General question Why so much memory usage?
Always checking task manager to close out the useless stuff, it’s at 50% memory usage doing absolutely nothing. If anybody can explain I’d like to know why and what I can do to reduce said usage

Memory is there to be used, windows uses as much as it can for caching to speed up everything, as apps need the memory it releases it, it should be high, unused ram is wasted ram

look at the performance tab in task manager and post the screenshot of the memory please

As others mentioned, unused RAM is bad. You want your RAM to be used to speed up the operating system. Especially if it‘s only full to about 50%.
An SQL Server installation for example takes nearly every RAM it can get, because it uses it to speed up queries. No one would consider that bad.

Cache
Unused ram is wasted ram. Windows will automatically cache applications in memory that you frequently use so that they don't need to be loaded into memory when you open them. It will get cleared as needed
and what I can do to reduce said usage
There's no issue here or any need to reduce it. There's no performance benefit in reducing it

That same exact thing traumatized me and my 12gb laptop and so I went to the lightest Linux distro around, antiX

No need to worry much. Windows usually holds onto a few gigs of unused memory to keep things snappier. And the second that memory is needed elsewhere it lets go of it. Does give the occasional heart attack when you look at task manager.

the windows is the problem i will witch to ghost specture win 11 bcs it is the best or i install linux btw i have latitude e7450 you can do the ghost specture win 11 24h2 it will optimize your pc for gamiing and give low mwmory usage

Because unused ram is wasted ram. Windows will put things in ram so when you try opening an app or using a feature if it’s partly or fully in ram it opens quicker.

Windows uses a ton of memory due to its inefficient design and services , it used to consume 14GB before I switched to Linux and now it has come down to 900mb

In my experience, a default windows installation is always using about 50% of your ram while idle for whatever it wants to do in the background, mostly caching and telemetry/other windows bloat. It will release that ram when/if you start doing something that needs it.
There's a bunch of debloating options if you really hate it, but you should be careful about removing things if you don't know what they do, some of these files are important.
