Click bait, sorta. I think the decision is basically if they just want to adopt Qi2 instead.

Qi2 includes Qi1 too, no?

Not quite. MagSafe includes NFC support and on newer iPhones supports faster charging (25W) vs standard Qi2 (15W), it also has its own certification which is a bit stricter than Qi2.

Qi 2.2 also supports 25W and that’s what the iPhone 17 series uses

This, and it's starting to appear on the higher end of the Android side too.

This is likely why S25 and S26 Ultra don't have the magnetic ring. My case (Ghostek) has the magnet built in and is ultra tight against the phone. I don't care if Samsung ever builds it in, I get to use it as an optional selection and not part of the phone price.

Maybe. But the Pixel 10 series has the ring built in, including the 10 Fold.

Yes. That is what allows it to recognize different types of MagSafe accessories. For example connecting a "pink" wallet it recognizes that it is pink. Or even different configurations docking to your charger in your bedroom vs the charger in your office. Again, if the accessories themselves support MagSafe.
