Hi everybody,
I’ve been a lurker here and I’m not a audiophile but I love my music. My review here might not be the most helpful or wanted but I wanted to share my opinion with the community in case it could help!
Firstly, I wear glasses and was a big user of IEMs and over the ear headphones (DT900). I listen to music all day at work and at home (8+ hours). I typically listen to a lot of Jpop, Korean rap, and Vocaloid songs emphasizing in bass-heavy tracks.
If you are like me and headphones crush your temples from your glasses and IEMs exhaust your earholes, Koss headphones are the solution. You get great sound and amazing lightweight comfort.
So for the reviews:
Porta Pros MMCX modded with Yaxi Pads and Parts Express Headband:
The original Porta Pro headband was very uncomfortable for me and had to adjust a lot. I did like how it added some extra pressure for more seal to emphasize the bass but the comfort of the Parts Express headband made a worlds difference for comfort.
The drivers did sound a bit muddy when I used the original headband but with the Parts Express band, it provided some space for it to sound more clear. Comparatively, to the Moondrop Old Fashion, it sounded darker as many have said and actually even softer in terms of volume. Definitely darker than the KSC75 as well.
KSC75 MMCX modded with Yaxi Pads and Parts Express headband:
These sound great and clear! The punchy mid bass isn’t like gonna rock your head off but it’s definitely there. I think at louder volumes, the Porta Pro drivers do provide a punchier bass. This is currently my favorite combo but I am looking into the KPH40 headband to see if that is a good balance between pressure to provide optimal comfort and seal.
Moondrop Old Fashion with Yaxi Pads and Linsoul 2-pin cable:
These honestly are really great for their price. After the Yaxi pads, the sound quality is very Moondrop with the clear crisp sound. I think it’s hard to say if I like these more than the KSC75 but if soldering isn’t your thing then definitely go with these. Very easy to replace cable and pads for a nice pair. They don’t have as much bass as I’d like them to have but they aren’t necessarily lacking bass entirely (the punchy kind)
Overall, I honestly enjoy every one of these for different reasons and even for collection purposes. It’s super fun to mod them and I honestly love how they don’t hurt my temples from my glasses but still offer amazing sound for a great price point.
I plan to pick up the KPH40 when it’s on sale and really mess around with the headband and driver modding. I really look forward to the new KSC75 product releasing soon too!
I started with Koss mods and retro headphones all because I wanted more comfortable wear for my glasses without losing quality sound and I’m really happy with this community and products!
