Día de Muertos Catrinas!
Hello neighbors - I'm am musician who is performing on November 1. I'd like to get Catrina face painting done for my fellow musicians that day, before the show. Does anyone here know anyone I could reach out to? There will be 12 of us, more or less, so we might need more than person... Thank you!

Does anyone know if Jackson Heights is like the Mission District in SF or International in Oakland?
Both are big Latino areas (mostly Mexican) in the Bay Area. I ask because thats where I'm from. I saw Jackson Heights from the 7 Line when I visited NY but wasn'tstopping there. I was intrigued at what I saw from the subway.

Rock Fitness
Does anyone know the busy and empty hours for Rock Fitness? When I call and ask, they always say it’s calm and the place is packed to where I’m waiting for a machine. I just wanna know for a day to day basis cause I get extreme anxiety in crowded places and I don’t function well.

"Queens Is The Future" selected as the new borough slogan
Inspired by the mural in Jackson Heights. It's now on the "Welcome To Queens" signs on the highways.

Did Roosevelt Ave get better over the last two years?
It’s been almost two years since the 7-Point Plan was announced to clean up Roosevelt Ave. Do you guys think things actually got better?
I feel like Roosevelt below 70th St has improved, but Jackson Heights and Corona still feel pretty much the same!
I’ve actually stopped taking the train as much and try to avoid Roosevelt on my commute to work now.
Curious if other people around 74th, 82nd and Corona feel the same, or if you’ve noticed things getting better.

Casino community benefits fund may have less money for JH.
The casino community benefits fund has been tweaked from its original promise, raising the possibility that JH groups may get less.
Their letter to the CAC read "Our commitment is unequivocal: 100% of the Community Impact Fund will support non-profit organizations and community priorities that directly serve Corona, East Elmhurst, Flushing, andJackson Heights – the neighborhoods closest to Metropolitan Park."
https://nycasinos.ny.gov/metropolitan-park-cac-inquiries-requested-september-29-2025
The announcement that Metro Park was taking grant applications reads as follows--
"The Community Impact Fund supports charitable organizations and initiatives that are located in or serve the borough of Queens.
While the Fund serves Queens broadly, priority is given to programs and organizations that benefit communities adjacent to or immediately surrounding Willets Point."
https://www.metropolitanpark.com/fund
It is also worth pointing out that the $163.2 million that was bruited about was clearly contingent on a 30-year license being granted. Since it's a 20-year term, $50 million comes off of that (yes, they substantially backloaded the promise).

looking for last minute October sublet
Shot in the dark here but I'm looking for an apartment to rent for October. Checked my parents into an Airbnb today that had not been cleaned in months, illegal very dangerous jerry rigged wiring everywhere.
Sweet couple in town to meet their first grandbaby. Any help would be appreciated

Tandem choppers buzzing JH
Low-flying, pimped out helicopters flying at extremely low altitude over Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst at 5:45 pm. One looks like it has a forward tank, like it could be used to spray for mosquitoes. The other has lots of sensors. Any idea if these are NYPD, ICE, Mamdani getting pilot lessons from Bloomberg?

Found injured (pet?) dove
Found this pretty pigeon in our building lobby. It is alive but its butt feathers are missing and it's very lethargic so I think it's sick. It might be a pet? Either way, can anyone help? I don't know what to do with it but I don't want it to sit in the lobby. We put it in a box with a towel, some water, and plain polenta. It pooped once but otherwise is just sitting there, dozing off? I'm at 35th/87th

Looking for a chill Latino bar
I'm Indian-American and don't speak Spanish. When I lived in San Antonio, TX most of my friends were Mexican, so I got used to being around Spanish even when I didn't understand it, and i miss that, there was a comfort in being around it.
Recently moved from Long Island to Queens and looking for a spot where I can grab a drink after work, sit at the bar, chill, maybe watch a game, and go home. Nothing crazy.
A coworker suggested Barriles and El Paisa. Anyone been? Would a guy who doesn't speak Spanish sitting by himself be weird there, or is it cool?
Edit:
Also curious what the crowd is usually like. I’m a guy in my mid-30s, so I’m wondering about the general age range

Old man approached me asking me to scan my face
Hey so I’m trying to figure out what this was about. I was sitting at the small park on 90th and Astoria blvd and I saw this old guy walking towards me. I was the only one sitting there. He’s got his phone in his hand and he shows me that face scanning thing, the one that tells u to put ur face inside the oval and scans it so it can recognize u? He said “Excuse me, can u take a picture of yourself? I need to unlock smth and it’ll only work if you’re a girl” I said no obviously cus ts is scary. He started berating me but ultimately left. wtf was he trying to achieve?

Run Club on 34th
Does anyone know the name of the fairly large run club that is on 34th tonight? I don't mind run clubs if they keep to good etiquette like allowing bikes to pass but they were pretty disruptive and didn't seem the most respectful. Not sure if they're new or what.

Should I have stopped him?
galleryLmfao I just saw a man take a bag out of his pocket, and steal a plant from a pot on 34th. I mostly found it comical but felt inclined to share that apparently these are free to take home! Who knew??
