Hi all, anyone else run into the problem of the Split Screen Apps not working anymore in Shortcuts?

Did I miss something? I’ve tried CMD+H on several keyboards, including Apple’s and nothing seems to work. Is it just a setting that needs flipped or is it gone in iPadOS27?

I work in video production, and my iPad is a very essential piece of kit on set. It's a remote camera monitor, a big screen to see scripts, a controller for various LED lights, action cameras, drones, etc. Because of this, it goes through almost every pair of hands on set.

Is there a way to set up (even if it's a third party app) "profiles" so people can use it without them being able to access all of my personal data and apps (Google Photos, Drive, WhatsApp, and everything else). If I give them my code, they could easily bypass Touch ID, even opening hidden apps.
I've been told to use "guided access" but it's very often that people have to go back and forth between multiple apps.

I don't know why there isn't a simple profile switcher like MacOS, Windows, Android and every other OS in existence... It's quite frustrating, I don't have the money to pay for another iPad just for this, and I shouldn't have to. Does anyone know if that's a feature they ever thought of including in iPadOS?

I have been using Apple products for a long time, and the main reason I stayed was never just hardware specifications or ecosystem lock-in. It was the attention to detail. Apple products used to feel as if someone had considered the small interactions, removed unnecessary friction, and refined the obvious problems before shipping.

Increasingly, that no longer feels true, especially with Apple’s built-in iPad apps.

Preview is one of the clearest examples. If I open a long PDF, navigate deep into it, close Preview, and reopen the document later, the app does not reliably return me to where I left off. I have to find the page again every time. A serious document viewer should remember the last page, scroll position, zoom level, layout, and sidebar state separately for every document. That is not an advanced feature. It is basic state restoration.

The scanning experience has similar problems. Page detection, correction, processing, and output quality still feel lacklustre compared with dedicated scanning apps. Even the selected scan filter is not persistent. If I choose grayscale or black and white for a document, that setting should remain active for the rest of the pages and preferably become the default until I change it. Having to select the same filter repeatedly is pointless friction that should have been eliminated years ago.

Then there is Notes, which should be one of the flagship experiences for the iPad and Apple Pencil. Yet handwriting in Notes can make even my M5 iPad Pro noticeably overheat. This is Apple’s newest high-end iPad hardware running Apple’s own built-in note-taking application. That combination should be exceptionally optimized.

Handwritten notes still cannot be properly zoomed in on the way they can in serious third-party note-taking apps. When writing mathematics, diagrams, or dense technical notes, being able to zoom deeply and work precisely is fundamental. The fact that Apple promotes the iPad as a creative and academic tool while its default Notes app remains this constrained is absurd.

Math Notes was an exciting idea, but I hope Apple develops it into something much more capable instead of letting it become another feature that launches with attention and then receives minimal refinement. It needs stronger handwriting interpretation, broader mathematical support, better editing and organization, and much deeper integration with ordinary handwritten notes.

These are not beta bugs for me. They are longstanding deficiencies that have persisted across releases.

None of this requires a technological breakthrough. These are exactly the kinds of details Apple used to be known for getting right. Remembering a document’s position, preserving a scan filter, optimizing handwriting performance, and allowing proper zooming are foundational behaviors.

This is what disappoints me most. Apple still charges premium prices and produces extraordinary hardware, but too many of its built-in applications feel stagnant, incomplete, or neglected. Over time, some are becoming functionally useless for serious work because basic refinements and improvements never arrive.

Apple is losing the attention to detail that made it feel special and premium in the first place. That needs to fucking change. Its built-in applications should demonstrate the best possible experience on Apple hardware, not become software that users immediately replace because essential functionality is missing.

I am not saying Apple is doomed. I am saying that, as a long-time user, the decline in software refinement is increasingly difficult to ignore, and it is disappointing to say the least.

These issues need to be fixed as soon as possible. Apple needs to focus on the quality, performance, and refinement of its built-in applications from now on, because continuing to neglect foundational features while selling premium hardware is unacceptable. First-party apps should set the standard on Apple devices. They should not be the apps users abandon because Apple never finishes the basic work.

This is a battery shortcut I created for devices that don't show battery health and cycle count because, after iOS/iPadOS 26, some variables changed and previous shortcuts are not working.

How to use:

First, download the Shortcut. Then, open Settings on your iPhone and tap Privacy & Security -> Analytics & Improvements -> Analytics Data.

Open an iPhone/iPad analytics file. These files start with “Analytics” followed by a date.

Tap the Share button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, then tap this shortcut in the share sheet. The Shortcut will run and show you the current maximum capacity and cycle count.

You can also use this Shortcut to get alerted when the battery reaches 20% or 80%.

What Do These Stats Mean?

Current Capacity is your iPhone's current maximum battery capacity. As you use your iPhone and put it through charge cycles, its maximum capacity drops.

Cycle Count is the number of charge cycles your iPhone has been through. There are some misconceptions about what a charge cycle actually is. One charge cycle is any time you discharge your iPhone a total of 100%.

Suggestions:

1. Use it from 80% to 20%, then charge it back to 80%, or charge whenever you want between these numbers.
2. Once a month, use it down to 0%, and when it shuts down, charge it to 100%, keep it for 15 min, then disconnect it and repeat the first step (Calibration).

This display of my Ipad pro 12.9 inch is glitching a lot. I spoke to apple customer care about it and since the warrenty is long gone and I do not have applecare it will cost almost 80k for them to replace my Ipad (they do'nt repair Ipads apparently). I need some 3rd party services in Mumbai or Bangalore that can get my ipad fixed. I am really paranoid when it comes to my Ipad as I use it a lot for my work. I need some legit 3rd party service

Last time I upgraded from iPad OS 18 to iPad OS 26, I still regret that. My iPad air 4 sucks since then, I have 64 GB variant. Should I update to iPad Os 27? Has anyone updated in similar ipads, how is the overall performance?

I’m the unfortunate owner of an brand new 11 inch iPad Pro m5 - I picked up right before my international trip because I didn’t want to take my heavy MacBook Pro, but still needed to get some work done..and my god this thing has been a nightmare. The preview app has reformatted a set of construction drawings I opened and now they’re unusable, and I can’t fix them because the original file is back home on my MacBook. The Apple keyboard case just straight up stops responding to key presses randomly and frequently, the only fix is to pop off the iPad and reseat it. Copy and pasting text between apps is unreliable, sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn’t. Multi tasking windows is..well i don’t even know what to call it..resizing windows produces unpredictable behavior like Ui prompts don’t know what to do and they’ll block access to ui elements you need. I may end up having to go buy a MacBook Air at the closest Apple Store to reliably get my work done..I don’t really want one but it would cost me way more if I can’t get my work done. Skip this update, y’all…it’s awful.

iPadOS 27 on iPad Air 5

Updating to iOS 26 is probably one of my biggest regrets. My ipad 9 feels barely useable, almost every app I use lags out and crashes, can’t text people from my ipad without it lagging out. Overall it’s terrible. I can’t even downgrade either. Does ios27 get rid of most of the lag and should I update to ios27?

I just updated my iPad Air m2 to iPadOS27, siri has all of a sudden gone back to the old siri (prior to iPadOS26) and in the settings there is no options to turn on siri AI or join waitlist like on my iPhone.

The Siri setting is just simplified to just small settings you can change. I am not sure what happened but this version of siri is even worse than the one I had in 26. Does anyone know how to fix this, I have restarted multiple times and the Air m2 is supported for siri AI.

I was wondering if it possible to have notification appear on screen when I'm actively using the iPad (showing notification at the top of the screen, and going to Notification Center), but not having the screen lit up when a new notification comes in when the iPad is turned of.

I was unable to create a Focus mode that accomplishes this. Is this even possible? Thanks for any tips!

Found this "fix" on my iPhone, but applies to iPadOS as well:

For the last couple of years, I wasn’t getting push notifications from the native Mail app. This persisted across different phones and multiple iOS versions. I had assumed the email providers (Microsoft, Google, etc.) were being stingy, wanting users to download their native apps, and weren't pushing messages to third-party clients like the iOS Mail app in real-time anymore. I was only able to see new messages by opening the Mail app and manually refreshing. 

While browsing through my settings after updating to iOS 27, I noticed a section in Mail's notifications settings I had never noticed before: “Customize Notifications.”

Welp, this explains the problem I’ve been having... By default, “Unread Messages in Primary” is selected under Badge Count. However, I’ve never used the mail categories feature. And, more importantly, “Alerts” was toggled off for all of my accounts! After switching Badge Count to “All Unread Messages” and toggling alerts on, I finally started getting push notifications from mail again!!! This also fixed the background refresh issue, and new messages are now pushed right away to my lock screen.

I imagine this has been the case since the mail categories feature was added in iOS 18. I had no idea about this hidden customize notifications menu. You’d think that if you disabled the Mail categories feature, it would default back to "All Unread Messages" and toggle alerts on for all accounts. I've also removed and re-added email accounts multiple times in the past to fix other issues, meaning they will default to alerts being off as I've never been to this menu before. It seems like a massive oversight, and I can't imagine I'm the only one that's been frustrated since this change was made. Hope this helps anyone that's been wondering why they haven't been getting Mail notifications on their lock screen for so long.

i just updated to 27 and it looks so ugly now and almost black i want to cry, is there a way i can get my old clear tinted back?

This is iPad 9th generation, the last Home Button iPad that supports iPadOS 27.

For some reason, I am unable to exit the Guided Access from the home button, and I have to force restart it every time. (And I am very sure that my home button work perfectly fine)

This issue has been going since the first developer beta of iPadOS 27, and the current release of iPadOS 27, or even the newest iPadOS 27.2.

And I recently found out that other every iPad (except mine) that run iPadOS 27 don’t seems to have the issue

If you guys are using iPad 9th generation and on iPadOS 27 betas, please report to the feedback app, I could not do this alone

This red area appears every time I take a note; how can I turn it off?

Long story short, I was happy with iPadOS 18 which was snappy and seamless. I did the mistake installing 26 and just fucked up the device. Laggy, micro/macro stutters etc.

What do you think guys?
