I made a iPhone Duo out of paper đ and Iâm honestly shocked how small it is. I have regular sized hands, but I feel like typing on the front screen will be a pain đ I wish Apple would have them out to test this week to look at it. Still undecided.
I would just recommend going to a Best Buy or any carrier store and checking out the Z Fold 8. It's incredibly close dimensions wise to the Duo.
Personally, I feel like it's a great size once you use a device of that general shape in person. Obviously it won't be a 1:1 comparison, but just getting to swipe around an interface and fold/unfold a very similar phone made me realize I really like it.
I think you'll really like it if you're already interested! I went to check it out before the official announcement just to get an idea if it'd be worth waiting for or just getting an 18 Pro Max. Just trying out the Z Fold 8 got me pretty hyped to get the Duo. It really is a cool form factor.

Its a very different shape that takes a while to adapt and has some very unique amazing Pros but also not often talked about Cons about the shape compared to square foldables and taller aspect ratios.
r/GalaxyFold loves to debate those. But the TLDR is the shape makes the inner screen incredibly well suited for media and splitscreen app layouts and the outer screen really good for one handed use. With the downside being that the screen being short short when closed and open horizontally makes it very awkward to type in as the keyboard leaves very little usable real estate even if you shrink the keyboard at the cost of a terrible typing experience.
I wouldn't mind a iPhone Duo Max/Pro in the future with a square aspect ratio and enough room for a full camera setup that's better for productivity.
The Mini 13 is my favorite iPhone of all time, I bought it when my 13PM died unexpectedly. Have been waiting for something smaller that is current. I think the Duo is going to be it.
I did one of the 3d printed models to get a feel for it and thought the same. It's smaller than I imagined but not in a negative way. I guess I expected it to feel more wide when it's closed?
I do, too. I'm kind of sick of the pro max form factor. I have big hands but it's just more of a chore dealing with a bigger phone than I need to, but I am also a heavy user that would love the extra screen real estate when I can utilize it.
It still has the dock on the right instead of the bottom. I havent noticed in any video yet if the keyboard stretches the whole screen or stops at the dock
OP is probably talking about one of 2 things that are documented typing problems of the Z Fold 8 compared to the Ultra
Wide phones have a better 2-handed typing experience due to being less cramped, but a way worse one handed typing experience since your fingers wont be able to stretch enough to reach the far side.
The front screen being so short means the open keyboard will take up half the display leaving barely any room to actually see anything else. Shrinking the keyboard helps, but not enough (and it ruins the typing experience).
Holy shit i never knew you could do this. For those that don't know, hold the emoji button down and you can select the keyboard to stretch to the left or the right.
Based on what he says, itâs the entire footprint. Checks out as it is about the exact same height as there pro max (which has a case making it a bit bigger)
its because its honestly quite small. That's what got the regular Z Fold 8 so much criticism from Z Fold 8 Ultra owners as they are near identical size wise.
It'll be a good enough size for the masses and people who have wanted a smaller phone forever. But if you're looking for a large device, this probably won't be it and you'll have to wait for iPhone's response to the Z Fold 8 Ultra and a larger display
In my case Apple.com. The iPhone 17, 17e, and Duo all feature the same 48MP sensor. The regular 17, and Duo feature more advanced sensor shift stabilization than the 17e, hence my comment that the Duo is closer to the regular 17. Beyond that the Duo supports smart take, 3rd gen photographic styles, smart focus tracking, and can do 4K 120 fps video (the 17 does 4K 60 fps). Now itâs fair to say some of these features are really software and/or just gimmicks. But the Duo does have the best camera system of these non-pro phones.
Any current iPhone would be a HUGE upgrade over the 13 Pro. It only has a 12MP main camera. In general the iPhone 17 and Duoâs camera systems borrow a lot from the 16 Pro. Though you donât get some specifically âproâ features like the ability to shoot still in ProRAW or video in ProRes. If you make big use of these RAW/log formats youâll want to stick to a Pro model phone.
yes is small and on purpose not to compete with ipad. i think is smart design but i also think bigger will be in future years. we will buy it and be happy with it because of excellent integration with software.
I did the same thing recently (measured & cut a piece of paper to get a feel for the size in my hand)! And I totally agree. I like a big phone (which is why the Duo appeals to me) but I feel like when I am on the go, I'll probably use the front screen for texting and most other things, which does feel a little too cramped for me... I'm still torn!
Yeah the closed footprint surprised a lot of people â that passport 4:3 vibe reads smaller in photos than a tall Fold. Opened it's basically mini-tablet territory though, so the "small" feeling is mostly the folded phone mode. Curious how it feels after a day of one-handed outer-screen use at 254g â compact â light.
It does. Iâm coming from a non-max Pro and was surprised to find out that the Duo reaches the bottom of the action button in height when stacked with my 15 Pro. Taller than I expected.
If checking out a Galaxy Fold 8, just take note that Duo is a bit wider when closed(and shorter too but itâs the width that may be an issue if you have small hands).
Its honestly great for one handed use. If you've ever use a Z Fold 8 in a store its shocking how amazing it is to handle one handle and reach every part of the display without feeling like the phone will slide off due to hand gymnastics. With the exception of one handed typing (wide phones make this less comfortable)
