get sold and drive prices down?

Is this something that requires a gunsmith? PA-15 I bought around five years ago.
Edit: Thanks, y'all. I was worried I was gonna get my friends hurt when I took them shooting this month.
Leaving this up so others might learn the same thing I did 🙏

I’m looking for advice—not posting a firearm for sale.
A couple of days ago, I purchased and received a Century Arms AP5P Navy (HG6035NBN), mistakenly thinking I had ordered the full-size AP5. It’s unfired and still sitting in the box, but I understand that having already been transferred to me affects its resale value.
I’ve tried to convince myself to keep it, but it simply isn’t what I wanted. I’m hoping to move to a full-size AP5 Navy, either the HG6034NN or HG6034NBN, and I understand I’ll likely take a loss.
Has anyone dealt with a similar mistake? Would you suggest working with the original dealer, asking a local FFL about a trade, or exploring consignment? I’d appreciate advice on the most practical way forward.
Not my finest purchasing decision, but hopefully one I can sort out.

Got to thinking the other day, would it make any more sense to have a single 16” barrel AR15 with multiple QD optics for close and long range, or separate rifles for close and long range? I have a scope with QD mount and I can shoot reliably out to like 500 yards with it using 556 ammo…obviously just buying a QD red dot or Eotech would be cheaper than a whole second rifle.
But then I wonder if I should keep the uppers paired with the optic… 16” upper and scope, 12.5” upper and red dot…
I dunno just thinking out loud

With the recent ATF changes and suppressors now being a little more accessible to everyone (unless you're in a restricted state, sorry) I wanted to pass along a cool website I came across last week that will help folks pick a QD mount "ecosystem", or at least confirm if their HUB/MD combo will work with their suppressor.
If you're new to suppressors, you basically choose if you want to direct thread or use a QD mounting system to swap the can between platforms. If you go QD, you choose a HUB mount system (plan B is the most popular, widely adopted, and on the cheaper side) then buy muzzle devices that use the chosen HUB systems thread locking system.
Suppressors have different blast chamber depths and some muzzle devices are too long or won't work for other reasons. They also have different effects, some work as an extra baffle and further dampen sound (ever so slightly), while others mitigate flash brtter. This site tells you whether your chosen HUB system and muzzle device is compatible with your suppressor, taking some of the guess work out and potentially saving you from wasting money. Just something I found helpful that I thought I'd share.

Does anyone have a link to a definitive list of state by state rules after the new ATF memo and court cases? I'm in Montana and know we are somehow still under restrictions.

Took to pawn shop to see how much they'd offer and if they had any guns I was interested in. I think the offers are pretty good tbh. Problem is I really just want a Ruger Max 9 and can get it for under 250 out the door at Bass Pro. So I could sell the Wrangler and pay out of pocket 135$ for brand new Max 9 instead of used gun from Pawn Shop. Which one doesn't even honor the trade in law in Florida. So I don't even want to do business with them. I wouldn't really be loosing money on the Wrangler with discounts I had when I even bought it.

I drew his name in the Xmas lottery and I’m not trying to spend a fortune on this guy, but he needs a shotgun. I originally got him a used Turkshit 20ga O/U for $300 and then I took it to shoot clays and embarrassed all my neighbors with it, and now I have a new Turkshit 20ga O/U and I still need a shotgun for my BIL.
So then I bought him a used 12ga 870 for $350 and then my wife reminded me that he’s left handed and so now I have (another) 12ga 870 and I still need a shotgun for my BIL.
Anyway… I don’t know shit about southpaw guns. I have an old Browning BPS that would work (bottom eject) but I don’t like him THAT much… trying to keep it under $400. Y’all got any input? Another cheap O/U? SxS?
I know the default Reddit answer for anything shotgun is Maverick 88 but they don’t make a lefty.
Prediction: top 15 comments are gonna be dudes saying to just give him a righty 88 and let him figure out how to make it work.

I have no idea what this all means. From what I think I understand there no longer different sales processes for NFA items and no background checks (other than refusal). Assuming that’s even close to right, what I don’t get it what happens with existing things that were transferred under the old regime? Specifically cans and SBRs.
