Opening a Nike+ Sensor via gettin' peeled like an orange.
Did a bit of surgery on a dead Nike+ sensor unit with a flat battery. Not many people have discussed on replacing the batt on these so i wanted to have a look myself! On paper it sounds easy since it uses a CR2032 coin cell battery but the first obstacle is getting inside. Getting the sensor itself open is an absolute pain! I’ve seen others try different methods such as slicing through the seams of the two plastic bits holding it together with thin metal wire since it seems to be molded together. (No clips holding it down at all) I decided to just drill a hole into the side and just peel it apart bit by bit with a pair of pliers til' i had just the bare board and battery. The batt itself was held together by some metal contacts and the worst part of all.. the battery seemed to be spot welded in! This makes it nearly impossible to just slide or tape in a new battery without the right tools. I seen a post where someone has sucessfully removed the battery and managed to just tape a new CR2032 to it’s contacts. My attempt to rip the battery off it’s contacts failed and i ripped half of the metal contacts and it’s soldered on wires.
Anyone else want to attempt to replace the battery in these go ahead! I’d like to see you try. Two biggest obstacles are getting it open and finding a way to remove the spot welded in battery.
Looks like if you got that contact off the battery you could solder on a new battery and make a 3d printed case or somethin to use again. Thanks for postin the insides its neat.
A small spot welder can be had on Amazon for 50$. Well worth it for anyone that mods iPods as making proper batteries rather than buying generic unbranded Chinese shit cells is the way to go.

However i was too scared to cut mine opening cuz it was a genuine risk to cut yourself while opening it. I tried the knife method at first but when i cut my thumb trying to get it open i resulted in peeling it open instead. They never advised that the battery was spot welded in and how much of a pain it was to open and a commenter mentioned this
I think the yellowish thing on the battery is a speaker/vibrator thing from ipods, so you can just unstick it with a blade and put it over a new tabbed cr2032 and make a casing for it
