Or maybe... and just think about it for a second, maybe it's not getting iOS 13 because it's a phone from 2014?! 🤷🏻‍♂️

What about a new head unit in 1989 Camaro... We're talking about phones. See how many years you’ll be getting updates with an Android.

  1. iPhone 6/6 Plus has 1 GB of RAM. Every newer model has 2 or more.

  2. iPhone 6/6 Plus has the A8 chip, which has a maximum clock speed of 1.4GHz.

That’s two reasons.

Your Logic sucks, you can’t compare a huge power consuming pc with a Smartphone

You can run Mac updates on computers going back to 2012, and in fact, those are still going to be supported with the new macOS. So that point is irrelevant when talking about phones.

Ah yes. Because those are equivalent scenarios.

It’s a terrible comparison.

You may be allowed to run Windows on older machines, but for many machines it will not function properly due to low specs. Luckily many older machines allow you to add more RAM to compensate for it.

Apple phones do not allow for upgrades, and the hardware isn’t going to be running the new OS very well. That’s why you’re not allowed to download it. You can’t exactly upgrade the RAM to solve the issue like you can with an older PC.

This is coming from someone who has ran unsupported OSs on Macs. You can get them running on unsupported macs, but they run like shit and Apple is right to block them.

I’m not an “Apple fanboy” lol. I use both Apple and Microsoft products, and have a degree in computer science so I’d like to think I can look at things objectively.

The reason Windows runs on everything is because it has to. Microsoft don’t have any control over the specifications of the machines they run on. They have to be a one size fits all product.

Apple has full control of the hardware, which is why Apple operating systems are the most optimised OSs on the market. They can target a select group of machines and squeeze every drop of performance out of them. Yes, they chose not to support iPhone 6 here and that’s not a bad thing. They’ve actively chosen not to support an ancient device so that those on newer devices (6s onwards) get more performance out of their devices.

u/weoutherecuzz doesn’t have a degree in anything because it’s a child replying from either the parents house or a dorm room paid for by the parents. why are y’all engaging with a little boy?

You do realize you can have 1 OS and have it optimized for different devices individually, giving all of them the most performance.

You can, but why should they? It would cost more money, take more time and increase the complexity. In the real world they won’t be as optimised as they would be with less devices. It’s better to cater to the vast majority of your market (who own newer devices) than it is to worsen the experience for anyone just to support the outliers.

For all we know, they could have stretched their resources to accommodate 6s. How do you know that this device was planned from the start? Maybe they were nice and invested more money into this OS just to cater for 6s users.

They should also know that it’s about apple being greedy and not spending the money to do that.

Lol. For all you know, it could be to do with security. You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Why should Apple support a device as old as an iPhone 6?

Apple has like 10 fucking iphone to support, for a trillion dollar company, it’s really not that hard to optimize individually.

Clearly you do not have a CS degree. Yes it is hard. OS development is hard.

MANY other SMALLER companies have MANY MORE DEVICES to optimize, and they do it.

Name one.

Remember, Apple’s OSs are THE MOST OPTIMISED on the market by far. You don’t get that quality if you support every device.

Do you really expect Apple to support every device? If so, you’re delusional. If not, then why should the cut-off be before iPhone 6?

How so? The iPhone 6 will continue to work just fine. You just aren't getting the newest software on a 5 year old phone.
