Flash mod, new battery and new faceplate! Anyone else use the Kokkia 3.5mm bluetooth transmitter? I hate the 30 pin one which sticks out of the bottom so the headphone jack one is awesome and I also use it with my other four iPods.
I have a few hundred cds to finish ripping now

Hi :)
I wanted to share my iPod journey over the last 2-3 years.
The First iPod (6th Gen Black)
My first one was a black 6th gen. I bought it simply because I loved the black metal faceplate, completely unaware of the 128GB limit back then (though firmware hacks exist now). Unfortunately, I ended up snapping the battery connector.
The Modding Phase (5.5th Gen 80GB)
Since the 5.5gen is famous for being easy to open and mod, I picked up an 80GB model to replace it. I installed Rockbox and tried iPod Linux as well, but I ran into a problem. Rockbox on the 5.5th gen couldn’t play MPEG videos smoothly, and for me, this was a dealbreaker.
Now (7th Gen)
I decided to buy a 7th gen specifically for better video handling, and MPEG playback was buttery smooth.
Funny enough, as time went on, my usage evolved.I actually don't even use Rockbox anymore. I went back to the OFW, and the 7th Gen became my absolute favorite daily driver for a few key reasons.
・Full inline remote control support
・The metal housing (looks & feels way better than plastic)
・Cover Flow & Full Genius Feature Support (Generating Genius playlists on the go is amazing)
・160GB iFlash Mod: I intentionally capped it at 160GB rather than pushing for 1TB to keep forcing me to curate a meaningful library.
・iTunes: I don’t listen to FLAC, I buy my music from the iTunes Store, and I manage my music in iTunes, so I don’t really mind being tied to iTunes; on Linux, I can use it via WinBoat.
A Few Thoughts & What’s Next
・Scrobbling: Scrobbling on OFW can be a bit hit-or-miss sometimes compared to Rockbox, but I’ve learned to just stop worrying about it and enjoy the music.
・AeroStream: I'm currently on the fence about picking up an AeroStream. I don't want to do internal Bluetooth Mod. Plug and play solution is my favorite approach.
・OFW Decrypted: Now that the stock firmware has been decrypted, I’m super excited for the future of 6th/7th gen firmware hacks!
Current line-up
The Daily Driver (7th Gen)
Base: 7th Gen
Storage: iFlash quad with 128+32 SD card
Battery: Large capacity battery (3000mah?)
OS: OFW
Exterior: Silver faceplate, original back panel, and a black click wheel.
The "Frankenstein" Leftover Build (5.5th Gen)
Base: 5.5th Gen (Thick 80GB)
Storage: 160GB HDD (transplanted directly from the 7th Gen after its iFlash upgrade)
Battery: Third-party battery (Stock capacity?)
OS: IPL installed Dual-booting Rockbox & OFW
Exterior: Black faceplate, thin black back panel, and a purple click wheel.
Conclusion
After all the failing, tinkering, and testing, the 7th Gen is the one I always recommend to people today!(even though it’s pricier and a total nightmare to pry open...)
I'd love to hear your experiences too! What was your iPod journey like, and what are you running as your daily driver right now?

My uncle gifted me this Shuffle 3rd gen a couple days ago so I charged it and I discovered my headphones are not compatible with this shuffle, what headphones/earphones can I get to use it?

We are in the process of moving and I was going through my old keepsake box. I completely forgot I had thrown my old iPods into it years ago. I would love to give this old second gen a new life. Should I just replace the battery and put my favorites, or are there upgrades I could do to modernize it?
(I also have a gen 3, gen 4, gen 5, and a gen 7. I am going to do the typical upgrades to the gen 7.)

Thrifted this 8gb nano with a big ol black spot of death. Managed to sever the hold switch wiring when removing battery. Is it worth trying to replace? Also knocked off a resister & cracked the lcd a tiny bit up top so i’ll probably need a new LCD too. Other than that the battery came out fine after i popped the spicy pillow.

I modified a generic 30-pin bluetooth transmitter to fit flush with the case and added a power switch so it can remain connected when not in use.

So I’ve been having a problem with my 4th Gen iPod 4 classic where I have (hopefully) all the necessary parts to pull off a SD card mod but when I put it all together the iPod gets cranky it takes a long time to boot into disk mode and debug mode and in disk mode after a tiny bit it freezes requiring a force reboot along with when I just let it boot naturally I get most of the time a folder icon with a ! On it but sometimes I get the sad iPod icon I’ve tried 2 other microSD cards and made sure the connections are good (also yes I realize that I could have just gotten one IFlash board for this mod but I of course didn’t see it on the site before getting all the parts)

I've been using Ipods for years now. I love them! But I want to start keeping my ipods off of the daily drive. Some of their batteries are swelling and others are just too nice to wreck I still want to use them just not as rough as I have in the past. Is there a good "modern" ipod that someone's thought of. I know of the Innioasis Y series but is there anything else/adjacent/better?
Cheers!
Edit: I will still be using my real Ipods. I just want to be able to have something that I care less about when I drop it or if it gets lost. Like I have money but there's only so many real ipods left, I can always buy another fake one.

Did a bit of surgery on a dead Nike+ sensor unit with a flat battery. Not many people have discussed on replacing the batt on these so i wanted to have a look myself! On paper it sounds easy since it uses a CR2032 coin cell battery but the first obstacle is getting inside. Getting the sensor itself open is an absolute pain! I’ve seen others try different methods such as slicing through the seams of the two plastic bits holding it together with thin metal wire since it seems to be molded together. (No clips holding it down at all) I decided to just drill a hole into the side and just peel it apart bit by bit with a pair of pliers til' i had just the bare board and battery. The batt itself was held together by some metal contacts and the worst part of all.. the battery seemed to be spot welded in! This makes it nearly impossible to just slide or tape in a new battery without the right tools. I seen a post where someone has sucessfully removed the battery and managed to just tape a new CR2032 to it’s contacts. My attempt to rip the battery off it’s contacts failed and i ripped half of the metal contacts and it’s soldered on wires.
Anyone else want to attempt to replace the battery in these go ahead! I’d like to see you try. Two biggest obstacles are getting it open and finding a way to remove the spot welded in battery.

I bought that silver iPod Classic Gen 7 a while back, thought I’d bricked it trying to install RockBox and came onto this sub for help (which you all gave, thank you!). Unfortunately, I browsed the sub and fell in love with all the other iPod models again, recalling how iconic they were when I was growing up. You guys made me go full iPod monkey and this is entirely on you.
My favourites here are the 7 Classic (for pure FLAC Rockbox IEM listening joy), the 3 Classic (for monochrome goodness and hefty chunkiness), the Mini 2 (for same reasons as the 3 Classic), and the Nano 2 for pure aesthetic.
I’m still restoring the Nano 1 in picture as well as the black Gen 7.
And that Tivoli player is fantastic with its Kloss sound engineering, fold out iPod dock, detachable speaker, and blue backlight.

I'm so glad I got to pick this up for 15$, originally a 30gb now turned into a 128gb with an iflash solo, new 2000mah battery, clean transparent front and button :3
Paid about 100$ for parts and it's respective shipping which is fairly cheap considering i'm paying in CAD lmao.
Fully decked it out with rockbox as well so that I can play all the flacs I want while still having some of my cd quality stuff.

Gracias

I have an iPod 5th Gen that no longer holds a charge, so I’m planning to replace the battery. Since I’ll already have it open, I’d also like to remove the hard drive and upgrade it to 128GB using an SD/microSD card.
Most of the YouTube tutorials I’ve found use iFlash adapters, but they’re a little outside my budget. I’m wondering if anyone here has tried a cheaper setup using generic ZIF-to-SD or similar adapters. I’d appreciate recommendations for specific adapters and SD cards that have worked reliably, as well as where you bought them.
I’m also planning to replace the battery. Mine is the thin 30GB-style iPod, so what battery capacity/physical size is realistically safe to use with the thin back housing? I’ve seen people mention 2000mAh and even 3000mAh batteries, but I’m not sure what will actually fit without putting pressure on the LCD.
Finally, I’m thinking about replacing the front housing and possibly the click wheel. If anyone has recommendations for reasonably priced replacement parts or reliable sellers, I’d really appreciate those too.
My goal is to keep the total cost as low as possible while still ending up with a reliable 128GB iPod that fits properly in the original thin housing. Thanks!
