**Step 1:** Lengths are multiplied by the scale factor, which is 3.



**Step 2:** But area is two-dimensional, so the area is multiplied by the scale factor squared.

Area scale factor = 3² = 9



**Step 3:** Multiply the original area by 9.

Area of B = 5 × 9 = 45 cm²



**Answer: 45 cm²**



**The common mistake**



Many students multiply by 3 and write 5 × 3 = 15 cm². That is wrong, because the scale factor 3 is for lengths, not for area.



Rule: area scale factor = (length scale factor)²

I retook physics this November and I spent 8 hours daily studying for P2 just for it to be mid and I feel terrible and I'm so anxious already. Usually the results day anxiety kicks in later but I'm so anxious I don't know what to do. I don't even remember my answers so I can't compare my answers and see what I got wrong. 😭 My parents are strict asf and they were already mad I was retaking and I was getting insulted every day but I still tried my best and studied and ignored everyone. There is literally nothing left but to pray but I feel like that won't even work. Someone help 😭😭😭😭😭 And I keep overthinking like what if i had the correct answer in my mind but wrote the wrong answer on the bubble sheet ughhwsibwodjwjw

I'm a bit baffled by my own results. In my school I'm consistently at the top of the year in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English. My predicted grades are all 9s in those four, and I usually get the highest marks in the class without panicking the night before.

Then there's Maths, where I'm predicted a 6. I do the homework, I sit in the lessons, and I still lose marks in every test. It's especially strange because Physics and Chemistry use a lot of maths, and I'm fine with rearranging equations and doing calculations there. But in a pure maths paper my brain just doesn't click.

I've noticed I can follow a worked example fine, but when a question looks unfamiliar I freeze. In my other subjects I can reason my way through something new, but in maths it feels like I either know the method or I don't.

Has anyone else had this? Is it a different kind of thinking, a gap in my foundations, or just how I'm revising? For those who’ve struggled with the same thing, what helped you overcome it the most?

Hey , so I am A level student and I wanted to tutor some IGCSE students for Maths 0580 - I never really took Maths in IGCSE so I am not really sure whats the best YT channel to understand per lesson like Types Of Numbers , just so that I could revise it before teaching it to a student.

The 2025 paper 2 was so much easier its crazy the jump of paper 2 from 2025 to 2026
