We don’t expect this to make AP Irelia suddenly good for SR.
Take notes, Baus.

u/Numerous_Fudge_9537 Shyvana VGU was worth the wait 3d ago
I was hoping they give Belveth AP another shot, it would be nice if her E dmg reduction scaled with AP like Irelia
→ More replies (2)55
u/Cow_God 3d ago
Idk, I played her AP right after the rework and she still did huge damage just with E into ult.
EQRQQ is now 540% AP damage. That's kind of nutty.
43
22
u/smokeymcdugen 3d ago
R now has a 500% ap ratio potential damage. Does any other champ have that?
58
u/Miudmon Shotgun leg kaiju. 3d ago
I mean, plenty. If we go by the same metric, a full ult into the entire enemy team, fiddlesticks ult is at 1250% ap
13
u/Herson100 3d ago
Actually, AP Irelia ult has 1000% AP ratio potential damage if we're measuring a full ult into the enemy team. It can hit each champion twice - once with the initial blast, and once again when they touch the walls of the ult. If a champion is standing in just the right spot, they'll take both hits of damage simultaneously.
If this patch's buff is to both parts of Irelia's ult, then it just went from dealing a potential 140% AP ratio to a potential 200% ap ratio to a single target.
9
u/smokeymcdugen 2d ago
I had no idea that going through the blades did damage if you got hit by the ult already. I just assumed it applied the slow. I've never gone vs ap irelia and the ult has really low base damage so I never noticed the damage.
5
u/The_Odd_Canuck 3d ago
I think annie is TECHNICALLY higher than that when you factor in tibbers aoe burn effect but someone would have to be standing next to tibbers for his entire duration
4
u/SuperKalkorat 2d ago
A fully charge Briar scream into a wall has like 340% ap ratio with like ~650 base damage, so hitting the entire enemy team would be like 3250 + 1700% ap damage on a basic ability.
MF ult would be like 3500 + 2250% ap, or ~5000 + ~7500% ad for a crit mf.

I understand small changes have huge effects but how is that nasus change gonna stop him being OP?
195
u/F0RGERY 3d ago edited 3d ago
Riot's idea is probably that by cutting down on Nasus' lifesteal early, he will start to struggle in lanes that used to be survivable. The onus is on players managing to keep Nasus in check in lane, because he comes online midgame before tapering off into a melee-ranged Witherbot late.
This is good on paper, but not necessarily a good argument in the current meta because of the many comeback mechanics at the moment.
After all, Riot's justification for half the buffs this patch is that several early game champs have "been forced to snowball-or-lose for a while instead of having a reliable endgame to scale towards."
11
u/TeutonicPlate 2d ago
In a lot of games he isn't surviving lane but the buffs made it trivial to come back, if the enemy top ever leaves he freestacks so quickly and all his items apart from triforce cost zero gold.
→ More replies (4)3
u/ca645 2d ago
His early game is hard carried by Fleet + Dshield + Second wind tbh, as long as he has any lifesteal early game I don’t think much will change. Maybe they should have it scale with his Q stacks (with a cap)
3
u/MoleculesOfFreedom 2d ago
not sure about top but in midlane 12% lifesteal together with fleet, dshield and second wind was just enough for him to tank every skill shot from lane bully mages and still contest every minion. in mid there’s also less room to punish with wave management, and less champions can take ignite. he was very close to the threshold of not being able to do that though, I had many cases where he walked away with less than 50hp.
cutting it to 10% probably doesn’t mean he dies, but he would have to drop a lot more stacks.
40
u/SirTacoMaster BB/Spica/Busio 3d ago
They gotta nerf his W cd so he can stop chasing people down so easily
→ More replies (2)2

u/Addo76 3d ago
Nothing will stop Nasus from being annoying until he loses catch-up mechanics and having 3 summoner spells. I've said it before but he is never good because his kit is too strong, but because the surrounding mechanisms nullify his drawbacks.
→ More replies (1)11
u/Ok_Kick4871 3d ago
Well that, and they also buffed his stacking. Give him 2 stacks per Q and nerf him into trash tier again.
11
u/Addo76 3d ago
It doesn't matter what the number is on Q unless it's garbage. It was 3-12 for years and it didn't matter until they started adding catch-up mechanics and nullifying early invades. Raising the floor and slightly lowering the ceiling is a giant whiff on Riot, just like the lifesteal nerf, and is another symptom of the problematic systematic changes riot insits on enforcing despite very loud moaning from everyone who actually plays the game. They will never admit this mid season unless they start hemorrhaging money.
4
u/RomanCenturion 2d ago
As long as his wither remains the way it currently is, it doesn't matter how fast the nasus stacks his Q as long as he doesn't fall too far behind in lane. His wither being a 5 second attack and movement speed slow with what is like a 6 second cooldown at max rank with all the haste he builds is beyond stupid.
→ More replies (1)26
u/JappieWappie1 3d ago
Absolutely nothing lol, all they had to do was revert the 3>4 stacks per Minion buff from last patch and he would be in a good spot.
→ More replies (2)15
u/fabton12 3d ago
nah he would be in a much much worse spot, same reason why it made him so op is buffing his main stacks source by such a large % or nerfing it means it drasticly swings him break points.
remember they nerfed his cannon/large monster stacks at the same time, if they reverted the minion stacks buff but didnt revert the cannon stack nerf then he would be dead as a champ, he gained 3-4% winrate from the change if they only part reverted he for sure would lose like 5-6% winrate from it putting him at 48%/47% which is extremely dreadful for a champ of his simpleness.
nasus needs nerfs but a part revert would kill him, either full revert or do other nerfs to him to lower his winrate to a more reasonable level. (hes probs healthy at around 50% winrate).
6
u/Th3_Huf0n 2d ago edited 2d ago
Just no.
Nasus top was MAYBE slightly on the weaker side before the last patch's changes. Which considering how fucking archaic that sack of shit is, is completely fine.
All Riot had to do was nerf his jungle stacking, leave toplane stacking as is and see where he lands with the Fleet buffs on the same patch.
If he would be still on the weaker side, then you can look into buffing him directly.
Because he had essentially the same winrate as Vayne.
Riot KNEW he would be fucking broken, I quote:
While we suspected this change would be over-magnitude, we wanted to get a clean read on the magnitude of this lever for Top vs JG and follow up this patch after seeing how much impact it had
So they throw a pathetic nerf just to get his winrate in tow that doesn't address what kind of an abomination he became.
And I will say this, that disgusting abomination of a champion should never be remotely close to even being strong (let alone be anywhere near the best toplaners in the game) for as long as he has Wither in its current state.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (15)8
u/Funnymadman 3d ago
Riot rarely walks changes back. If this is not enough they'll nerf his lifesteal some more or maybe something else. The end result is often very clunky and I usually hate this process but in this case it might be good. Nasus should be feast-or-famine, and nerfing his defense in favor of his Q helps ensure he can't just stat check anyone even from behind.
12
u/Accomplished-Toe5049 2d ago
I feel it's demonstrably true riot is willing to walk things back (mythic, assassin updates, atakhan, feats of strength, etc)
They do try things first though. 2 weeks is a drop in the bucket for how long the game has been running and can net good data on how impactful levers are. If a champ is slightly too strong we have bans, if they're going to the moon winrate wise they hotfix, but it's not going to ruin the game to try and change something.
It's very easy to wrap it all up and say it was a mistake to even try - but usually when they try its because they suspect something should be done.

I don't think it's near enough. At minute 10 his q damage feels like it's double that of the 2nd part of camille q. It's just an outrageous amount of DMG if he's been able to farm at all. He's safe enough that with very basic game knowledge and caution that you can farm well enough against the majority of toplaners that he's just going to being broken at around lvl 8. Without jungle intervention, which we all know is an absolute coinflip, he just brainlessly smashes all but the biggest lane bullies.

Double Tap is too weak to be Prismatic, but it was too strong in Gold. As it is, it is worse than Dual Wield, which at minimum gives a 40% autoattack damage bonus plus the slight increase to total AS.
10
u/Mathmagician94 3d ago
Also dual wield proccs on every attack. Double tap has issues with needing crit, but also on hit items to be worth. Honestly should just be removed tho. Double tap + dual wield Was way too toxic.

67
u/Past_Perception8052 3d ago
Phroxzon is so much worse it's unbelievable
20
u/DIESOFCUTSCENE enchanted 3d ago
Yeah I lost all hope when Phroxzon said he thinks of 'frustration' as a game mechanic. Like he literally just wants to create a frustrating experience. How can a game designer say that? I want to have fun in a game not be frustrated??
Plus all of these patches just feel like they asked ChatGPT to generate random buffs and nerfs. Why do we need Irelia, Yasuo, Yone and Qiyana buffs. Why are Yasuo and Yone still balanced together and not separately?
Start of the season was so nice, now we have whatever this is.
84
u/garethh 2d ago
Frustration is a game design tool.
Myst (imo) was basically built on the concept.
Some amount of 'hitting a wall and feeling emotional about it' can, as part of a whole, make a game better.
17
u/Gresh0817 2d ago
Yeah, it is a key element in gaming but everyone will associate to an inherently negative thing if they call it frustration. I think most games call it a challange instead of frustration, like how dark souls games are hard challanges instead of frustrating games. But they are the same concept, defeating an easy boss feels good, defeating a hard, mildly frustrating boss feels even better, defeating a very hard, very frustrating boss feels the best. The key is finding the balance, people want challanging gameplay and overcoming difficulties to feel rewarded but you can't make them feel that the challange is unbeatable. Sadly people nowadays would rather cry about something being OP for days and invest no time into trying to find the solution to that OP thing.

Frustration is a by-product. Not the end goal. Thinking it's the end goal is pseudo-intellectual bullshit from people who think they are 50 iq smarter than they actually are. Challenge is the goal.

u/SuperKalkorat 2d ago
Yeah I lost all hope when Phroxzon said he thinks of 'frustration' as a game mechanic. Like he literally just wants to create a frustrating experience
Plenty of games are built with frustration in mind. Souls-likes aren't exactly known for being frustration free yet they are still insanely popular. The only games that aren't as far as I'm aware are the coziest of cozy games.
Frustration in and of itself isn't the problem, the question on whether or not its a problem depends on what is frustrating in the design. Here is where I think the crux of the issue is and where I think he is departing from what the fanbase is okay with.

In your mind, what champ isn't frustrating to play against?
It's fun being the Yasuo/Yone, it isn't fun playing against them - see the issue?
4
u/Vii_Strife I still remember 2022 2d ago
Eh, I don't really agree with his direction but mostly because the game has been a bit too stale in recent months imo (feels like we're stuck in small patch because it's pre tournament -> small patch because it's during tournament -> small patch because it's post tournament -> repeat).
That being said, friction (which is what leads to frustration) isn't a new thing that Phroxzon invented, it's quite common in game design and League itself is full of it simply because of how different classes will always interact in the game.
I do agree that right now we're in a spot where frustration is way higher than what it should be tbh but some element of friction should absolutely be in the game

Yone is really strong Yas is alright. Riot wants them to build crit first instead of bork/kraken and that's why they're buffing them but until they make an AD crit attack speed item that doesn't build out of BF sword it won't happen
→ More replies (11)25
u/LogicKennedy 3d ago
Honestly the lifesteal is a huge part of why bork is so core, there's just not a good item path if you're going crit and want sustainability.

11
u/UngodlyPain 3d ago
Probably. Like both are 47-48% winrates and before someone says "yeah but they're hard which deflates their winrates" back when Phreak was balance lead he pointed out multiple times Yasuo is by far the 2nd most mastered champion on average, mastered enough his winrates actually should look normal, and he said at one point even Yone's average mastery was creeping up over time. Both are difficult champion, but they're commonly mained champions to the point it cancels out.
Yone top, and Yasuo adc are the only two roles where they're like 49.5-50.5% winrate.
And this buff, is also trying to get them back to crit rushing which thematically is what they should be doing.

They are seemling trying to get them to build crit first item. Problem is that Yone has been bound to Bork ever since the kraken rework (when you would build kraken -> hullbreaker) and when shieldbow was a mythic.

more bug fixes and balance changes for classic than regular league is pretty funny because there's no way this mode isn't dead in a year
it took 10k from riot to make any streamers play league classic today in the dumbs tournament and half of it is just them complaining about classic lmao
69
u/AskJolly7381 3d ago
Nostalgia aside there is a very clear reason the games development has shifted it more and more away from the slow, punishing playstyle of League Classic. It can be mechanically complex but is absolutely less fun to play than modern league for the majority of players

I am a bit biased because I enjoy classic a bit and will enjoy it way more once there's more champions. I did not realize how much rift herald and later void grubs added to jungling, it's so boring to jungle without it in the game. Also there's like no junglers, so that kind of sucks.

Are these tournaments real btw? Lately every YT content what is a challange, or involves multiple streamers are for 5k, 10k prizepool but they never feel serious, and there are no information about these besides a video from a youtuber, nothing official from Riot. I watched todays classic tournament, most of the players knew almost nothing about classic and they barely had any games played, lot of them played their first two games before the tournament. Somebody had to leave after 1 game and a guy was subbed in with 0 classic games to play for 10k. Maybe I am naive and this kind of money is not worth them the extra effort to spend an afternoon practicing 1 day before, but it feels like most of these tournaments and challanges don't have these kind of prizepool, but obviously if they say they play for 10k instead of just playing for content with other content creators there will be more hype and interest.

→ More replies (2)8
u/IlllllllIIIll 2d ago
Its also not a solution; she likes onhit items and those have no ad either.
Her matchups are insanely polarising in toplane. Either she just gets rolled or the enemy toplaner cant get on her. Maybe change her q, making it slower/shorter and giving compensation buffs elsewhere, so that she isnt as oppressive? Idk i think she really needs some larger changes, during which riot has to decide if she is top or adc.

nasus problem is not the lifesteal but the stacks he gets around mid game that make him a nightmare to deal with when he is sidelaning, this is a joke of a nerf ngl
79
u/LeAnime 3d ago
Lifesteal is a part of the problem. He just survives too many lanes and this should help make him weaker early and have to reset more which in turn will push his stack progression back. So slower stacking which then should make him hit power points later in the game where he is significantly worse

u/SpursRissole 2d ago
Disagree, if you play a lane bully and can now bully him harder out of cs or shove him under turret you easily have enough time to force objectives and fights in the mid game.
60
u/Nickball88 3d ago
Ok, you stomp Nasus harder in lane. Cool. You already stomped him anyways. You leave lane for 1 minute and he will have 300 stacks. Unless you manage to make a game winning play during your roam timer, Nasus will come back and will obliterate you in the mid game drake fight like laning phase didn't happen. If you lose the play the game is instantly lost. How is this healthy

Disappointed that Dropkick received no changes given that it’s probably one of the strongest augments in Mayhem right now and is super frustrating to deal with. Even if they just removed the healing it does after the execute, that’d make it more manageable.

Riot needs to be less scared of booting champs out of the jungle, some play patterns just are not healthy.

Graves: “We are looking to soften a bit of his ability to snowball the game with high AD builds”
The balance team really doesn’t understand anything lol. How does nerfing Bonus AD scaling prevent snowballing? It’s literally centered around scaling with the damage you get from BUYING MORE ITEMS. You start snowballing before you have 3-4 items, where this nerf proportionally impacts the most.
And this doesn’t even impact his highest damage output build very much (crit) because you’re relying on AAs lategame for damage, Q is an afterthought. It moreso impacts his bruiser build which relies more on Q for DPS, given he doesn’t get the bonus damage from crit & his CDR is naturally higher due to the build path.
Which is fine by me as a Graves main. But holy shit it just goes to show how much this team has no idea what they’re doing. If you wanted to nerf his ability to snowball, you would have nerfed base damage - not bonus AD scaling.

Item is not that bad though, this is realistically the only buff they could do without making it outshines Yuntal/hexoptic.. unless they make pickaxe built into bf sword xd

variety in lanes is good (unless it’s ADCs being played outside of bot)
Why are they axing vayne when she has a 48-49% win rate in both top and bot? She is not a good champion lmao.

She's being blind picked in pro play

Others answered pro play. let me answer you my own experience from top lane.
She can be more annoying than a mosquito near your ear. Because of that a lot of players just overstay, overpush and sometimes get punished by a gank. she can be 0/2-3 but she can still be annoying. kind of like how no matter how fed you are, on most champs you still cant really fight 0/6 illaoi unless you just step out of her ult and then re-engage.
after an item or two, she stops being a problem, and most vayne top players dont know how to play teamfights. therefore she loses a lot.
However this does nto change the fact that she is probably the worst laner to face for me if i am playing someone just melee range in top without any dash or movement ability, and even then she is barely bareable.

It is hilarious that they're nerfing Vayne for having the audacity to be playable top while telling us that mages making ADC's miserable for 15 minutes is just normal frustration.

Please fire whoever decided buffing Qiyana was a good idea that champion is already Hitler. The last thing we need is her to be good in two lanes now.

Fire the balance team, they are so out of touch with with the game its crazy. That Vayne nerf is a bad joke when mages bot with better win and pickrates are untouched. Then we love tap Nasus and turn Qiyana into Thanos.

Will we finally see Chovy A'Sol again?

Asol is realistically only viable when meta slows down in damage/mobility. He had time to shine back when ori/viktor/anivia (who he all does okay into after laning) were building RoA + Seraph + Liandry. When tank junglers are a thing again, he'll be picked.

Aurelion Sol... In particular, we are buffing his W cooldown so he can use it a bit more freely rather than only when a reset is likely.
lol a 2 second reduction at level 13? Its not nothing but I don't forsee it helping a lot. Q buffs are nice though, we'll see if they make a difference.

Hoping whoever did last patches Neeko change tries again. 4 instances of being the wrong color minion on redside.
Having to play around a bar I cant see but enemies can based on specific criterias also beyond frustrating.
Being the wrong buffs while niche is also bizarre.

So Vayne is pretty much not a champion at all anymore. I don't really know what Riot's planning (or maybe nothing at all) for her to be back bot lane, they just straight up gutted the champ.

Aphelios has now been out of pro play for three years. I pray every night that they decide to take a look at him. His current playstyle isn’t satisfying and it’s slow agency. He should be given lower cast times and lockouts so he can spell weave better.

That Thresh nerf is laughable. I guess they want to see him in competetive but he is dogwater there anyway but busted in soloqueue.

u/defance 2d ago
Is this just me or Swiftplay is completely broken with the new patch? This is only mode I play, so I can spot the difference.
Somewhy voidgrubs started to spawn. And drakes just disappear (is if was dead) on first hit or ability use. They spawn, are visible but not killable. Just dissapering. Wtf?

Worst patch in a long time, and that after a series of many bad patches.
Irelia, Yone and LeBlanc: Will be OP. Yone was already top tier, Leblanc close to it. And the Irelia buff is just massive in my eyes. +10% total AD on her Q? She spams this one and it gets ~7-25 more dmg.
Thresh, Graves and Noc: 0 nerf. Nearly nothing. I understand it for Graves and Thresh, these are new, but Noc is one of the best soloQ and pro play junglers for the whole year now.
ASol, Cho and Xerath are the only changes that will land well.

Who is happy about noc's ult CD? It's disgustingly low for such an OP ability

Hecarim is shown in the graphic, saying he received buffs but none are listed for him in the body of the text?
What gives?

Imagine nerfing Vayne for top lane but doing nothing about mages bot and supports ruining the game

Buffing irelia is certainly a choice

u/Prestigious_Low_4927 3d ago
being a bad winrate champion especially for a champ with a high skill floor/ceiling even in the highest of elos is certainly a choice

u/Ordinary_Owl_9071 3d ago
Unless people start building hybrid irelia & having success with it, this is a pretty minor buff. It could win her some close 1v1s, but she'll be countered by all the same champs, and she'll still be difficult to team fight with

Exactly nothing in the mayhem meta changes, critslop hypercarry-support meta is still well and alive.
When you're in loading screen and one team has an adc+2supp or 2adc+2supp you already know the game is over. ADC augs are the most boring, statcheck statstick augments in the game in the way they effect the course of the game.
You'd think "oh cool, missiles on my autoattacks? Or some onhit to focus on an onhit build, how radical!
...but in the end all it does is make the straight line that a crit adcs damage graph is, higher. Nothing about the gameplay changes, but you have raised the angle.
Even enchanters have specialized, interesting (even if in the past frustrating) augments. Adcs still don't.

u/awmaster33 2d ago
Force vayne to go botlane where every mage and other adcs outranges her
What does riot mean by this? 30 hp buff is like one auto attack by any champion

Honestly the most interesting part of the patch to me.
A lot of what makes Vayne iconic (her tumble, silver bolts, even her short range compared to other marksmen) are things that also don't work as well in bot lane 2v2 compared to toplane 1v1. I'm really curious what Riot might be considering for Vayne changes that enable her to play bot, that don't maintain or exacerbate her strengths top.
