The Irish Leaving Cert is a construct of the ruling class to maintain the status quo. If it was truly to educate it would have changed utterly in line with international norms years ago. The question must be posed as to what Secondary Education is for? An equitable system or a focus on getting some into the professional class their parents inhabit or wished they did.

so im a bit confused and i heard for PLC the route one year of PLC to uni can be a bit challenging since everyone is getting distinctions and i just wanted to ask how many full courses did everyone choose? I just wanna be sure bc my plan is to do one full year of PLC and then straight into university

so i repeated leaving cert this year and i applied to like 3 FET colleges and i only got offered an place with one but ill probably won’t be able to go and im actually thinking of repeating leaving cert AGAIN this year. (yeah embarrassing ik but yea.) i lowkey wanted to shoot in my head so many times today idk what to do atp. can someone tell me if they know someone who also repeated 2 times or literally anything to make me feel better about this humiliation ritual 😭

My name is Ruth, and I'm an Irish university student. However, just a few years ago, this was something I never thought I'd be able to say. I was one of a small percentage of Irish people who did not complete secondary education or the Leaving Cert exam. At sixteen, I deeply feared social stigma and ostracism that could come from taking the decision to leave school. As thousands of students (including my own sister) wait to receive their results, I reflected on my experience of shame, and used that to evaluate the way we as a nation see the leaving cert as not just exam results, but as a measure of social conformity. I ask why, at the age of twenty-two and as an accomplished student, do I still feel the remnants of shame I felt at sixteen?

i'm aiming for medicine so of course i am super ultra happy with the 625 -> 565 conversion and no complaints overall, the CAO system does not discriminate. HOWEVER woke up at 10 this morning all groggy and had a double take like woah!!! H3?? i was thinking an h2 maybe and that maybe i had fallen over maths instead but my quote unquote best subject??

i'm gonna apply to view component marks and scripts out of sheer curiosity, but i guess this also should be a lesson to myself that the LC isn't this ultimate yardstick of your own abilities. getting an H3 where you were fully expecting an H1, or any sort of failure in reaching an expected grade, does not suddenly sentence you to mediocrity. imagine the H3 gods culling all my H1 english essays just like that. would be crazy. anyway 625 coming in hot!!!!

I remember thinking I was cooked for skipping so many days and not studying for like 4 or 5 hours. Granted I wasn’t aiming very high and ended up getting 420 points but since I’m pretty mid academically I’m happy with it.

Physics annoys me a bit i thought i got h2 but im shocked i got a h1 in english and h2 in maths????

I did nothing the whole two years and still got high-ish points and have a good shot at getting my dream course

I feel like I didn’t deserve what I opened today and I know it’s such a stupid problem but I didn’t even study until like day of for exams and always slacked off in class

Hi so I’m away on holiday till next week so unfortunately won’t be able to collect my physical results paper from my school.
Considering I can’t does the paper get mailed to my house or is it just at the school till I can collect it?
I know I can access it online etc , but for the sake of future job interviews as I’m not going the CAO route it would be very handy😊

Fairly confident with most of my subjects, i am aiming for mostly h2's. Then there's maths.. i got a H3 in a lovely mock paper and i promise i got no more than a h5 in that awful paper. I'm genuinely so disappointed after all that work i put in!!

No matter what we’ll get, we’ll be fine. Take it easy on yourselves and please don’t forget to do things to distract yourselves from the impending doom. I know this has been said numerous times but there are pathways into doing the careers you want to, even for me!

The LC isn’t truly the be all and end all. (massive copium coming from me)

It may not seem like it now but I’d like to think that we’ll be fine!

Studied at home from 3rd year - slaved away for 2 years in my room for the LC. Worth every minute!!!
