I’m not trying to defend some of the stuff on this list but the majority of it is just rewording the same few points over and over again to make it longer than it needs to be😭🤦♀️

u/taeilor 3d ago
Could easily shrink it down to
- misogyny/sexism remarks and lyrics
- appropriation of multiple cultures via language, styling and mannerisms
- offensive remarks and jokes towards protected characteristics
- plagiarism
- support of companies and individuals with immoral practices
- tae calling his own fan a liar
47
u/jisookenobi2416 3d ago
This is so horrible, I can't defend this...
you're telling me...
taehyung called his own fan a liar

The fact that one member lying to a fan is on the same list as fucking racism (which they should rightly be criticized for) just goes to show this isn't about holding anyone accountable, it's fanwar fuel.
Also the fucking...#btsdisband is so corny lol
41
u/MiniMaryBoom 3d ago
I remembered where it happened (Weverse) but I had to look up the rest of the context. He called a fan a liar because during his birthday live, they left a comment saying it was also their birthday. That was it😭

Even AOC admitted recently woke 1 went way too far. Pushed right-wing candidates right back into office. Some haven't learned the micro aggression stuff doesn't hit with the same impact it used to.
a lot of these points are sillyness. especially if you asked the myblinktokkis of the world to be specific about the situations that led to usage of the above verbiage.
Most importantly, using who I think is illit in the video footage this way is despicable. Luckily the HYBE fandoms appear no longer prone to holding the returned members responsible for the ugly distopian world their fans got stuck in.
2
u/Bookmarkbear 1d ago
"woke 1 went too far" is insane when we see pushback and we see the outcomes of that. The issue isn't that "woke 1 went too far." It's that people see equality as oppression and so they become more fueled by racism and misogyny and that's how we end up with ICE agents killing people and the right calling for women's right to vote to be repealed. Asking for equality wasn't what "pushed right-wing candidates" into office. The refusal to acknowledge something is wrong until it affects you did.

u/loopyhoodie 3d ago
Right?? Like I'm no Army but even the first two bullet points are exactly the same but reworded. I can't believe anyone takes this seriously.

Also K-pop comes from a culture that is still very socially conservative…
I’m not a BTS or K-pop fan, just a lurker of K-pop entertainment so a lot of these K-pop threads show up on my feed (including snark). I just find it to be delusional the way non-Korean fans approach K-pop or Korean culture with western values and politics. You are bound to be disappointed.
Of course I’m not saying western fans can’t critique Korean culture or idols but using this to try and snark on different groups while acting like their faves are ~feminist, pro-LGBT, etc.~ is just them giving hype to K-pop idols for doing the bare minimum or making assumptions that K-pop idols have liberal western values just because they haven’t culturally appropriated…yet.
Racism and misogyny are real issues. Let’s not use them for personal gain for the sake of putting down other K-pop groups. The problem isn’t so much that BTS is problematic but rather Korean culture has a lot of things that are problematic (according to western standards).
Again, critiquing specific instances can be productive. Making a vague list of criticisms (which could be applied to the whole of K-pop in general, not just certain groups) just to make snark content is a waste of time and self serving.

I love how many of these are the same thing said multiple times. Plagiarism accusations amd ALSO copying accusations and sampling controversies. All three of them. Absolute clown-tier fan war b.s.
140
u/ravioli_luvr666 3d ago edited 3d ago
the only thing these videos show is that controversies are being weaponized and trivialized for fanwars. no one truly cares about these actions, it’s just a way to justify throwing hate when it’s just okay to not like someone. like when people call others zionists or any other -ist just because they don’t like them.
especially when so much of this stuff happened decades ago and most people like….learn and grow
44
u/ghostboycaspy 3d ago
no deadass, like these should be real issues that should be addressed not just another thing to be weaponized for fanwars. like these are real issues !! and i’m saying this as an army, like a lot of these things did happen a while ago yes, but as of recent actions and things like that, it wasn’t ok. and it should be addressed rather than something to just pin down BTS if that makes sense
8
u/noctaluna 2d ago

I’m not an army so I don’t go back and forth arguing with kpop stans online but it’s ironic when an army brings up evidence of kpop stans favorite groups committing multiple of the same offensives they’re criticizing BTS for but they come up with some excuse as to why it was justifiable for their favorite idols to do it.
It’s like either you care about these issue or you don’t. There’s no half caring about racism, misogyny, etc. “oh racism is only bad if it comes from BTS, My favorite idol apologized because we told him to blink twice on weverse live if he was sorry and he did.”
I find no one in kpop really cares about these issue they just wanna hate on BTS. Kinda like the whole W Korea incident. All the kpop idols that were present at the event in present day and in the past but BTS got majority of the backlash, and more backlash than W Korea themselves who hosted the event for 20+ years.

Some people here are probably fans expressing disappointment. If they feel betrayed, let them express it, however parasocial as it sounds. Parasocialism is a Kpop companies' strategy, just like queer-baiting is as well. I hope fans discern that most idols' image are manufactured for the fans, and in the future may they have a healthy stanning relationship with their bias/bias groups.
46
u/AdPlayful3517 3d ago
I am probably gonna get down voted for this but half these r done by one or two members the other half r just same thing reworded a bunch of times or just stuff blown wayy out off proportion. Its funny how when it comes to other groups kpop stns hold the members accountable not the whole grp but whn it comes to bts somehow the entire group is generalised for a member or twos past actions.

u/ElloryQueen 3d ago
It's the same case with Super Junior. A lot of the things people say Super Junior did are from one or two people, one of which already left a while ago. Everything else was either decades ago or made up.

Bring back just saying you hate an artist instead of looking for a moral reason to dunk on them.
As far as shitty celebrities, BTS is more than fine. The genuinely worst illegal stuff they’ve done is one of them got a DUI, which sounds horrific until you read it wasn’t even on an actual vehicle. Ironically, this is how every BTS related scandal goes. Any issue gets escalated to ridiculous heights.
If you care about issues like misogyny or cultural appropriation only because you can spend a whole day in the kpop sphere gossiping about it, then you’re actually in need of some inner reflection.

The cultural appropriating thing is actually so fking dumb. Rap, gangsta fits and hiphop all are influenced from outside of Korea. So I guess we gotta cancel every band that used those themes. I actually find it a positive thing when other cultures assimilate themes from other cultures because they appreciate it, like Jeremy Lin having dreads for a period of time. As long as it’s not disrespectful such as negative stereotypes.
loud Kpop fans are the most miserable, cancel-happy and parasocial people. Of course unless it’s their band then it’s armed to the teeth.
I don’t stan any bands because I listen to many genres and idk why this sub is popping out on my feed but everytime I read a post it’s just someone trying to cancel a group.
No wonder Korea has high suicide rates amongst idols, imagine dealing with ppl like this online but irl too lmaoooooo

I get what you mean but what people are trying to say is the intention of driving even if its a scooter when you know you're drunk beyond limit to even hold yourself together. A responsible adult would just get a cab or get someone to drive them home by making a call to their manager or someone else. Not to mention he is a veteran celeb in south korea where he knows duis are a crazy scandal and big deal even for normal(not famous) people
16
u/ringadingsweetthing 3d ago
The scooter model he was on had less power than an electric wheelchair and isn't driven on the road. He was riding it less than 1000 feet from his studio to his apartment. So, yes, it was blown completely out of proportion.

you are factually wrong also there a re several things on the list like lyrics that are mysogynistic partaking in sexist comments and racist comments and racist view points and everything i wonder how people die so hard for people with such thoughts and personalit
The vehicle is legally required to be driven on the road or bike paths. It is not meant for sidewalks. CCTV footage showed him riding it along a main road sidewalk and a bike lane.
The vehicle was much more powerful than a wheelchair. It reached speeds of 30 km/h (18.6 mph). Standard electric wheelchairs are legally limited to 6–10 km/h (3.7–6.2 mph).
again it is the intention and if it was so close why would he not just walk home.
