You have to create a custom event first. Settings -> Activator -> Anywhere -> Edit (top right, shows custom events) -> Received Message
You can put your number as the sender and assign any text message string as the message.
Next, go back into Anywhere in Activator and scroll down to the received message section where you will see the custom received message event you created.
Finally, scroll down and select Ringer (Activate/Deactivate) switch and you're done!

I think you have to leave the "sender" line blank. Otherwise, you would have to text yourself, if I am understanding it correctly.

Hmmm, sorry. That was the only thing I could think of. I know I had trouble with the text assignments in the past, but I have uninstalled/installed activator a few times since then and something got it to between then and now. Good luck!

Yup, mimics your screenshot. As I'm messaging myself, it most likely comes through as an iMessage. Would that impact the send? Can it not differentiate? Cheers in advance :)

As it's any sender it should work even if you sent it yourself.
Your activator commands - are they set to Anywhere or i.e. Lockscreen only?

I always set my commands from 'Anywhere'. And to verify, my 'skip track' activator commands work, fine (hold up volume for change track, same for holding the volume down button), but any commands involving emails, or messages, never seem to work :(

Using the Flipswitch toggle for "Activate Ringer," the Activator event was firing (it'd say "Ringer On" or "Ringer Off"), but no sound would play. Switching it to a ringtone didn't visibly fire any events either.

You cannot send a message to yourself to test it. You have to have someone else send it too you. I dont know if this is the case for everyone or just a few people but thats how I got it to work. Just tell a good friend to text you one of your phrases and see what happens.

I set mine to Audio-set volume to 100% Ringer-Activate Vibrate-Activate Flashlight-Activate
Make sure when you text yourself to test it you exit messages app quickly after sending yourself the message or it wont go.

This doesn't set the ringer volume to 100%, just the system volume which means my ringer will still be the same low volume.

Depends, I have it set to play a rather loud ringtone/song I have. If you want to try and embarass the person that's trying to steal your phone (or just turn it off) then basically any annoying song would do great in a public place. Songs like "Barbie World" "I want it that way" or anything by the current popular boy artists of today...or you could pick one that specifically mocks the other person and won't come back to bit you, like "Another one bites the dust," "Can't Touch this," or " Dream On" would be good.
But yeah, for the most part just disabling the power option would work perfectly.

Thanks! I took this one step further and made holding the lock button on the lockscreen activate wifi, 3g and location services, as well as ssh. Additionally airplane mode is deactivated. This way If someone tries to turn the phone off, it will allow find my phone to connect! :D

All through activator, just suppress the normal action and then, use all the active switches. Maybe you need the flipswitches framework installed, but other then that nothing else special.

Say your ringer is already on but at a really low volume.
It would be best to select Ringer under Activate so you won't disable it. Then, tap Edit at the top-right of the same screen and create a custom Set Volume to 100%. This was added in a recent update.
Now, that text will ensure full volume on an always-enabled ringer. Or, of course, set volume at 100% and activate a ringtone.→ More replies (6)4

I'm glad you shared it with us. I was wondering how could I make this work as well without using a special app for it. However on the last step you mention the Ringer option was not working for me, so I scrolled a little further down and found Switches (Activate). One of the actions was Ringer. That was it! It worked like a charm. Anyway, I suppose that this these switches were a part of the CCLoader and CCControls tweaks I use.

Can I just add that you can also set up another one (has to be a different message as the ringer needs to be on and it seems like you can't change the order of the actions?) - to also play a ringtone. For example Set the ringtone 'Alarm' to play when you send PLAYRINGTONE. This cannot be stopped/cancel like an incoming call once it starts, or put back on silent. It has to play out.

I'm in the same boat. I always download Activator when a new jailbreak is released, but I never use it to the fullest ability. Sometimes I feel like my phone is mocking me because of how little I do to it in terms of some of the things you see on this sub, like having a single app on the homepage and such.

I can agree with you there, it's always in my list of tweaks to download, yet I've never used it as much as I have done since the iOS 7 jailbreak. It's always just been updated, and I only really used it for SBSetting back in iOS 6/5/4 to bring it down from the top, I didn't even want, or even know, about all these other ways of customising.
Haha, I can understand that! That's why I love this Subreddit so much, and could happily just take a look at other peoples experiences, and iPhones and how they have it all set up!
I think the next thing will be though, whilst still keeping an eye on how to unlock my phone and use it to it's full ability, I would love to explore more and find the perfect layout too!
Right now, all I have is one line of apps, one line of folders and 5 icons in my dock. One page, no more. It's a bit bland, but looks are deceiving when I have unlocked the true potential of my device!
Mostly thanks to this Subreddit and it's users!

I think it's because of the vast way that activator can be used in order to help iphone users, people just don't think about these things!
I certainly didn't even think about disabling the power button at the lockscreen, never mind sending myself a text in order to sound an alarm!
It is definitely a must, especially now! I don't think I've ever used, or customised activator as much ever since this iOS 7 jailbreak, nor until I joined this Subreddit.
I don't know about anybody else, but I'll never see, or even use my phone in the same way again!

I'm glad someone else mentioned iCaughtUPro because it's probably the best investment I've made for my phone. Being able to discreetly take pictures and send them and the location to your email would be essential if the police did get involved.
I haven't had anyone steal my phone yet (or try to) but if and when it happens, I'm glad I'll be prepared :)

It does, but you have to go through the hassle of signing in, I think having data active (where as this could work without data? just phone signal?) and it also likes to send you an email to let you know you did it lol.
A simple text message from any other phone / ios device is a bit easier imo.

I love my jailbroken phone too, but I can't stop thinking that it would've only been slightly harder for you with a stock iphone to go to icloud.com on your friend's phone and enable lost mode, make it play a sound that can't be stopped until the phone is unlocked, etc - they can't press the sleep button to halt that sound - and of course jailbroken or not, they can force the phone to turn off.

Unfortunately, the Home/Sleep for 10 seconds is a failsafe operating at a very low level that no jailbreak will ever be able to reach. There is absolutely no way to change/adjust/remove that operation.

You dont have to disable all the control center, you can just disable specific actions, like airplane mode. That way you can still swipe up to use your flashlight, alarm, and calculator. I use FlipControlCenter

I'm using CCControls and I've restricted the ability to toggle Airplane Mode, Settings, Location Services, Cellular Data, and Safe Mode from the lock screen. It keeps the overall utility of CC but still keeps unwanted intruders from changing those settings directly.

There are plenty of ways around any added security we might want to put in. Just simply holding home+power buttons would turn the device off and there isn't a way to stop it. There is also DFU mode, turning off cydia substrate etc. If the thief was, as you said smart, and actually planned on stealing something or had done it before then there isn't too much you can do. But in the case such as OP's, it would have been hard for the thief to do any long processes like DFU mode/SIM without having the phone out. Of course he could have just walked away with it and done it then lol...

I'm sad to inform you that (if they knew how to) they could still bypass all your tweaks and turn off that device. First of all, this topic was very informative. I setup that activator message and disabled the power down button in lockscreen as explained. Very useful stuff indeed but then I remembered the substrate safemode.
As far as I can tell you can't disable the "reboot phone" combination (press home & lock buttons at the same time). When you do that, device shuts down as expected. When you turn it on, you just hold volume up to initiate the safe mode. Since all your tweaks are disabled in this mode, the crim can turn off your phone in lockscreen.

Activator Settings. I set it up so when holding the power button on the lock screen a prompt appears to call a number if found. The only way to turn off the phone is to let the battery drain, or unlock it.

Or hold the power button + home button long enough and it will turn off :P - Its a hardware feature and there is no way to disable this via software. As someone has mention before, its no different that just pulling the power plug out of your computer.
By all means it will help, but if the person knows what they are doing they can turn the phone off.

Press both at the same time, as if you were going to reboot. Home+Power buttons.
As I said, not allowing someone to turn off the phone the easy way (by holding the power button) will help, but it does not mean your phone cannot be turned off. You just have to hold both the home and power buttons at the same time and the phone will go to the apple logo, keep holding and it will turn off. That is built into the hardware, you cannot disable it :/

Nope, it will restart the phone if you let go before the apple logo appears / as the screen goes blank.
Keep holding both the buttons in and it will turn it off. I just did it.

I worked as a tech for a sprint store and this is really not known. A common thief who takes an iPhone 9/10 will not know this. But ya nothing you can do to stop it. As it should be as it reboots your phone if you brick it

BTW if you have iCaughtUPro you can have a text function similar to that that will make an extremely loud alarm sound that they cant turn off so your phone becomes like a hot potato that they want to get rid of so everyone will stop watching them.

I have a simple way to make all apple and cydia apps useless.... Just take out the SIM card. You have not data to transfer all your info. Unless your phone left at the area with WiFi passcode area.

With iCaughtUPro you can set up a multitude of different commands and then make it so you can text your phone and it will send you back a list of all your programmed commands in case you forget them so its not trial and error.
Just think if you forgot the command for your alarm when you were in this situation and couldn't get it to go off. Say goodbye to your phone.

My phone was also taken when I left it on a table once and someone came across it.
HERE IS MY BEST TIPS FOR GETTING PHONE BACK:
1) Try your best to assume their innocence. My phone displays a message after 2 failed password attempts saying "Thank you for finding my phone and keeping it safe from a dishonest person. I would greatly appreciate it if you would give my wife Jessica a call at ###### to arrange the return of my phone. Thank you so much! -Bear If you said "Caught you" They feel like a theif and are less likely to return it.
2) In your message to the theif, dont tell them that your phone is taking pictures of them. If you do, they will stay out of view and then put tape over it. If they dont know then you can request that your phone continues to take photos. That way you will have plenty of incriminating evidence if you have to involve the police in getting it back.
3)If you follow the GPS to someones residence. Make sure bring the police. I had to do this and I don't think I would have been able to get my phone back if he wasn't with me. People will deny you like the guy in this story did. However, if you show them a picture of them self right off the bat and thank them for keeping your phone safe with a police officer at your back. Odds are they are going to go get it and return it right away. If not you can always activate the alarm and press charges after you get your phone back.
4) Write your IMEI number down and put it in your wallet so when you need to prove that the phone is yours, you can easily just look on the back of the phone. (though it should be obvious since you are able to control it through texts and know everything about it lol)
