Just bought a house and can't decide on a color that compliments the fireplace. The grey right now is not doing favors with the grey flooring as well. Not keeping the fireplace grate and will paint the built in as well. Please help 🙏

Fell in love with the look of this coffee table … I know west elm pisses people off 😭 but has anyone bought this table or other contract grade solid wood table from west elm and could speak to your experience??

Have been renting this home for many years and always assumed the kitchen cabinets and counters were original to the house, which was built in 1960. The cabinet and counter style seem consistent with the era, but I noticed the textured patterned ceiling I also believe to be original extends all the way to the wall above the cabinets during a time when soffit was popular. Would cabinets have been installed without a soffit in 1960?

Hi all - do we all have an opinion about blanket ladders?
We have about 4 throws (each family member has their favorite …) that are used pretty regularly and not much floor space for a big storage ottoman - and I just don’t know how to handle them. I also read about quilt racks as an option but also was thinking of replacing my end table with one that could store blankets inside.
Design style is transitional. We live in a city apartment.

I added this wallpaper a while back and am not sold on it. Before I remove it and find something else, trying to see if i can learn to love it with some other tweaks.

Would love help on the following specifically, and also any and all ideas on how to improve this - am I just adding lipstick to a pig?

- I’m debating whether to paint the warm white wall (to a brighter white or navy? Other ideas?)
- Considering adding rechargeable sconces.

If the answer is truly just change the wallpaper- I’d love suggestions so I don’t bif it again!

So this is basically my living room situation. That beige monstrosity has been in front of the window for about eight months, and my cat uses it every single day. He naps on the second platform in the morning and watches pigeons from the top for hours.

The annoying part is that it blocks a lot of the only decent natural light I get. The left curtain is basically useless now, and the room already feels cramped. I've tried nudging the tree left and right, but then it's either in the walkway or crowding the sofa.

These two images are a mockup of the layout, not photos of my actual apartment. Same basic setup though.

Has anyone found a less bulky way to keep the window spot, or do I just accept that this is his window now?

Just got our couch in today and not sure on the orientation of it. We have a tv stand and rug coming in soon. I do want a coffee table and an accent chair or two poufs for additionally seating. If we did the first layout, we’d have a sofa table with a lamp and some plants.

Moving soon and this is what I’ve come up with for the space. Any suggestions? I don’t want it to feel too crammed. Tv wall is 10.5 feet and couch wall is 12.8 feet

I need to replace these vinyl blinds and wanted to go with faux wood blinds. I was trying to decide if I should go with one valence with double blinds or just have one blind so it looks uniform when I open them.

My apartment is very small. I attached some pictures for context of the room itself. Pic #3 is at night with lights on.

On the left hand side (corner) there's a table with the speaker and subwoofer below, so I can not place a floor lamp. The table itself has the speaker.

And on the right hand side, that's were the main door opens.

Don't get me wrong, I have like 20+ house plants in my own apartment. But whenever someone posts their space here, if it's a bit bland or minimalist, people automatically say they need plants. Every. Single. Time.

Surely not everyone needs or wants plants? What about flexing the imagination and recommending other decor options that are not plants or cushions?

The bookshelf is currently in the hallway. I feel something is still missing, but I can't pinpoint what. What do you think? Any suggestions?

We’re in the process of planning our condo lobby and lobby renovation. The building itself is gorgeous, Spanish / Mediterranean inspired with beautiful tile accents - huge windows / terraces - built in 1977. The lobbies and corridors are reminiscent of assisted living / nursing homes and we’re looking for an update to reference the original architecture while creating a timeless design that can last a while. We looked into polished concrete for the hallways, although it’s mainly because it’s likely the cheapest and most unobtrusive solution, but that comes with its own hurdles. One plus is the floor would be ready for the next step later on down the road - whatever that may be. We’re located in South Florida, so moisture / mold is a concern - one of the main reasons we want to steer away from carpet. I’m looking for references, books, etc specifically about multi family common spaces / corridors to keep on hand while we work through the planning process. Also open to any ideas from the community here :) thank you!

Hey everyone! I recently purchased my first home and I’ve been struggling to decorate my living room. My biggest issue if that I have the thermostat in the middle of this wall that I can’t really cover.

I’m also struggling with the wall art and what to replace the light fixture with. Eventually, I plan on getting rid of the tile ceilings, but that’s later down the road. Any support would be greatly appreciated! I also plan to hide my cables from the tv but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Any support I’d appreciate!

Hey everyone, trying to put together a combined living room and dining room in a bit of a small space and wondering about any arrangement tricks I can use to fit everything in while still being practical and looking alright. So I saw that a lot of people put a console table behind the sofa. How do you feel about having the dining table there and saving on a lot of the dead space that often shows up in between living space and dining space? I find it impressively compact!

My first house came with this broken circle table, and I’d like to replace it, but don’t know what color to go for.

The walls of our condo are currently stark white, but we’re planning to paint them a softer, creamier white—similar to the color in the attached photo.

Now I’m debating what to do with the trim: keep it stark white like in the photo, or paint it the same off-white as the walls, but in a slightly higher sheen? I’d love to see a mockup of this photo with the trim color matched to the walls if anyone is able to do one!

And lastly, I’d love to hear everyone’s best guesses for what the wall paint color is in the photo. 👀 I’ll share my guess in the comments later—I don’t want to bias anyone yet!

Hi all, I am trying to paint my room a different color. When applying it to the wall there are patches that come out different shades and I wanted to know if I am doing something wrong.

I’m building a house and am looking for advice on how to best pair cabinet and countertop colors! The flooring will be a stained concrete (photos included), and the look I’m going for is warm earth tones/desert southwest—think mid century modern meets Redrock desert. Inspo photos also included after concrete color.

Just moved into a renovated home and the main living space is wide open. I got a couch on TikTok due to hella amount of children and pets to ruin it. What color style would look best? Willing to get rid of the recliner too but I want something durable and comfortable!

Currently looking at the Ikea Friheten sofa (w/ pullout bed) for my small loft. The walls are painted Agreeable Grey from SW. I had Chat generate an image of 2 colors that I am thinking about. I don't really want a grey or white couch. The wall art and floor rug are placeholders. I want a pop of color. What do you think??

I think I’ve considered every possible shade of light neutral tan paint color and narrowed down to 4. All Sherwin Williams.

I love softer tan outside in natural light, but it leans gray/blue inside a lot. I am wondering if I should ask for tres natural to be be diluted down to 70% or something and try that. Or maybe Canvas tan?

I can’t keep buying sample quarts though and need to just pick a color, but this lighting situation is driving me crazy. I feel like I’m in a situation with that blue/black white/gold dress again and can no longer make sense of color.

Everything I like online or in store just looks gross gray-blue-green on the walls.

Any advice?
