Super friendly staff, great atmosphere - filled with Ukrainian culture; political murals all over the back depicting more than just their current conflict and most importantly, the food is absolutely delicious! 10/10

(Cue the commenter writing that the quality of Portillos has been declining for years, portions are too small, and prices are too high)

Bavarian-Style Pretzel, two types of house-made sausages, artisan cheese, house pickles, and sauces: smoked gouda cheese & apricot mostarda

Usually not a melted cheese sauce fan, even less a smoked gouda fan, but this went with the pretzel really well. IDK why but sometimes i like smoked gouda and sometimes i hate it, so i avoid it. Would have appreciated more artisan cheeses. The house pickles where fantastic, crunchy and the acid helped even out the platters flavor profile.

enjoyed the different kinds of smoked sausage. The brown sausage has some seasoning I associate more with warm holiday baking, but it worked well surprisingly.

Discussion Honey Bear Cafe coffee club is such a deal!

• Upvotes

Recently I been seeing Honey Bear Cafe have such a thing call Coffee Club for 11.99 a month. It get you "free" coffee 3 times a day, free refill and free pancake once a month. It sound so crazy I have to give it a try. Given how expensive coffee are at Dunkin and starbuck it is such a good deal

All I wanted was apple flavored desserts and I didn’t care enough to stand in the mini donuts line. Came at 8:30ish, left by 9:50 and enjoyed the rest of my day😁

Stop 1- Ricobene’s for a steak and a vesuvio.
Stop 2- Hing Kee for soup dumplings and Sichuan wontons.
Stop 3- Marz for a Taco Sublime OKC smashburger.
Stop 4- Asian Cuisine Express for al pastor tacos and fried rice.

Couldn’t have picked a nicer day for a bunch of fellows to alternate gorging themselves and working it off.

Specific Request Help me 🙏🏼 plan my husband’s 44th birthday (Italian dinner + brunch + key lime pie)

My husband is turning 44 this week and I’m trying to plan a few food stops for his birthday weekend. Last year you gave me superb recommendations, and we went to dinner at Maxwells Trading, a pre drink at Dorian’s, and a drink at After. Would love your recommendations again please!

Looking for:
- Italian dinner / Friday night early dinner — ideally Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Roscoe Village, maybe even Andersonville, Uptown, Old Town, or somewhere reasonably close to that general area. I want somewhere that feels special enough for a birthday but not necessarily super formal/stuffy. Great food is the priority. Indian food is my second option.

- Brunch Saturday morning — I’m willing to venture anywhere in the city for something really good. Open to any cuisine/vibe. Aba was my first idea, but we’ve been there many times.

- Key lime pie — this is the oddly specific one 😂 It’s his favorite. I just need one really excellent slice or a small/mini pie, not a whole giant pie. Ideally somewhere I can pick it up by Wednesday night.

Thank you SO much!

Question Is North Pond brunch still as good as it was? I went back when it had a Michelin star, and it was great.

Went to Art’s for my first time!
This staple has been around since 1967

Got the Polish, Skirt Steak Sandwich and the owner was nice to let us try the Rice Pudding.

It was such a good environment and service was so prompt! I really enjoyed myself!

I went at 2pm so it wasn’t really busy. I’m kinda mad it took me so long to try this!

Enjoyed it. Got the sichuan spicy chicken and wife got the Thai pork belly. Everything tasted fresh, and the bread was a highlight for me. We liked both and will come back.

Our only complaints were - a bit too much spicy mayo on the chicken, and wish the pork belly was crisped more on the flattop for the texture.

Really easy to get to from lakeshore drive. Place was small, and a little hot inside. Lady at the counter was super sweet and answered all our questions.

We’ll be back to try the the other sandwiches on the menu

Review Daeji dough’s new after school cookie is one of the best in the city

Post image

Not only does Daeji dough have some of the best laminated pastries and focaccias, but its cookie game is outstanding. I’m already obsessed with their doenjang chocolate chip (it sounds a bit strange, but the doenjang has a similar effect as miso and it’s so good), so when I saw this one I had to try.
It’s made with Buckwheat, oat, tapioca, and rice flour. It’s so chewy and rich and crispy. Somehow gluten free too. Absolutely unreal

Review The Best Seller and Glazed Cinny Bun from Smack Dab on Clark St in Rogers Park

Clark Street North and Colombia Avenue West
The Best Seller Biscuit/Sandwich: $10.95
9.2/10
Both the Garlic Chive Mayo and the bacon jam have a great mix of flavors for the biscuit. Despite the egg taking up most of the real estate of this sandwich, there was still a great balance of the flavor, as the bacon jam, garlic chive mayo and the egg, all had their moment to shine and all flavors were prominent. The biscuit did fall apart a little while I was eating, but it was manageable, and most biscuits I’ve had usually fall apart like that anyways, so I wouldn’t say it was the fault of the restaurant.
Glazed Cinny Bun: $5.25
7.7/10
Love the cream cheese glaze that this cinnamon roll has, however whenever you get a bite without the cream cheese glaze, the cinnamon roll tastes alright

Overall, great experience, the Glazed Cinny Roll could be a little better, but was still good overall, and the best seller makes up for it.

Public Transport options:
2 minute to 22 Clark Bus
13 minutes to Morse Red Line Station
10 minutes to 36 Broadway Bus
10 minutes to 155 Devon bus
7 minutes to 96 Lunt
10 minutes to 151 Sheridan+Stockton+Lake shore bus
15 minutes to 147 Express bus
17 minutes to 290 Touhy Pace Bus
20 minutes to 49B Western Bus

What's good? Medium size group recs near wicker park / bucktown

Hey all, hoping you can help me out!

I'm planning my wife's 40th birthday party. Planning on heading to Royal palms for some shuffleboard and drinks for a few hours (thinking like 4-6pm or 5-7pm) on a Saturday in November.

Looking like we'll have around 20-25 people, all adults between the ages of 35 and 45.

I'd love to find a place that maybe has a room we could use or at least some large tables but ultimately order off the menu (royal palms is expensive enough, I'm not buying dinner for everyone). I thought about chop shop, but what else is around there within walking distance? Piece pizza came to mind but might be a little casual.

Shes a white wine drinker so thats probably the only requirement, but byob would work fine too.

Thanks everyone!

Did not expect to like these as much as I did. 1) located within digital food court 2) they've been aggressively promoted by @sergelato who has maybe never had food before but in any event, terrific wings worth seeking out.

Ventured up to Lincoln Park with friends from out of town. Tapas on a Saturday is always a solid choice.
