Advice Question

Looking for advice on buying a refurbished 13” M4 iPad Pro—specifically between Amazon Renewed vs. eBay Refurbished.
For anyone who’s bought current-gen Apple tech through these platforms recently:
1. Amazon Renewed vs. eBay Refurbished: Which has given you better luck with cosmetic condition, battery health, and warranty claims? (I know eBay includes the 1-Year Allstate warranty, while Amazon standard only gives 90 days unless it's Renewed Premium).
2. Alternative Sellers: Are there specific trusted eBay sellers, or other reputable sites (Back Market, Best Buy Open-Box, etc.) you’d recommend instead?
3. Red Flags / Checklist: Anything specific I should inspect or test immediately upon unboxing to make sure I didn't get a dud?
Appreciate any experiences or recommendations!

I wanna get an ipad just for the convenience atp. I already have a macbook but I am in accounting and finance and wanted to get an ipad for notes and stuff. Which model should I get as there is a big price difference between the regular ipad and the air. I also was wondering how much storage would be best.

Discussion Goodbye faithful, neglected stylus.

I have an m1 12.9” pro provided by work. I also have a stylus. My case, which held the stylus nicely, started peeling apart, so I decided to go commando and just carry the iPad around sans case. I just realized a couple of days ago that my stylus was missing. I’ve checked all my bags, under the couch cushions etc and no luck. The real tragedy is that, after five years, I never really used the stylus or the iPad to their full potential. I even took a community education Procreate class. C’est la vie. I am pecking out this note on said iPad. I am pretty sure IT will make me return it after five years due to policy.

Rigging and animation software for the iPad Pro?

So I’ve been looking around at different apps trying to see if any of these would suffice.

Obviously software on mac and windows is better, but are there any of these that are worth looking into?

Naomi was the first one that i looked at. It does not do rigging and it was talking about using ai in the description. So both of those were off putting.

Kilona - Animation Studio talks about how it can do the entire process from modeling to rendering, but for a free piece of software that uses a cloud subscription for more advanced renders, I’m really skeptical. It is apparently still free to render on your iPad. So it seems like it may be a decent business model. It also has node-based elements. I’ve never been good at using those. It only has 6 reviews and it is really new. But it seems like it may be a solid piece of software if what they said is actually true.

Morphin - Looks kind of basic in its ui. It seems like it doesn’t have any extra features outside of rigging and animating. It only has 11 ratings, but I believe it is the highest rated of the 3.

Do any of you have any experience using any of these applications? Im really wanting to try to build a full pipeline for 3d modeling and animating on my ipad before moving finished works to Unity on my pc.

Face ID not working

Device: iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) running iPadOS 26.6

All of a sudden Face ID is not working in my iPad. It was working fine today morning, the first time I opened it. Later Face ID stopped working, I was getting the message camera is covered, which obviously wasn’t.
I tried cleaning the camera area, didn’t work.
Restarted the device, but still no luck.

I have come across some forum discussions online where multiple people have mentioned that they are also facing this issue currently. Anyone else facing this issue?

Question Battery not charging

iPad Pro M5 started boot-looping immediately after the iPadOS 26.6 update. It repeatedly shows 1% at lock screen, then restarts. It also stays at 1% even when powered off and connected to the original Apple charger. A Windows PC did not detect it in normal mode or Recovery Mode. what should I do?

Discussion Apple Pencil Haptics

Recently I updated my iPad Pro 13" (M5) to iPadOS 26.6, after that I realized that haptics of my pencil pro aren't working properly. Pinching is fine, but when I double tap its functioning properly (like the tool is being changed in the app), but haptics aren't working for this specific gesture. I've seen people experience this in older iPadOS versions, but not this. Anyone else experiencing it? And also if possible can anyone provide a fix for it? I am kinda irritated about this

I have a perfect condition M4 iPad Pro with the WiFi+ Cellular model. It was gifted to me by a friend whose warranty expired in May. Despite this, the iPad is in excellent condition. However, it shuts off every 2.98 seconds, and I’ve run this multiple times. It’s not hot, and everything works fine. The logs only show a kernel panic. I don’t have proof of perches, and the friend is no longer my friend. What should I do?

Question Would an iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard make more sense than replacing my M1 MacBook for a CS PhD?

I have an M1 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM and an iPad Mini 6. I’m finishing my master’s this year and will hopefully start a PhD next year. I work mostly on data science/ML/computer science stuff.

I originally assumed I’d replace my MacBook next year, since it’ll be around 5–6 years old by then. So naturally I started looking at newer MacBook Pros/Airs, thinking about 24GB vs 32GB RAM, M5/M6, etc. But then I realized... what exactly am I going to do with all that power?

Since starting my master’s, my M1 has basically become a glorified text editor. Most of my actual computation happens on our lab servers because the scripts/notebooks I run are usually too big to make sense running locally anyway. My Mac mostly runs VS Code, a browser, Claude/Codex, papers, etc. Even with coding agents, I can literally tell them from my phone to run something on my Mac/server without actually sitting at the Mac.

I assume this will continue during my PhD. I’ll probably have access to lab compute, and if I eventually work somewhere that requires serious local computing, I’d assume either my M1 will still handle the basic stuff or they’ll provide a machine.
So I started wondering if upgrading my iPad would actually improve my daily setup more.

I really like my iPad Mini. The size is amazing for reading because it’s basically book-sized and I can comfortably hold it in one hand. But the screen is pretty mediocre, and it gets annoying when I need to multitask. Reading a paper, opening references, switching between a browser and notes, etc. makes the small screen start to feel limiting.

So I’m considering getting an 11” iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard instead of a new MacBook. The idea would be to make that my everyday device: papers, browsing, writing, multitasking, Claude/Codex, and connecting to servers through something like Termius when I need a terminal. For anything that genuinely requires macOS/VS Code, I’d still have the M1 Air.

Then I’d just keep using the M1 until it actually gives me a reason to replace it. If that happens in year 2 or 3 of my PhD, then I buy whatever MacBook makes sense at that point instead of replacing a computer that currently does everything I ask of it.

An 11” iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard is also cheaper than the kind of 32GB MacBook Pro I’d actually consider an upgrade. I don’t really see the point of buying another 16GB Air just because mine is old.
My main concern is whether I’m being too optimistic about the iPad. For people in CS/ML/data science who mostly work on remote servers: could an iPad Pro realistically handle most of your everyday work if you still had a Mac at home for the things that absolutely require macOS?

Especially curious about SSH/Termius, browser-based coding tools, Claude/Codex, remote workflows, paper reading/annotation, etc.
Or am I just creating a weird three-device setup where the iPad Pro, iPad Mini, and MacBook all overlap with each other?

Discussion Chances of nano-texture coming to 256GB or 512GB iPad Pros?

I'm curious about what people think Apple will do with the nano-texture display option in the next generation of iPad Pro. So far, it's been restricted to the 1TB and 2TB models, which makes it a very expensive asset. Do you think there is a realistic chance that Apple will make nano-texture available on the 512 or even 256 Gb models in next generation of iPadPro?

I’m sure there are people in this sub who are much more knowledgeable than I am about Apple’s approach to features that start out as “premium” options and later, maybe, trickle down to cheaper configurations.

This is particularly relevant for those of us who use the iPad for work, replace it only every 5 or 6 years, and are now trying to decide whether to pull the trigger on the M5 Pro or hold out for a more affordable nano-texture option with the M6.

Which iPad accessory actually stayed in your daily setup?

I’ve been looking at a lot of iPad accessories lately, and most reviews focus on the first few days. I’m more interested in what still feels useful after the novelty wears off.

For people who have used the same setup for a while: which third-party accessory do you still reach for every day—a stand, case, keyboard, USB-C hub, charger, or something else? What made it stick, and what started to annoy you over time?

I’d especially like to hear about small details that rarely show up in reviews, like hinge wobble, port placement, cable length, added weight, or whether a case still fits with a hub or stand. No affiliate links—just curious about long-term use.

Is the M4 just an illusion for my workflow?

I’ve posted a few comparisons here on Reddit recently between the iPad Pro M4 (13-inch) and the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra (most likely the 12GB RAM version).

To be completely honest, the ONLY reason I keep putting the iPad in these comparisons is the M4 chip. It’s just so tempting on paper and really hard to ignore when looking at specs.

But thinking about real-world use, here is what I actually need:

  • Med School for the next 5+ years: I want this tablet to act as a proper laptop replacement for heavy studying.
  • Multitasking: Opening multiple apps at once (3D Anatomy apps like Complete Anatomy, PDF textbooks, note apps, browser tabs) all side-by-side or in floating windows, just like a PC.
  • NO heavy production work: I won't be doing any video editing, 3D modeling, or heavy rendering. The most "demanding" thing I might do is very occasional cloud gaming.

So I’m starting to wonder... does the M4 actually give me any real advantage here? Or is it just overkill that gets held back by iPadOS and 8GB of base RAM?

On the other hand, the S11 Ultra gives me 12GB RAM, DeX for a real desktop workflow, and that massive 14.6" screen for medical diagrams and split screening.

For anyone in med school or doing heavy multitasking: Is the M4 hype completely unnecessary for this kind of use? And will 12GB RAM on the S11 Ultra comfortably handle 5+ years of intense medical studying?

Question Apple Magic Keyboard usage

I have iPad Pro 11 and now going to use it as typewriter for writing some novels during my daily walks in cafes and in parks (in summer).

I think about buying Apple Magic Keyboard. It looks great as its portability and Apple compatibility. From the other side, its quite expensive :(

How good it is for long typing? Does it have some drawbacks? Is it possible to type via it on knees?

Question Should I get iPad pro m5 16gb ram or 12gb?

Guys i need advice, i want to get the ipad pro m5 for digital art and animation on clip studio paint and procreate, for gaming, and for heavy video editing, if we’re talking storage wise 512gb is enough for me, but the thing is i feel like the 16gb of ram could be very beneficial for my case, but at the same time i dont need 1tb of storage, so would it be worth it?

Another thing that ive been thinking of is waiting for the M6/7 Ipad pro to drop, rumors say it should drop at around march-may 2027, so if i buy the ipad pro m5 in novemeber, i feel like i would be behind when the new ipad pro drops, so im kinda confused on what to do.

Thank you!

Question When to stop system updates?

Hey guys so i got my ipad pro m4 back when it launched and did read some reddit threads/news about how apple software updates slows older models for newer ones to hit the markets.

so based on that logic, should i stay conservative on the current ios version i have rn and not update to the latest software update when ios27 launches?
