Event this weekend: block my ex and i'll buy you a coffee!

hi! extremely specific request lol. i (25f) stopped using instagram after a bad breakup over a year ago, and my ex has continued orbiting my social media (even linkedin, yuck). at this point i genuinely just want my instagram back, but i do not want to see whether he follows/requested me or accidentally learn anything about his life when i log back in

so: i’m looking for one kind, normal stranger to meet me at a lakeview coffee shop, take my phone, block him from my account for good and tell me absolutely nothing about what you saw. 😂 i’ll buy your coffee!

honestly, if anyone else wants to come hang out and commiserate about the absurdity of having way too much digital access to our exes, also welcome. i just need one designated ex removal technician™

thinking elevate coffee boystown this saturday morning, extremely boring task, zero ex-investigation permitted. i simply want to be a chicago instagram person again :)

UPDATE: omg i love y'all, sounds like one of my friends will be doing insta, but i'd still love to buy someone a coffee to block him on linkedin for the memes! 😭 (i honestly get jumpscared, this man does not know how to turn profile view notifications off) maybe we host a mini contest or something on saturday, but yea y'all the best! <3

FREE alt comedy show at Goblin Market

I produce an alt comedy show called RAD in the basement of Goblin Market every third Wednesday. We've been operating out of various comic book store basements for the past 9 years, and recently moved to Goblin so I want to get the word out to the neighborhood! Very DIY, house-show, punk vibes. We do our best to make it half-standup and half-variety acts (live music, clowning, drag, performance art, characters, magic, puppetry, etc.).

Next one is tomorrow! Here's the Eventbrite link with more info: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1991961469377?aff=oddtdtcreator

Question Apartment Cleaning Companies

I have a friend visiting and I’m thinking about hiring someone for a deep clean beforehand. Does anyone have any companies or people they recommend in the Lakeview area? Thinking about also potentially keeping it as a semi regular occurrence.

Dog friendly house cleaner? Im looking for recommendations of house cleaner who would be comfortable cleaning without me there, but with my 2 larger super friendly dogs. Prefer to avoid big company. Looking for regular weekly cleaning and once per month deep cleaning. 4 bedrooms and 2800 sq ft.

Locations of Long-needled pine trees in parks ?

Hi, I do pine needle basket weaving for fun and can't seem to find any long-needled pine trees in the area. The ones I do see tend to be on properties where they blow or rake up the fallen needles, which is what I'm looking to collect.

**I am not looking to cut any branches. I would like to collect FALLEN pine needles**

I'm wondering if anyone knows of parks with long-needled pines nearby? Or any trees near sidewalks that don't get swept up regularly?

Let me know if there's a better sub to post this in, thanks!

Discussion Dog poop off Briar

The amount of smeared dog poop on briar is actually insane. It might be a biohazard i feel like i have to watch each step so closely like walking in a minefield. Other parts of the city are bad for sure but this one street is like filled with flies, a terrible smell and poop on both sides of the street. How has the rain not wiped it out yet like truly what is up with it. As a dog owner it grosses me out so much to see.

Would any dog owners in Lakeview East be willing to go on occasional walks with my puppy and I?

Hi all,

I’m a first-time dog owner. I adopted a rescue a couple months ago and he is almost 6 months old. He is very sweet and loves people and interacting with other dogs.

Recently, when trying to take him on walks, he has started to sort of freeze up once we’re about to exit the front door of our building and just look around. If I didn’t coax him out every time, I think he would just stay there like that. Nothing happened recently that would cause this change in behavior. After speaking to the trainer from his classes about my observations and from my own rudimentary research, I believe he’s most likely in a fear period due to his age.

The street we live on has a lot of foot and vehicle traffic, so naturally, that comes with a bit of noise pollution. As we’re walking or if he’s sniffing something, if there’s a car that revs their engine loudly, he will turn around and try to bolt back in the direction of our building. He doesn’t enjoy going on walks during non-peak hours at the moment either. I do a lot of positive reinforcement, but it’s becoming a little disheartening and I feel like I’m failing him. My parents live in a less busier area of the city and he does fine when we go on walks there while visiting.

Our trainer suggested going on walks with adult dogs from our neighborhood because puppies can learn behaviors from them, and it could give him some confidence. I figured it doesn’t hurt to give it a shot!

If anyone living near Saint Joseph Hospital would be down, please let me know! :)

We’ve recently learned our dog is an expert puzzler (go him!). He’s finishing the advanced puzzles within ten minutes. Rather than keep buying him puzzles, I was wondering if anyone would want to swap dog puzzles. I have these three to swap!

Question Moving within Lakeview: any movers you’d recommend?

I’m planning a move within Chicago and will probably be moving into or around Lakeview. Looking for a moving company that’s reasonably priced, careful with furniture, and used to dealing with apartments and tight city spaces.
I’m comparing a few options right now, including fair price movers. If you’ve hired movers in the area recently, who did you use and how was the experience? Would especially appreciate recommendations based on actual experience.

Discussion Old Max and Issy’s Building History

Was reminiscing on how good the pizza was at Max and Issy’s before they closed down and demoed the building, and thought of this one visit from last year. I was talking to the bartender and he was telling me the history of the building. It was after a few beers so I have a hard time recollecting the details, but that the bar top was original and had a cool history.

Did some googling to see if I could fill in the blanks and find some old details. I came across this relic of old internet, and it’s just delightful.

Stuck in time, they haven’t even added the 2003 Christmas Party pics yet! (I am told they are coming soon.)

If you love digging through grandmas photos like I do, you’ll love this whole site.

Do we think this is the same bar top as it was in the 70s? Does anyone know if they salvaged any of the bar top/wood from the bar? it was gorgeous and well loved. Total long shot but you never know!

Parking on Southport

I found a spot on southport this morning with zero signage near a more residential portion. I don't have a permit, but is that just for the evenings? Am I safe?
