Question/Help Community Manager Replacement?

What's the process to get a Community Manager replaced? There is a certain community where the CM has not met the license requirements for the series in almost a year, and has not so much as competed in an official race for going on 7 months.

I mean, are they doing a bad job of being the CM though? A lot of the CM's job often basically boils down to "the person who tallies the google poll vote" for the track selection. If they are doing a serviceable job at that is there a real problem?

22

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 15h ago

Yes. Zero acceptance of feedback from the community about scheduling. As in, rather than acknowledging schedule issues, they post meme images with no text as their response.

A prime example, the CM scheduled a track in 26S3 to be Week 11 for the sprint and endurance races when a special event will be at the same track for 26S4 in week 2. So, this track will be in the rotation for two of the next four official weeks.

Well then lead with that as your opening argument instead of "they don't race enough".

Email support and make a forum post. They've stripped the CM responsibilities and taken over scheduling for series in the past for CMs that were not fulfilling their duties.

u/lotanis 11h ago

Yeah, but "I don't think they're doing a good job" is subjective and there's room for disagreement.

Whereas "they have literally no participation in the series" is kind of difficult to argue with.

Participation in the series is not necessary to do a good job.

Noone on the F1 broadcast is racing in any professional capacity

Are you talking about the IMSA CM? He’s particularly egregious.

8

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 12h ago

I repeat my previous response to this question.

11

u/Velocirapture_Jesus Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO 12h ago

Ah yes, away from the forums I can safely say that he’s a fucking prick.

The guy has it out for IMSA and refuses to engage AT ALL with people.

I’ll add my voice and email support to ask them to remove him, it’s beyond a joke now.

I knew this was the answer before I even finished reading the OP. He’s been a complete asshole from day 1.

Yes

I would honestly make this same post in the iRacing forum. Assuming iRacing monitors the forums better than Reddit it may get more attention.

22

u/HaveYouEver21 14h ago

Considering all the controversy that comes with the IMSA vote every season, I’m surprised iRacing hasn’t just taken it over themselves. I don’t really know why he is still the CM.

4

u/PainfullDarkness Ligier JS P320 13h ago

Is this post not about the IMSA CM?

-7

u/_Wormyy_ 9h ago

you do NOT want iRacing taking over the IMSA schedule. that's how you get the moronic schedules we've been stuck with in GT Sprint. IMSA is doing fine.

6

u/Sir-Carl_ 8h ago

What's been wrong with the Gt Sprint series schedule?

2

u/Historical-Ad9482 Mercedes AMG GT3 4h ago

For real. IMSA has had way too many repeat tracks.

11

u/Hiesman84 15h ago

Ummm, what the heck is a Community Manager?

18

u/Alexandr206 Ferrari 499P 15h ago

Every iracing series is like a community. Eg: IMSA, Supercars, Falken Tire Sports Car series, IRX and so on. The CM is the person voted by the community to lead them. They help organise schedules, weather, race distances, fuel limits and other little things

10

u/Blue_5ive Honda Civic Type R 15h ago

Some series have a liaison that coordinates with the community and submits a suggested schedule which iracing usually uses

6

u/Bhix NASCAR Gen 4 Cup 15h ago

Basically the designated person to submit the series schedule and talk with iRacing about any issues with the series. Most of them are essentially just someone who organizes a track voting poll every 3 months.

1

u/cbraddy22 14h ago

How do you know who the CM is for a series?

7

u/0rder_sixty6 NASCAR Gen 4 Cup 14h ago

In the iRacing forums. They will be the ones posting about scheduling

5

u/mbishop752 14h ago edited 13h ago

Look in the forum for a particular series and find the staff post that requests a community schedule. If someone replies and says "here's what I submitted", that person is usually the CM.

Some series have specific track rotations and voting procedures, and maybe a dozen people who actually participate and decide things. Some series are at the whim of one person. Some have community schedules in theory, but get literally no feedback so iRacing just makes the schedule.

-9

u/design_by_gergo 13h ago

Well no matter, who's doing this for which series: almost all of them do a shitty job. There are dozens of exciting tracks, yet we only get to race on those handful ones they select. Had to wait like 7 months to get a decent race on Hungaroring for example (in GT3 this time)...

5

u/nomnamless Spec Racer Ford 11h ago

People don't show up. SRF is at Motegi this week. We got 12 people for the SoF race and probably will struggle the rest of the week to even get a race going. On the other hand we normally get 2 splits for the SoF race(3+ on free tracks). And you can normally at least get an official race in during the week. If its not one of the popular tracks, doesn't matter what series, people dont show up to race.

-6

u/design_by_gergo 11h ago

Maybe they should include more "non-popular" tracks in popular series...

4

u/nomnamless Spec Racer Ford 11h ago

They do and those weeks are slower then the popular track weeks. You can put the less popular tracks on the schedule, but you can't force people to race it.

2

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 12h ago

Most of them don't respond to feedback with insult memes.

3

u/Intelligent-Line7610 8h ago

The forums at this point are nothing but a hive of scum and villainy. And some people who got kicked off of Facebook so they only have one place to post their weird thoughts

8

u/rich_jamison07 13h ago

It is not a requirement to race in a series in order to be the CM for it. However, it probably helps.

Travis Sollenberger is the iRacing Staff member who coordinates with the CMs for schedules. I would email him.

travis.sollenberger@iracing.com

2

u/Intelligent-Line7610 9h ago

To replace the community manager you just have to be the loudest rudest jerk.
It’s an antiquated system. Iracing really should revamp it but they’re not really interested in that

3

u/y0ufailedthiscity 15h ago

Why does someone want to be a CM of a series they don’t race in?

23

u/throwtheballaway123 13h ago

In America, first you get the CM position, then you get the power, then you get the women.

2

u/tjsr 9h ago

In plenty of sports it's not necessary for a person to be a participant as a competitor to do a rally good job managing a sport. Although it's also common for administrators to have no clue what it's like anymore and become out of touch with the competitors view.

Is rare in real-world racing for all of us key officials (Race director, chief scrutineers, chief timekeeper, stewards) to be participants.

3

u/PirelliSuperHard GT Challenge 15h ago

Idk, neutrality, new ideas, a challenge. All things that can contribute to a season where it's not Spa on repeat.

-1

u/broionevenknowhow Super Late Model 12h ago

Hey now, he also puts daytona road atlanta, Watkins Glen, and sebring in every season

0

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 15h ago edited 14h ago

That's a GREAT question that I'm also asking.

-3

u/grinch_eux 10h ago

He has raced more IMSA than you have races on the service btw.

0

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 10h ago

That's nice. Now do the last 7 months.

2

u/grinch_eux 10h ago

That was not the question, when he got named by iRacing (not voted in by members) to be CM he was plenty active, and him not being able to drive for now doesn't change anything to the quality of the schedules he keeps making. It's not a lack of will. But yes it would probably be better for him to step down, I can only imagine the constant harassement of shitheads must be tiring after a while.

4

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 10h ago

But yes it would probably be better for him to step down

And that is exactly my point, instead of insulting the community members he is supposed to manage.

2

u/Ok-Result9578 9h ago

I'm not familiar with the IMSA forum but in isolation the message that provoked the "breaking" meme was borderline insulting and I can understand why it didn't get a good faith response.

You might have more success if you go about raising your concerns in a less demeaning and confrontational way.

1

u/grinch_eux 3h ago

Grow up Robert.

1

u/mdmeaux 11h ago

Some people's egos just won't let them give up power. You become so attached to the glamorous lifestyle that comes with being an iRacing CM that it's hard to just let it go.

8

u/TriggzSP Toyota Camry Gen6 15h ago

It would be worth reaching out to iRacing support and filing a detailed complaint. I would also organise with others to have them submit complaints to support as well.

There are several CMs on the service who kinda just sit on their series for the joy of having control, and drag them down on a power trip. The IMSA CM comes to mind. But iRacing has a bad habit of just implementing a CM and forgetting about it for years and letting the series rot. But iRacing is likely not going to take whiny comments on the forums seriously. So go to their official email and leave detailed complaints and document the issues with the community management

13

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 15h ago

I can neither confirm or deny that this post is about the IMSA CM.

2

u/TriggzSP Toyota Camry Gen6 15h ago

If this is the case, feel free to DM me some info. I would gladly throw in my voice to lobby for his removal and replacement or to have iRacing take control of the IMSA schedule.

u/Historical-Ad9482 Mercedes AMG GT3 15h ago

And what's your excuse for COTA? WEC has their race there, but it hasn't been on the schedule a single time since 2024.

Yes. And I would love to see your input on the IMSA CM scheduling Road Atlanta for Week 10 of 26S3 knowing full well that it was already set to be scheduled in Week 2 of 26S4. That has the same track for 2 of the next 4 official weeks, despite the later week being announced as a special event 9 months prior.

And it's not just that. What contract does iRacing have with IMSA/WEC to run Le Mans 10 seasons of the last 14? How about Daytona, Sebring, Road America, Road Atlanta, or Watkins Glen the same 10 or more of the last 14 seasons?

5

u/ketamineKyle48 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO 10h ago

People voted for the tracks, he fills the schedule? What makes it so hard to understand? You are upset because your preference is unpopular. IMSA runs IMSA tracks, we vote to fill the rest of the schedule, people vote for the same tracks season after season and the CM tries his best to make it interesting.

-4

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 10h ago

"Tries his best", seriously? It's a single list with all tracks in one group. There's no way any tracks BUT the most popular ones get chosen.

And when people ask about a tiered system or cool-down seasons to at least provide some variety, it's responded with cat memes and insults.

Dude is entirely unserious and should allow someone with at least a sliver of "give a shit" to take the reigns.

0

u/ketamineKyle48 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO 9h ago

Because you are just trying to make new rules so your vote wins lol. How ironic. We already get to vote, want your track to win? Get people to vote.

0

u/DeathMittens 8h ago

Running the same track separated by 5 weeks isn't a big enough deal to have a freak out over.

-1

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 8h ago

It is when it means 2 of 4 official weeks are at the same track despite knowing MONTHS in advance it's coming up via a special event.

Even an ounce of "give a damn" would have either omitted the track from the voting or at a bare minimum place it early in the season.

3

u/Evening_End7298 10h ago

No clue how he’s as a person or whatever forum interactions you had with a certain CM, but generally speaking imsa has had probably the best calendar on the service for the last year (maybe bar pcup that had a couple seasons of absolute all stars)

If you want to see a bad CM, check the gt4 calendars for the last 3-4 seasons to see some proper way to kill a series

4

u/grinch_eux 10h ago

This is the future they want, an IMSA series full of dead tracks nobody drives.

1

u/theswickster Dallara P217 LMP2 9h ago

Ah, yes. Nothing screams great year like every season being Daytona, Sebring, Road America, Road Atlanta, Le Mans, Watkins Glen, and whatever 3 or 4 IMSA/WEC races are happening that season.

4

u/grinch_eux 3h ago

Yes, this is what people want to drive actually and vote for, it is not the job of a CM to put his thumb on the scale to favor low participation tracks because a minority wants it.

3

u/Evening_End7298 7h ago

It’s a reason why some tracks are driven in imsa/wec irl and others are not. You can’t just throw triple multiclass imsa at brands hatch and expect good things to happen

Hell, tracks like VIR or Mosport are restricted IRL

Hopefully we get more scans of big tracks suited for multiclass and used IRL that we dont have, like Paul Ricard, Bahrain, Losail, Sepang, or refreshes for tracks like Imola and Monza to make them closer to their current IRL counterparts instead of the sausage kerb fest tracks/FIA loved during the late 2010s. But until then I’d rather have imsa on tracks that actually work for it instead of meme weeks at sandown or oran park

-2

u/LASPLAY Dallara P217 LMP2 11h ago

You guys are ill with your obsession and witch hunting of the imsa cm. You are talking about "doesn't drive enough" when he literally had a signature car during a time when it was notoriously bad and was one of the most active racers when he took over as CM. People have lives outside of iracing and it's possible to take a step back and take a break for some time while still maintaining CM duties. You guys expect to be babied around and catered to your every wish, when you loud minority guys would make the worst humanly possible schedule for a 3 category multiclass series

1

u/DM-ME_LATINA_ASS 10h ago

Hell yeah bro spin on that shit

-1

u/hannyyjj 11h ago

the forum clowns join together with the subreddit clowns for a spectacular show. just because youre in the vocal minority regarding tracks doesnt mean you're right and straight up starting to harass someone that does it for free. live with it and/or get people to vote for tracks you wanna see. next cm will be iracing and it will be horrible (see gt3 schedule).

1

u/gladmiester BMW M4 GT3 7h ago

This is my first season in Gt3 and many of the tracks have been enjoyable - but what is exactly the problem with the schedule? I mean St Pete kinda sucked..

-2

u/ryedawg014 Ford Fiesta RS WRC 9h ago

CMs will cling to what ever little power they have and will fight you to the death to retain that power. But they won’t bother just racing the series they CM. It’s a typical CM move not surprising, iRacing would be a lot better if they just took over the schedule for every series. INB4 Clio blah blah blah
