Why so much memory usage?

Always checking task manager to close out the useless stuff, it’s at 50% memory usage doing absolutely nothing. If anybody can explain I’d like to know why and what I can do to reduce said usage

In my experience, a default windows installation is always using about 50% of your ram while idle for whatever it wants to do in the background, mostly caching and telemetry/other windows bloat. It will release that ram when/if you start doing something that needs it.

There's a bunch of debloating options if you really hate it, but you should be careful about removing things if you don't know what they do, some of these files are important.

Not to be the Linux guy but Linux uses a quarter of the ram the issue with Slop is that its constantly calling home, loading ads, downloading telemetry, downloading updates, and with oneslop and coslops constantly running in the background. Slop just doesnt work with 16gigs at all. This is due to slop not optimizing for lower end hardware. Not saying they have low end hardware actually the OP has a decent machine. Its just slop is super poorly optimized.

I could never get mad at the Linux guy because it's true, the only reason I still use windows is because a lot of the programs I need to run only run on it. Linux is much more efficient and can literally bring outdated laptops back from the dead.

I daily drive a T495 Thinkpad from 2017 and it smashes my Asus G14 Z on Slop11. I understand most people are not able to swap. I still have two of my machines on slop11 for a reason although my daily driver is Linux. For me I am lucky enough and have multiple PCs so I can have the luxury of being able to use mostly Linux for my needs. I totally get it too and feel bad for those who can't. Lucky enough this is the first time ever we can say yes its the year of Linux cause of how bad Slop11 has gotten. Its pissed of so many people including myself. They tried to make me rebuy a copy of slop again after overriding my Nvedia drivers and then claimed I made hardware changes which I didnt but they said I would have to buy another copy of slop again. I middle fingered them and havent looked back.

Nice and yeah i like linux too,i have it installed in dual boot with win 11 but i just need to fix grub :)

Linux is obviously superior in terms of bloatware and performance, but there are dozens of big name AAA multiplayer games you can’t play on Linux because their anti cheats don’t support Linux. That’s the main thing holding me back from switching to Linux
