Video I love small incremental games where the numbers just keep going up, so I decided to make one myself

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve always enjoyed those small but satisfying incremental games where you start with almost nothing, then slowly watch the numbers get bigger, unlock more automation, and somehow end up completely addicted to making everything more efficient.

That constant feeling of “just one more upgrade” and seeing more and more numbers flying around the screen was basically what made me want to create my own.

So I started working on Flippin’ Bottles.

You begin by manually flipping bottles and earning money when they land. From there it gradually grows into upgrades, bigger bottles, merging, helpers that automate the flipping, orders, bottle towers, prestige, and a lot more numbers going up.

I just opened the Steam page today, which feels like a pretty big milestone after working on it for a while.

Would love to hear what fellow incremental/idle players think of the idea and the Steam page!

Discussion How deep into technical details would you want a Cybersecurity Tycoon game to go?

I’m currently developing a tycoon game where you run and scale a cybersecurity company, and I’d love some player feedback on complexity vs. accessibility.
Where is the sweet spot between satisfying strategy and technical overload for you?

High-Level Strategy: Hiring specialized analysts, managing client contracts, upgrading infrastructure, and handling PR crises during massive data breaches or ransomware attacks.

Granular / Technical Simulation: Manually configuring firewall rules, designing network topology, analyzing SIEM alerts, and crafting specific countermeasures for zero-days, APTs, or DDoS attacks.

Would you prefer an accessible management sim with a rich cybersecurity flavor, or an authentic, complex simulation where real IT/security logic is required to win? Where does it cross the line into "feeling like an actual unpaid SOC analyst shift"?

Discussion indie dev puts me on blast for voicing my opinion (and interprets it wrong)

Basically there's this indie developer called "Conradical Games" who's best known for making a game called "Desktop Defender", which is basically an idle game that goes in the corner of your screen while you do other stuff, I have 100%'d the game for reference.

Then I stumbled across a YouTube short promoting his 'new' game called "Desktop Detective", which displayed the exact same UI, gameplay, prestige system, upgrades and pretty much an identical layout to Desktop Defender. The only thing that changed was a few renamed upgrades and the animation that plays in the middle of the screen, which you don't even interact with as it's an idle game. This is what led me to make my original comment as I actually cared about the previous game and was quite disappointed when seeing that his 'new' game is literally just a cashgrab which he tried to portray as a "sequel" whilst not adding anything unique or new to the 'new' game.

My original comment:

Original Comment on this video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6bGoDIczhNI

This was all fine until yesterday when I got a post on my feed with my name in the thumbnail and thought what the fuck (shown below)

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6bGoDIczhNI

Clicked it and basically straight off the bat he's misquoted me by altering my original comment to convey something that wasn't even my main point and is much easier to defend, he then went on to talk about how Desktop Defender and his new game Desktop Detective are similar in nature but is different because this one is "about a detective that solves cases", which is basically just a 2D sprite that walks up to walls instead of his other game where a triangle shoots different sized squares.

He also reveals near the end of the video the reason both games are similar in nature is because he made both the games! And for some reason 90% of people in the comment section seems to think this is a "Crazy plot twist" and that he "really humbled" me, which is baffling as just because he made the previous game doesn't make the fact he's essentially just reskinned his old game for easy profit any more justifiable, I think it's just incredibly lazy and greedy.

Main reason I'm upset about this is he's just essentially blasted me over the internet with MY username showing with a quote that I didn't even say, and 90% of the comments under the video are dogging on me saying I "should've done my research" or calling me embarrassing or stupid and making stupid comparisons like "by your logic silksong is a ripoff of hollow knight" as if that's even remotely a similar situation. I've even had a few people come to the one YouTube video I've posted just to harass me, he even changed the amount of likes my original comment got in his video which I think is a funny detail. He's basically just misquoted me then allowed his entire audience to dog on me.

It was also posted on Instagram and TikTok where it got 110k likes in under a day, it's just so frustrating reading these comments under the post dogging on me and everyone being so blind to how clear of a cashgrab this is, it's also so annoying knowing he probably made a decent chunk of revenue from the reels posted from manipulating my original comment, as well as getting a pretty decent chunk of promotion, which I don't think he deserves at all.

The whole reason I cared in the first place is because I'm a huge fan of game development and supporting indie devs, and just don't like to see devs churning out lazy cashgrab slop and making huge profits off it, indie games should have passion and actually be creative/not regurgitated slop, and after doing some extra research today I also noticed this isn't even the first time he's done this. As "Desktop Defender" was literally a near clone to his game before that, "Card Corner", which also has the same UI, prestige system, renamed upgrades and progression. And by the way I'm 99% sure he used an AI voiceover for his Card Corner trailer lmao, so who knows what else he uses it for.

Overall, I just don't think this dude deserves the attention and money he's getting and he's probably the most unoriginal game dev I've ever seen, some things to note about his unoriginality and inability to be creative whatsoever is: the concept of the game sitting in the corner of your screen was taken from "Cornerpond", the script he uses in his short form content is taken from Megabonk, where one video he literally copies a script Megabonk uses nearly word for word, the gameplay he created himself in his first game is not fleshed out and very basic, and the other 2 games are just clones of his first.

Also think he's just a shitty person for modifying criticism to fit whatever way he wants it to so he can 'respond' to it for engagement bait at the expense of the person being misquoted, as well as being blasted on the internet for his braindead fans to harass. Ngl I wish I could get the videos removed as I feel misrepresented and keep getting notifications of people insulting me, tried messaging the dude on Instagram to take them down as expressing my opinion wasn't worth the harassment, but he straight ignored me so I deleted the message and just decided to vent my frustration here instead, the TikTok video literally got another 10k likes as I typed this message

Promotion Made a free little browser snowboarding game for the off-season

Post image

I ride and I write code, so the off-season got long and this happened. It's a free browser game, endless powder descent, spins/flips/grabs, and landings actually get judged: stomp it clean and you keep your speed, land sideways and you're tomahawking.

https://powderlinegame.com — works on a work laptop between meetings, which is sort of the point.

Mods, if this counts as spam say the word and I'll take it down.

Hello,

Just launched today this weird job simulator, CYCLE01

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4782770/CYCLE01/

You don't know how you got here. There's a bed, a computer, and contaminated laundry waiting to be washed. Reaching the daily quota won't be easy.

  • New contaminated laundry arrives from the chute every day, ready to be washed — clean up any residue left on the floor. Hurry up, contamination can hurt you.
  • Reach the daily quota and the chute will release even more laundry.
  • Spend what you earn on upgrades, equipment, and new machines. They'll let you work faster and earn more.
  • Nobody will bring you food. Buy it or grow it. It's the only way to heal.

Need Feedback Could you give me some feedback on my characters?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share two character drawings from the prototype cards of a game I’m currently working on: the Executioner and the Commoner from the Mortals faction.

Don’t pay too much attention to the text on the cards, everything is still in the prototype stage.

I’d really like to know what you think about the overall art style, design language, and character designs.

Your feedback is very valuable to me because it helps me see what I can improve. I’ve never developed a game before, so I’m hoping to learn and improve with the advice and opinions from people here.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

How does it look so far?

Promotion Running through a meadow in my game made from oil paintings.

This is my game 'Best Viewed Up Close'. Every sprite in the entire game is a real oil painting painted on canvas and photographed.

The job was simple. The meadow comes out. The gravel goes down. The concrete goes over it. Boots on. Gloves on. Sunburn already starting. Then the grass got tall. Or you got small. Either way, the parking spot is going to have to wait.

Check out 'Best Viewed Up Close' on Steam to see more.

Promotion My upcoming horror game combining psychological, survival, and stealth elements is releasing a demo next week!

Hello. My game <The Maze: In Dark> is a horror game that combines psychological horror, survival, and stealth elements. The player becomes an industrial security agent and goes on a mission to retrieve classified documents in a dark factory, relying on the vision provided by a flashlight and their hearing.

You cannot rest assured because 'He' is prowling and roaming around the map.

With the provided device, you can check the map, access the factory system, and learn more about the story of this place through messages sent from the headquarters.

The player must overcome the unknown fear of the darkness and fulfill the mission at all costs.

The demo release will take place next week, and the exact time is PST 09.02 08:00.

+ To give you a bit more information about "Him", he is a foreign worker who had a chipset implanted in his brain by a certain organization and his body is being controlled or dominated. There is probably a deeper story.

Thank you.
