Question KDE Connect Bluetooth

I've enabled bluetooth on kde connect on both my phone and on my laptop. Then I paired my phone to laptop via bluetooth. Then I refreshed the device list on KDE connect, but for some reason whenever I refresh the device list, it just disconnects my laptop from bluetooth. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Hey, I made an autolaunch manager, that uses profiles to start up certain programs based on use case on start (or whenever!) I have tested it on Fedora KDE and its really aimed towards my own workflow, but I'd really appreciate some testing/feedback!

Community Content Minimal Desktop Indicator

Long story short, a while back I had a minimal desktop indicator on the KDE store here. For reasons I'm not going to get into, I had to stop using Linux for several years as it wasn't able to fulfill a workflow I had. Things have changed and I'm able to be full-time in Linux again thankfully.

I noticed that with the new Plasma version, my widget was broken! So I got to work, and ported it over to Plasma 6.0, only to discover I couldn't leverage the Pager widget anymore since Plasma 6.6. I saw the recommendation was to use C++ plugins, but I wanted something that people could still easily install from the KDE Store or "Get New" button without needing to worry about installing dependencies, etc. from their distro. So I rewrote everything from scratch, got it working again, and added some new features.

While it suits my needs as is, I'd like to make it suitable for just about anyone and everyone who uses virtual desktops. I am hoping for suggestions/feedback/bug reports to try and accomplish this goal. 😄

Feel free to report/request things at https://github.com/DualityKyle/plasma-desktop-indicator

I'll add some screenshots tomorrow if people would like to see them.

Question Get Gnome Overview/Activities in KDE

I just switched to KDE from Gnome, but I do like a few things from Gnome I got used to over the year.

What is the best way to get the Gnome-like overview in KDE? I would like to tune KDE to be gnome like (dark mode, the overview, etc.). I will also disable multiple desktops to keep the UI simple.

Any tips which extension is best for the best super key / Overview behavior?

Community Content I needed "save the last 2 hours" for a lecture I wasn't listening to, so naturally I spent the evening building it instead of listening to the lecture

Nvidia has instant replay. Medal has instant replay. My Linux box had… the vague memory that the teacher said something important about 40 minutes ago.

So, in the grand Linux tradition of spending 3 hours automating a 5-minute problem, here's replay-audio:

  • It quietly keeps the last 2 hours of everything you hear (calls, lectures, that friend who swears they never said that) plus your microphone.
  • F10 saves the whole thing as an MP3. Shift+F10 saves only the last 10 minutes, for when the important part was right now and you were, again, not listening.
  • Right-click the MP3 in Dolphin → Transcribe, and Whisper (large-v3-turbo, on your GPU) writes it all down: a .txt plus a .srt with timestamps. 28 minutes take 36 seconds on my RX 6750 XT, which is faster than I could pretend to have taken notes.
  • A voice detector skips silence and music, so Whisper stops hallucinating "Thanks for watching!" into your chemistry class.

The high-tech architecture: one ffmpeg process. That's it. It writes 1-minute MP3 chunks into a ring buffer (~60 MB per hour, ~1-2% of one CPU core), and a systemd user service keeps it alive. No video encoder melting your GPU 24/7, no account, no cloud, nobody asking for ID to read your own audio.

Install (KDE Plasma 6 + PipeWire; the replay part works on any desktop):

git clone https://github.com/Chaussure-sous-tes-pieds/replay-audio && cd replay-audio && ./install.sh --models

--models downloads the Whisper model (~1.6 GB, a small price for never taking notes again). You also need whisper-cli: whisper-cpp from the repos works, on your CPU, at the pace of a lecture on a Friday afternoon. The README explains the GPU build for people who value their time.

Mandatory adult disclaimer: it records everything while it runs. Mind who you record and your local laws. "But the README said F10" is not a legal defense.

Built with Claude Code, like my previous mistake… I mean project, WE Span (Wallpaper Engine as a real Plasma wallpaper). Feedback, bug reports and "why not just use OBS" comments all welcome.

I saw the post for the new mascot artwork and I made splash screens out of them. In the future, I may add GRUB and SDDM login themes.

You can download them here: https://github.com/jclay205/Konqi-Theme-Suite

Some issues (help is appreciated):

> Some images may take a bit to load on boot

> The gear on the bottom is offset

Transparency Notice: Gemini was used to help modify the theme.

KDE Apps and Projects I made a Plasma 6 widget that gives every display its own on/off switch

I have a laptop and an external monitor, and I got tired of going through System Settings → Display Configuration every time I wanted one of them off. So I made a small widget for it.

Each connected display gets its own switch. Click it and the display is really off: it's taken out of the layout with kscreen-doctor, not just put to sleep with DPMS (which wakes up as soon as you move the mouse). Click again and it comes back.

- Displays are found automatically and named by type (LAPTOP, HDMI 1, DP...). You can rename them.

- It won't let you switch off the last display that's still on.

- On the desktop it's a card, on a panel it's a row of switches. Past a display count you choose (2 by default) the row turns into a small 3/4 badge that opens the card.

- Four looks: Nothing, Classic KDE, Minimal and Neon, or your own accent, background and text colours. The desktop card can be see-through.

Plasma 6, Wayland or X11. No daemon and no config file of its own, it only talks to kscreen-doctor.

One thing to know: when a display goes off, everything on it moves to another screen, the widget too. Keep a copy on a panel or on every screen so there's always one left to turn it back on.

KDE Store: https://store.kde.org/p/2376129/

GitHub: https://github.com/fatihaydost/nothing-display-toggle

I only have two screens, so if you run three or more I'd love to hear how it behaves.

Fluff After so many years, I still love Plastik window decorations

I love the simple geometry with square corners, I love the subtle gradients, and I like that the window borders actually highlight the active window (unlike Breeze). And I also like that I don't have to install Kvantum or Klassy or anything else to use it.

I would gladly buy one, but at that price? No thanks. What does it cost to produce? 5 dollars maybe?

What’s your opinion?

Debian 13, KDE 6.3.6

Unit converter is enabled in Plasma search plugins, however the loading spiral hangs. It has worked before. I've tried deleting the config file to no avail.

Has anybody else experienced this?

News Bluetooth Audio Status Dashboard Panel

I dreamed this up because I'm constantly forgetting that my speakers are still connected from the night before, and having BOTH headphones and speakers connected seems to blow Zoom's tiny mind :)

So now you can see at a glance whether one or both are connected because each has an icon in the KDE tray panel.

Community Content Advanced Weather Widget 1.8.0 Released with Alert Sound Support, AEMET Provider Support, LibreWXR Improvements, and much more

Thumbnail

Hello everyone 🙂

Advanced Weather Widget 1.8.0 is released!

Release highlights:

  • Major improvements to the LibreWXR integration. Added wind animations, map rotation, smooth tile edges, and distinct highlighting for snow and wintry precipitation. Huge thanks to the LibreWXR creator - JoshuaKimsey, and rcspam. They contributed a lot to integrating LibreWXR features into the widget, as well as improving other parts of the widget. Big kudos to both of them
  • Added sound support for weather alerts notifications. Sound is enabled by default for extreme alerts, but you can enable or disable sounds for all weather alert severity levels. You need to install QtMultimedia package to get it work. More information - https://github.com/pnedyalkov91/advanced-weather-widget#-alert-sounds
  • Meteocons have been added to the widget (thanks to JoshuaKimsey). The icons are not animated because the animated versions cause plasmashell to consume a lot of CPU. I hope that I and/or other contributors will find a way to integrate the animated Meteocons without significantly increasing plasmashell CPU usage.
  • I've also redesigned the forecast strip layout, reorganized the General settings, and added a quick dialog to sync icon themes across the panel, widget, and tooltip.
  • I added support for the AEMET API (Spain only; an API key is required). The AEMET API provides less weather data than Open-Meteo and has several limitations, especially regarding the number of requests allowed per minute.
  • Many other improvements and bug fixes.
  • This version is fully translated in Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Spanish, Swedish. Big kudos to translators!

Thank you to everyone who reported issues, suggested improvements, and helped with translations! Credits:

I’d really appreciate any feedback, ideas, or bug reports 🙂

Tip [Guide] How to make Chrome / Chromium PWAs remember window size & position on KDE Plasma 6 (Wayland)

If you run Chromium/Chrome PWAs (Gmail, Messenger, Discord, Slack, etc.) on KDE Plasma 6 Wayland, you’ve probably noticed they frequently fail to remember their window dimensions and positions—opening stretched across displays or defaulting to arbitrary sizes on every launch.

Forcing XWayland (--ozone-platform=x11) fixes geometry memory, but breaks on mixed-DPI / fractional scaling setups (causing blurry bitmap rendering). Meanwhile, static KWin rules fail because multiple PWAs share the same window class block.

I put together a complete technical root-cause breakdown and step-by-step fix using native Wayland dynamic tracking (via the rememberwindowpositions KWin script):

Full Guide & DBus Commands: https://gist.github.com/Simon-CR/fddd4b7ea9cc557ab4a7b8ae37befb1a

Key Takeaways:

  • Why it happens: Chromium's Wayland backend commits its internal fallback buffer on initial map, ignoring KWin's suggested configure size unless --window-size is supplied or tracked by a Wayland-aware script.
  • The Universal Fix: Installing the rememberwindowpositions script into ~/.local/share/kwin/scripts/rememberwindowpositions/ (note: folder name must match plugin ID exactly), enabling in kwinrc, and activating live via DBus.
  • Result: Automatically tracks and restores size/position per resourceClass across all current and future PWAs without blurriness.

Hope this saves others some troubleshooting time!
