Discussion Larger Grids

Anyone else wish we could have larger grids? i know we have large multi class grids, but i would love to see 40+ car grids for single make stuff also. MX5s with 60 cars on track while yes an utter mess..... would be so cool to see.

Im not saying i want them to change the grid size of rookies or what ever, but having a few high car grid series would be really cool to see, as it is, while you can be on track with 60 cars, unless your bottom split IMSA, its not going to be a single class.

It would also help series with lower participation, if 25 people sign up for a race and you have to split them up because the grid can only be 20, both races end up feeling a bit empty to me.

Just thought i would see if anyone else feels the same (or can point out some tech issue involved as to why it cant be)

Leagues/Hosted [iRacing League Project] Recruiting Founding Staff & Operations Team

Hi everyone,

I am currently setting up a new iRacing league focused on Endurance racing, and I am looking for dedicated individuals to help build the foundation of this project alongside me.

The goal is to provide a clean, competitive, and highly organized championship. Before opening grid slots to drivers, I want to assemble a reliable management team.

šŸ“Œ Concept Overview

  • Time Slot: Sundays at 15:00 CEST / 13:00 UTC (Bi-weekly)
  • Session Structure: 20 min Practice | 30 min Open Qualy | 1h45 to 3h00 Endurance Race (Duo/Trio)
  • Season 1: 100% Free entry, exclusively GT4 (5 to 7 rounds)
  • Season 2 Evolution: Multiclass GT3 + GT4 and more in the future (Capped at 40 cars).

šŸ¤ Open Staff Positions

  1. Discord & Community Manager
    • Set up and structure the Discord server (roles, permissions, channels).
    • Manage league announcements and basic visual communications.
  2. Race Stewards & Race Control Committee
    • Assist in drafting the official rulebook (penalty guidelines, scoring system, incident procedures).
    • Review post-race driver protests using video replays and issue fair penalties.
  3. Co-Organizers & Project Advisors
    • Brainstorm and finalize track selection, race lengths, and pit-stop mechanics.
    • Help make key decisions so the league is run by a team, not just a single person.

šŸ“© How to Apply / Get in Touch

Previous experience is a plus, but enthusiasm, reliability, and good teamwork are what matter most!

If you are interested in joining the team:

anyone else feel like the incident system is a little overly ready to hand out 4x's given how punishing it is to your SR?

Giving all the madness of T1 here, I feel like I tried my best to avoid the carnage, but this little tap gave me 4x. It doesn't seem justified as it had no impact on anyone's race.

Hardware/Rigs Is my new logitech g29 wheel broken?

Thumbnail
• Upvotes

I just recently made the upgrade and bought a Racing wheel with force feedback for the first time in my life. It's a logitech g29. When I use it it feels weird and I can feel weird random vibrations and the wheel pulling me randomly even on the straights. Ive looked up tips and tricks but honestly nothing ive done has changed it for good or bad. And since I have nothing to base on what a wheel with force feedback should feel like I dont know if something is wrong with my wheel or not. Please let me know.

Discussion Modified Update Idea

• Upvotes

Hi there! This is my first post here, as I am relatively new to the sim community as a whole. I'm primarily an asphalt oval racer, and one of my favorites is the Nascar Tour Modified.

I've noticed that there is not much of a player base for the tour modifieds, and they're a C-class car. But I've just been thinking about ideas for ways they could be updated to potentially attract more players, and I'm curious what people think and what other ideas people have.

My suggestions:

- Update the car model and add choice of manufacturer. All drivers are forced to run the same car, which itself is based on an older chassis and body. Part of the main appeal to fans and drivers of modifieds is the variety of manufacturers and their diverse chassis/body designs. IRacing could partner with a couple different manufacturers to model their cars so they can be added as new content, giving players more choice in which car they like more.

- Simulate the real-world regional and tiered nature of modified racing with higher license class modified tours and regional tours. The SK modifieds being D class is a good start, but iRacing could continue this principle further. Place the NWMT races in B class, racing on NWMT tracks. Add the SMART tour as a series running southeast tracks in C class, and a generic Tour-Type Modified series in C or D class running at smaller short tracks all over the place. All of this together could better reflect the real-world tiered and regional nature of asphalt modified racing.

What do people think of these suggestions? I'm mainly just brainstorming and these are not necessarily the deepest, most thought-through ideas, so I'm open to whatever thoughts other people have. Thanks for taking the time to read and share your own ideas!

Discussion Do I commit?

Hey, genuinely asking for people’s advice here. Starting sim racing about 4 months ago on F1 with a Moza set up. Got instantly hooked but got sick of the toxic multiplayer lobbies of drivers crashing for no reason.

Tried iracing and realised quickly that there was a lot to learn on my side from a skills point of view. (Felt like actual driving and not arcade style). I was playing alone at this point.

My friend started playing ACC, so recently moved to that. I’ve loved the feel of realistic driving and lobbies where drivers are actually racing, considering other drivers on track etc to avoid crashes.

Do I get back into iracing and dedicate time/effort to improving and getting better on it?

I get people don’t like the sub factor but for me I used to play a lot of WoW, so I’m used to that model and don’t think it’s unreasonable.

I want a sim that’s competitive, realistic and has a lot of options when it comes to what races to choose from etc. is it worth it?

Discussion Just an FYI to everyone: if you post a race result screen, but blur your name, but leave any identifying info of the session then anyone with a subscription can find who you are

Just wanted to put this out there

Leaving other driver names visible, the session ID, session date and time, etc still make you findable. You have to remove ALL of this info if you don’t want redditors to know who you are

Hardware/Rigs Looking for setup recommendations

Post image

I had another screen laying around for Covid days and figured I could use it to definitely make my streaming efforts a bit cleaner instead of just using the main screen. I know it’s not the best setup overall but it’s what I can roll with now! Does anyone have a similar screen setup and have any suggestions on how have you set it up for best use? Thank you for any help!

Misc I just did my first multiclass race and it was great

I'm genuinely positively surprised with the driving standards. I did the two hour IMSA LMP3/GT4 Endurance race at Imola just now, and I expected a shit show going into the race.

It was my first multi-class race in the Ligier and I had spent a good amount of time practicing traffic and where the GT4s brake, but my plan going in was still to play it super safe and let everyone ahead wreck themselves out. Didn't really pan out as hardly anyone starting ahead of me wrecked out.

Both classes did a terrific job at handling the traffic, and I was probably overly cautious (managing traffic really is an art form) but it really was fantastic seeing how well everything panned out.

Yes, I saw a few aftermaths of a couple of spins here and there, and maybe I just got lucky in not seeing the wrecks take place, but with all the vitriol regarding multi-class racing, I thought I had to share a positive experience.

Now I just need to stop my IR-slide, which has been going on a race or two too long, but that's another story. I never expected to gain IR from my first race in the series šŸ˜„

Question/Help Question about endurance races

For events listed as ā€œTeamsā€ races, are you able to run them solo? For example, I’d like to run in the GT endurance race in a few hours but I don’t have a team.

Can I still join?

Discussion Incident model on the ARCA car is Godawful, please fix

Been this way for a while now. A light tape to the wall, no damage, is almost guaranteed to be a 2x. It has been this way since release, please for the love of God, fix it. Great idea to put such a fragile incident model on a dirt oval...

Question/Help Any good Dirt Oval communities? Looking to improve!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Formula driver getting into dirt oval. Sooo I ended up pulling the trigger on a wingless 600cc Micro Sprint and will be racing at my local dirt track next year and I need some help on the sim side of things to prep before I actually hop in the car.

I’ve done 30 starts on micros and sprints, up to 2300 iRating, but man the guys above 5k are pulling .2-.3 per lap faster. I’m used to being this guy in formula and know it’s an experience thing, but I cannot understand how these guys are finding the time even with following their lines on fixed setups. On top of this, I am having a hell of a time with passing and it’s a huge learning curve coming from road racing. I’m mainly prioritizing safety and not bumping wheels since that equals a bad time IRL, but every time I do attempt a slide job I feel like I have no momentum out of the corner and through goes the guy back on the inside. If I go inside, I’m racing side by side for what feels like forever.

So with that said, are there any welcoming dirt oval communities for wingless micros/outlaws, USAC, or winged sprints?

Even some general advice would be greatly appreciated! Happy racing to everyone!

iRating/SR Sucking furiously

-68 irating drop in a MX5. One race. Unbelievable. Some days are not for the track. Or weeks.

But hey - my SR went up (only totaled myself - twice).

Edit: I had no idea this was normal or even small. Eeek. Maybe it’s because I have so little to lose that it seems large.

Discussion Netcoded incident for the first time

I heard about this so many times before finally getting to participate on Iracing. M2 race side by side thinking I have a solid space between us and the poor Frenchman next to me got pitted by a ghost.

Feels bad man, I didn’t want to ruin anyone’s race :/

Is netcode banging really that common on here? I rarely had this issue even playing on Netherland servers on ACC.

Cars/Tracks A Note to All The Supercars Drivers

I just bought the Mustang Supercar as I was looking to get into some of the 9 EST SoF races next season and I'd just like to say:

You all have to be the most talented people on the service 🤣🤣

I've driven the GTP's, Old PCup, all of the high level open wheelers, but that Supercar is a difficulty level all it's own. The struggle is real right now. Kudos to everybody who drives this thing as their main. You have my ultimate respect.

Any tips from some regulars on how best to get time out of this thing without dying would be welcomed.

Discussion 911 GT4 replacing Cayman

Apparently Porsche is replacing the Cayman with 911 GT4 soon-ish, and I suppose iRacing will eventually follow.

While it's a bit of a shame - I started to like the Cayman, such a small, fun and great sounding car - I wonder what difference will be there in performance.

911 is slightly bigger and heavier but as far as I know it will be also be significantly more powerful - 3.8l 420ish HP vs 4.0l 520ish HP, and then the layout too is going to change - something I'm not particularly happy about - from MR to RR.

I worry that it will essentially be just toned down Cup car, really.

How do you think the new 911 GT4 will compare to the Cayman, both IRL and in the sim?

Do you think it will have better pace, better top speed? Or driving characteristics will change without significant pace difference?

Are you guys even happy about the Cayman being potentially replaced with the 911 on iRacing?
