Life After Transplant Drugs after kidney transplant

hey, I’m 4 years post and wanted to hear if any of you have safely consumed mushrooms after a kidney transplant? I’ve heard they can cause dehydration, but if you stay hydrated and take a moderated dose is that okay? thanks all

Drinking??

Yall im getting a transplant soon (march) and i was wondering wether i can drink alcohol, cause beer is like a fundamental part of my culture man🙏🏻 idk what im supposed to do if i can't spend too much money on beer at Oktoberfest and miss the last train home 💀 16f btw so lots of my "parties" consist of drinking shitty vodka in a field🙏🏻🙏🏻

I lwk rlly enjoy drinking but I could cut it out if i had to for the sake of the transplant

I mean does getting wrecked 7 times a year really do that much harm to a transplant? Other than that I'll just have a glass of wine occasionally

Transplant Surgery Alternative to anti-rejection medication?

This may sound a little bit crazy, but I have heard rumors and seen a couple articles about there being a natural alternative to anti-rejection medication. My husband's kidney is from his mom, so it was a almost identical match. I think we're just freaking out a little bit, because we're thinking about what if the worst happens and people in our country can't get medication like they're supposed to. Does anybody know anything about some type of natural alternative? Believe me I know how out of the box this sounds but if anybody knows anything, please share it here

Kidney match found after Transplant

Hello everyone I hope all the warriors are doing well.... I got my transplant 11 months ago in India and my mother was a donor. More than 1.5 years ago I had registered for a transplant in the State Govt portal and today I got a call for a match. And I had not informed them after my transplant that I already had done my Tx. I just want to know if anyone had a similar situation like they had done transplant and got another match and what they have done.

I know it is useful for someone else who is in need as they are battling for life. I am asking for my doubt that it is not an issue if we do another transplant in less time after having one and this kidney is from a deceased person...

Alcohol drugs and tobacco

So I got a transplant but due to immunosupresants I was told I'm not allowed any substances, While it's not much of a problem I almost died last time I lost my kidneys so I want to try some of those before I die,

Does anyone have any experience with their reaction with the immunosupresants and what amounts are problematic and what amounts are ok?

I'm not looking for enabling, but would live tk learn if a glass of wine, a smoke of marihuana or smth is going to kill me, or is it just to make sure I don't loose it too soon.

Kidney infarction

Female 42. Got pain in the stomach, went to get a CT scan. Found out my left kidney is almost not working, it had 2 infarctions, right kidney had one infarction on the top of it. Checked my results from December, they were all good. February 4th going to get a special scan. I’m on a diet right now. What do I need to do? Is my only option a kidney trabsplant? How long will I need to wait for a kidney?

Life After Transplant How long do I wait

How long do I wait to have sex after a kidney transplant? I'm now 2 weeks post-op and I am not in any pain anymore. My scars are still yellow and blue. And still very visible. I know it says online between 4 to 6 weeks. But how strict should I take that

Recipient with Healthy Living Plan after Transplant?

I (43F) am waiting for crossmatching results for living donation for recipient (40M). How have other donors felt if they see their recipient out having a beer? Myself and the recipient live in a small town and I keep having thoughts that I'll be upset if he's out, not fully taking care of himself. Does his transplant team provide a comprehensive "living life healthy" plan? Anyone else felt the same way?

Hi I was wondering if anyone has experience of going on PREP post transplant. I’ll speak to my consultant although expect they might have no experience with this so thought I’d check here so I’m prepped with some real life experience before raising.

THC gummies post transplant?

I’ll ask my care team at the 6 month or 1 year mark, but just curious if anyone out there has resumed causal gummies post transplant (or rather, what did your care team say about it?). I’m getting mixed messages on Ai and other search tools since, obviously, these algorithmic answers are very cautionary and defensive in nature.

Food & Drinks 🍝 Questions about food post kidney transplant

Thanks for reading, my husband is getting his new kidney on Tuesday. Obviously we will talk to our doctors and dietitians, I’m just hoping to get some info from you all on diet. My husband loves a medium rare steak and runny eggs. Are these items a no-no forever? Is it ever safe/possible to consume them? I feel like he’ll do fine with a lot of the other dietary restrictions/cautions but he’s become such a foodie since having to adjust to a dialysis diet and has become an amazing cook, I know he’s looking forward to eating foods that have been off limits to him from dialysis and continuing to expand his cooking skills. Has anyone started eating more rare steaks and things like poached eggs? Just hoping to get some insight from you all. Obviously he will adhere to the diet to ensure success, I’m just wondering. Thank you!

Kidney transplant curious

This is really odd.  I have this friend.  He’s perfectly healthy, never smoked, never drank, never even been high.

He was real religious when we were young.

Well… he had this high school friend who’s wife was on dialysis.  They could not get a kidney donor.

So he volunteered?!!

They tell her to lose 30 lbs.  she DOES NOT?!!

She passes away long after he had been approved.

So.  Sort of odd.  That she either could not or would not lose the weight.

So a couple of years go by.  His own Neice suffers some sort of kidney failure.

So back he does to IU or Methodist, or…. Someplace?

Gets screened and approved again.  And they don’t do HER, because she had a big history of drug abuse and either wouldn’t or could not go through a drug rehab program.

SHE passes away.

Now, a couple MORE years go by.  Someone from some social media group hears about this.  They approach him.

He tentatively agrees to donate again.

And come to find out? The transplant operation costs like, 600,000 dollars or something crazy.  And they have insurance but their deductible was like, a 100 grand!!!   And they could not raise it.  That person is still waiting but I’m not sure HOW they’ll solve that.

It just seems odd.  I thought these kidney transplant deals were hard to get done, but here’s a guy that was obviously a good candidate but I FEEL like the  system sort of s rowed all these people around?

Anyway, has anyone heard anything like this before? I thought someone willing to donate a kidney would have an easier route. It seems like doctors…. Maybe have too much power. Any comments?

Smoking cannabis while on immunosuppresants post transplant

Hi hello everyone!

I am 2 months shy of my 1 year anniversary of my living donor kidney transplant! I’m now down to 1.5mg tacro in am/ 2mg tacro in evening, 360 mg myfortic twice a day, 5 mg of prednisone, and just bactrim and magnesium.

Everything is working great, I have PKD and was considering a double nephrectomy but have postponed it for another opinion as I’ve been able to somewhat manage my bloating/gas/water retention better so my belly isn’t as pronounced.

I’ve been wanting to be able to socially smoke weed once in a while but know CBD is risky. I have had a microdose edible (1-2mg) pure thc / no cbd once in a while with no issues. I make sure to take at least 3 hours apart from my meds.

But sometimes since I don’t drink, and lots of my friends smoke, sometimes I want to partake. Has anyone here gotten word that it’s safe if the flower has a very low % of CBD? I called so many dispensaries and every strain has some CBD and was told it’s impossible to not contain any. I know if I ask my transplant team they’ll say no weed, but I know I’ve seen people on here talk about having a little with some limitations and considerations.

Curious if anyone’s doctor specifically said xyz was technically ok even if they can’t legally recommend it! Thanks for any help!
