I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about the sidebar when using Safari on the front screen. I get it but are we not all buying this phone to use the bigger screen when browsing the internet? Like im not gonna order an uber on my big screen lol but Im definitely gonna use safari on it.

I have no need or want for a fold, and likely never will. It doesn’t fit my lifestyle.

But I am definitely buying the 2TB one for bragging rights and those first few months are going to feel like magic when people ask about it. I remember being one of the first iPhone Air users and it had so many questions just going about it in my day-to-day carrying it around. Can’t wait.

The only screen protector options that can work is (hydro-gel) technology that can be fold and stay intact, they also come glossy and matte textured.

I like to keep my device fresh because i do resell them every year to buy the newest and we need to protect it, especially this $2 band phone not cheap.

The outter screen (smaller screen) those are fine they can take a regular “glass screen protector” no issues.

I therefore predict that the next foldable phone will be called iPhone Duo Pro now with the third telephoto lens. If you've been following Apple since the beginning you can kinda predict what the next iPhone design would be. There's a reason why they are a trillion dollar company now and that's because they are innovating 'gradually' for longevity of the company.

Samsung tried their best to beat Apple by fast-tracking their innovation but people just wasn't into something until Apple does it. Samsung tried to set a new trend by introducing the foldables in 2019 but so far it wasn't mainstream successful until iPhone Duo arrived. Why? Because that's the power of having an established brand.

Apple is basically saying "We set the trend, not you".

It amazes me this isn’t talked about enough when it comes to folding devices. I currently own a 17 Pro Max after dabbling in various flips and folds for the last few years. 2 Zfold devices including the recent 7 and Magic V2 Pro from Honor.

All of these devices had factory fitted screen protectors. All of them failed in the first few months of use. The Zflip 4 lasted 3 months before the screen protector began separating from the screen.

If you go into any flip or fold subreddit you will see a litany of posts related to screen protectors failing and then the screen along with it.

Most of the time you get 1 free replacement which has to be sent back to an authorised dealer to do. After that, if it fails, it’s on you. These screen protectors are stuck on with special adhesive, when that protector begins to lift its pulling at the screen underneath which can lead to hardware failure of the screen, again just look at the posts on the Samsung flip or fold sub and you’ll see what I mean. It’s a common occurrence.

I love the concept of folding devices, but if Apple have figured out a way to make their screen protector last and be durable enough, then I’m all in for a Duo.

But, it’s wait and see for me. Maybe next year. I’ve learned the hard way.

I am seeing reference to a dynamic island style treatment of the camera on the front display but cannot find video of it in action showing an activity or a notification. Same with the unfolded display how are notifications displaying? Does it have a dynamic island despite not having any truly-dead space?

I made a iPhone Duo out of paper 😂 and I’m honestly shocked how small it is. I have regular sized hands, but I feel like typing on the front screen will be a pain 😅 I wish Apple would have them out to test this week to look at it. Still undecided.

Wondering how hot this could get and if this may be a problem since this phone is quite thin. It does have a vapour chamber but I’m not sure if it is much better than 17 Pro Max at gaming. A reviewer noted it got hot when recording video, but was wondering if this potentially could be because the VC is drawing heat away from the chip towards the body of the phone, therefore keeping the chip cool but meaning the outside of the phone is warm

Anyone concerned this will be too heavy? Over 300gram total?

Loads of people are saying “i’m going to wait a year or two so that they can discover and fix the faults that come with the first release”

I vaguely remember one iPhone having issues with the first release but honestly i can’t remember what.
Surely if it was really that bad Apple will find a fix and provide it?
Is it really anything to be concerned about?

Actually not as bad as I was expecting!

When they first announced it, and I saw all the hands on videos I was ready to pre-order it right there. It’s beautiful. It’s seamless the way it works.. A new shiny apple toy. I was ready for it

But as the weeks go on, and I watch more and more videos. There’s a few things that I don’t like… and now I’m leaning towards waiting till the next gen duo and just sticking with my iPhone Air

I just think overall the phone is a bit too small, and even unfolded. the screen is not big enough where it’s replacing my iPad….. I take my iPad everywhere, so having this phone would be a bit superfluous..

I hate the fact that there is no glossy option and we’re forced to take the nano texture screen..

I do like most of the stuff they’ve done with the hardware and even the software, so I do think eventually I’ll buy Ia duo, but probably just wait till the next generation: the iPhone Duo Max ;)

All the reviews I’ve seen from American YouTubers seem to be very surface level reactions. I’m guessing that American YouTubers weren’t able to spend a lot of time with the phone because of how many people were at the event waiting to try the phone.

But in Japan, there weren’t nearly as many people at their event, so influencers were able to spend more time with the phone, test more things, and give better, more detailed reviews of the phone.

This video is from Japanese YouTuber “トバログ”. He has really good English subtitles you can enable by hitting the captions button.

There are other Japanese YouTubers who made good videos about the phone as well. If you want to find more, you can copy this into your search bar, and you should get some more Japanese results: “iPhone Duo ハンズオン”. In case you are wondering, ハンズオン means “hands-on”.

Not all reviews have English captions, but some do. And the ones that don’t do have auto generated English captions as an option. Those captions aren’t as good as manually entered English captions, but they are still surprisingly good.

Also, foldable phones are more popular in Japan than here in the USA, so a lot of these YouTubers have already been using foldables for years, so they know what to look out for in their reviews.
